189072 I don't know anything about chess and still really liked this book! in fact i read it in 2 days because I just couldn't put it down.

The drug abuse was not something I was expecting going into this read, but I really like how it was done. It seemed very realistic because Beth was given tranquilizers before she could even know what addiction is and became dependent on them. I also thought it was very realistic how this turned into alcoholism later in her life. With alcohol being easier to get and socially more acceptable. I thought it was good to have these struggles right along side her fufilling her dreams in chess. It brought to mind that the celebrities we see might not be as put together as they appear and could be facing real struggles like the rest of us.

189072 The ComManda, some things like adding a link to a book work better on a computer. it is fine if your suggestion isn't linked. it will still be accepted as long as it fits all the criteria.

189072 STANDARD POST

If each one posts in a different way (cover vs. link, same line vs. different lines, bold vs. not bold, et.), it sometimes becomes harder for who is sum checking or managing the challenge to find the information.

This may look simple, but after hundreds of messages, believe me, a standard post helps! :-)

So, if you care to make life easier for your mods, checkers, volunteers, etc., you can use the following template with code for posting in this challenge. :-)

1. Add book COVER as instructed in message 1 above.

2. Copy the text between the lines - but NOT the lines (---------).

-----------------------------------------------------

January 31
XXX pages

<*b*>Total Group Pages: SUM HERE<*/b*>

-----------------------------------------------------

3. Paste it under the book cover.

4. Change the month, the day and XXX for your correct data.

5. Change "SUM HERE" for your addition result.

6. REMOVE the four asterisks (*)

The result should look like this (without the lines, of course):

-----------------------
A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin
January 1st
835 pages

Group total: 4,900 pages

189072 Welcome to the 2022 Relay Race Reading Challenge!!!

HOW IT WORKS

Post a comment (on the LAST COMMENT PAGE) with the following four things:

1) the COVER of a book you recently read (see below for instructions),
2) the date you completed reading that book,
3) the number of pages in the book you read, and
4) last but not least, sum of all pages read by the group.

ANYONE can post AS MANY TIMES as they want! This is a group effort, folks! You can enter books read for the bookclub AND those read outside of the group.

THE RULES / SOME TIPS

1. How to add a book cover

On the top right of the comment box, you will see a hyperlink "add book/author" (in English).
At the bottom of the window that appears, you'll see two radio buttons "link" and "cover" - please select "cover".
Type the name of the book in the search field and once you click "search", select the correct book. The code will look like the following without the *: [*bookcover:The Catcher in the Rye|5107]

2. How to decide your page count

If hardcopy, use the number of pages in the edition of the book that you read.
If electronic (kindle, nook, etc.), use the number of pages from the kindle edition.
If you listened to a book on tape, use the number of pages from the most popular edition on Goodreads (when you search a book, the most popular edition is the default).
No genre or page length restrictions, and can be book club group reads OR books you've read outside of the group.

3. Books per post

In general, books per post should be one book as you would be posting the book you most recently finished, but feel free to add more if you have finished multiple books recently!

This is a running tally, so please don't wait and post 20 books at once... wouldn't be much of a relay!
No need to post backdated books. Just start from the day you entered the relay =)

4. Make sure you are on the LAST comment page

As this is a running tally, make sure you are on the LAST COMMENT PAGE before commenting as you want to add your pages read to the last total.
Above the comment box, you'll see the hyperlinks for every comment page, will look like "<< previous 1 2 3 4 5 next >>" or something like this - make sure you're on the highest number. Goodreads only allows for 50 comments per page.

5. Please double check the math of your post total!!

F.A.Q's:

Do partially read books count?
No, you need to finish the book for it to count. If you DNF (do not finish) a book, it won't count.

LET'S RELAY!!!
