Hopefully I'll finish a couple more books before the end of the month!

I just want to clarify that the unique reads in any given month only applies to individuals, not the entire house. So if you read The Hobbit and someone else on your team reads The Hobbit you would both get the full points. If you reread The Hobbit again in the same month you would not be able to use the reread for points.

What is everyone's favorite book they have read for this years challenge so far?

I just finished it and I mostly agree with everything you've all been saying. There were certainly some sections of bad writing which really stood out and distracted from the story. I have to say I hate the title, it is just so uninspired! like Lea said above me, the ending was very open ended. Francis might not have survived, how are they going to convince the police they didn't just murder an entire family and burn down the house? The ending even points out all of these issues, and then doesn't resolve any of them. I would have liked it wrapped up a little more.

For all its problems I did like it. I actually really liked Noemi and thought she was a strong heroine. I think she was a nice contrast to the theme of men trying to overpower and control women found throughout the book. I'm a sucker for a gothic romance and almost went to school to be a mycologist because I am so fascinated by mushrooms, so I feel my reasons for liking this book are a little biased.

I am in favor of a minimum # of ratings policy. It is a rule in the BOTM nominations books must be reasonably well-read to fit the "Everyone Has Read This but Me" claim. As our group gets larger and larger we've had to make things more structured so everything runs smoothly. A vague statement like that needs to be changed to a clear rule.
