Try to remember to check after you post! We were 400 pages off because there were 2 posts made at the same time! Total Group Pages: 33,364
I recommend House of Stairs by William Sleator. It has a bit of a sci-fi feel to it and is also a little suspenseful. I read it when I was around 12 years old and still think about it often.I also agree with Sarina's suggestion of Abarat it's one of my favorites and very weird. (There are two other books in this series as well!)
Nell wrote: "Suggested theme: Reading Around the WorldRead #_ books NOT set in the country where you live.
Each book set in a different country - no two books set in the same country.
I like this theme idea a lot, Nell! It ties in nicely with the Around the World challenge too!
I'm a little concerned that not everyone will have books on their tbr's that are set in 5 different countries.
I'd love to hear feedback from others participating in this challenge!
Last year I was a few books shy of blackout, so my goal this year is to actually complete it!21/25
2. Re-read a favorite
4. A book that your favorite fictional character would read
11. Poetry
22. A non-human narrator The Tale of Despereaux
Laura H wrote: "On another note, is it possible to have the 2021 Challenge posted that tracks our BOTM reads? Thanks so much!"
Hi Laura, I just got that challenge up and running for this year!
Anyone interested can find it here: Read Along Challenge 2021
Last year we read 1,282,482 pages together! This year I wanted to challenge ourselves a bit more, and our new goal is to read 1,500,000 pages in 2021!This year I'll be keeping an eye on our totals as well to make sure we're still on the right track.
I'd like to give a special shout out to Nell who helped us out so much these past years with this!!! If you, like Nell, notice that our totals are skewed, please don't hesitate to offer a correction.
Happy reading everyone!!
STANDARD POSTIf each one posts in a different way (cover vs. link, same line vs. different lines, bold vs. not bold, et.), it sometimes becomes harder for who is sum checking or managing the challenge to find the information.
This may look simple, but after hundreds of messages, believe me, a standard post helps! :-)
So, if you care to make life easier for your mods, checkers, volunteers, etc., you can use the following template with code for posting in this challenge. :-)
1. Add book COVER as instructed in message 1 above.
2. Copy the text between the lines - but NOT the lines (---------).
-----------------------------------------------------
January 31
XXX pages
<*b*>Total Group Pages: SUM HERE<*/b*>
-----------------------------------------------------
3. Paste it under the book cover.
4. Change the month, the day and XXX for your correct data.
5. Change "SUM HERE" for your addition result.
6. REMOVE the four asterisks (*)
The result should look like this (without the lines, of course):
-----------------------
January 1st
835 pages
Group total: 4,900 pages
Welcome to the 2021 Relay Race Reading Challenge!!!HOW IT WORKS
Post a comment (on the LAST COMMENT PAGE) with the following four things:
1) the COVER of a book you recently read (see below for instructions),
2) the date you completed reading that book,
3) the number of pages in the book you read, and
4) last but not least, sum of all pages read by the group.
ANYONE can post AS MANY TIMES as they want! This is a group effort, folks! You can enter books read for the bookclub AND those read outside of the group.
THE RULES / SOME TIPS
1. How to add a book cover
On the top right of the comment box, you will see a hyperlink "add book/author" (in English).
At the bottom of the window that appears, you'll see two radio buttons "link" and "cover" - please select "cover".
Type the name of the book in the search field and once you click "search", select the correct book. The code will look like the following without the *: [*bookcover:The Catcher in the Rye|5107]
2. How to decide your page count
If hardcopy, use the number of pages in the edition of the book that you read.
If electronic (kindle, nook, etc.), use the number of pages from the kindle edition.
If you listened to a book on tape, use the number of pages from the most popular edition on Goodreads (when you search a book, the most popular edition is the default).
No genre or page length restrictions, and can be book club group reads OR books you've read outside of the group.
3. Books per post
In general, books per post should be one book as you would be posting the book you most recently finished, but feel free to add more if you have finished multiple books recently!
This is a running tally, so please don't wait and post 20 books at once... wouldn't be much of a relay!
No need to post backdated books. Just start from the day you entered the relay =)
4. Make sure you are on the LAST comment page
As this is a running tally, make sure you are on the LAST COMMENT PAGE before commenting as you want to add your pages read to the last total.
Above the comment box, you'll see the hyperlinks for every comment page, will look like "<< previous 1 2 3 4 5 next >>" or something like this - make sure you're on the highest number. Goodreads only allows for 50 comments per page.
5. Please double check the math of your post total!!
F.A.Q's:
Do partially read books count?
No, you need to finish the book for it to count. If you DNF (do not finish) a book, it won't count.
LET'S RELAY!!!
