185 Yay! I can move it to "solved" and shelve it for you if you like. :)
185 I think that IS a ray on the cover...just one with huge, scary teeth.
185 The Maude Reed Tale

"A girl living in England in the Middle Ages wants to become a wool merchant but is sent, instead, to a castle in Sussex to learn to be a lady."
185 Yay! There's also a sequel, Zoe Rising. :)
185 I had that thought too, Kris! I do hope we can solve at least one of your mystery book mysteries!
185 hahahahaha, just doing my part to keep used bookstores in business. ;)

I hope this is it! I read a lot of Jane Louise Curry's books around the same time I was reading Wylly Folk St John, so maybe...
185 Alright, let's try this one: The Bassumtyte Treasure

185 Beware! This House Is Haunted has a ghost named Beryl. You didn't say how long ago you read it, but this was first published in 1988.

"After Jessica and her family, including her new stepbrothers, move into a vacation home in Cornwall, Jessica discovers that Beryl, the ghost of a spoiled rotten little girl, is trying to scare her family away."
185 Me too! My BFF and I used to argue over the right way to pronounce "Wylly" (is it Wiley or Willie?)

Google books also hit on Time Tangle as having both a Priest's Hole and mention of Civil War, but that has a girl MC.
185 oh, wait, that's set in Georgia, not England. It does have a priest's hole and a tunnel, though.
185 Congrats on finding your book Ashley and good job Ash! Here are the GR links:

185 You're welcome! I'm glad to help. I love all those classic 80's books about teens in trouble. I even created a listopia http://www.goodreads.com/list/user_vo...

185 I think you're thinking of John Benton. Each book usually had a girl's name, all very lurid and dangerous behavior, sex and drugs and runaways, and at the last minute they would find God and be Saved. Classic stuff.
