189072 Updated message 46 with my final points for October!

October is always such a busy month for me, I'm hoping I can read more the next two months!

189072 Happy Halloween! It is the last day of the October round Robin. The scores are:
Autumn 23.98 vs. Spring 23.06
Summer 25.20 vs. Winter 16.09
We still have the rest of the day to get in some extra points! remember you have 10 easy point getters that are great for last minute reads if you haven't used them up already.

Please have all your reads for the month submitted by the 1st of November. (any books posted after that will still count towards your houses overall score, just not the round robin scores) I will post the final October round robin scores on the 2nd.

189072 The botm picks have to be close to the same range as the most popular edition.

Hopefully I'll finish a couple more books before the end of the month!

I just want to clarify that the unique reads in any given month only applies to individuals, not the entire house. So if you read The Hobbit and someone else on your team reads The Hobbit you would both get the full points. If you reread The Hobbit again in the same month you would not be able to use the reread for points.

189072 Current round robin standings:
Autumn 20.02 vs Spring 17.42
Summer 17.50 vs. Winter 8.50

What is everyone's favorite book they have read for this years challenge so far?

189072 I just finished it and I mostly agree with everything you've all been saying. There were certainly some sections of bad writing which really stood out and distracted from the story. I have to say I hate the title, it is just so uninspired! like Lea said above me, the ending was very open ended. Francis might not have survived, how are they going to convince the police they didn't just murder an entire family and burn down the house? The ending even points out all of these issues, and then doesn't resolve any of them. I would have liked it wrapped up a little more.

For all its problems I did like it. I actually really liked Noemi and thought she was a strong heroine. I think she was a nice contrast to the theme of men trying to overpower and control women found throughout the book. I'm a sucker for a gothic romance and almost went to school to be a mycologist because I am so fascinated by mushrooms, so I feel my reasons for liking this book are a little biased.

189072 Can you believe we are already half way through the first month!?

As of now the scores are:
Autumn - 17.14
Spring - 15.25
Summer - 10.25
Winter - 6.47

I hope everyone is having fun and reading some great books!

I am in favor of a minimum # of ratings policy. It is a rule in the BOTM nominations books must be reasonably well-read to fit the "Everyone Has Read This but Me" claim. As our group gets larger and larger we've had to make things more structured so everything runs smoothly. A vague statement like that needs to be changed to a clear rule.
