185 You're welcome! Happy to help. :-)
185 Dreaming In Color? It was apparently also published under the title Daddy's Girl

Here is a user review that gives more detail than the GR summary: "This is the story of three women. Bobby is a battered and sexually abused wife. She decides that she and her six year old daughter, Penny, need to leave home because her husband has started hitting Penny. She drives to Connecticut and finds a job working for Eva. Bobby takes care of Eva's Aunt Alma, who had a stroke on her left side. Bobby and Penny grow to love Alma very quickly. Eva is a little different. She is a long time widow with a college age daughter. She is a writer. Eva has a hard time with Bobby because she remembers her friend Deborah who was also a battered wife. Will these women be able to get along and help each other?"
185 Yay!!! I love reuniting books and readers. Happy to help, and glad you found your book, Alannah!
185 What was it?
185 You're welcome! Happy to help.
185 Possibly A Wizard Named Nell - it's first in the Keepers series, about the Keepers of the Light.
185 Magisterium, maybe?
185 Not the colors you recall, but it's got a boy in a birdcage made of branches, so maybe? Merlin The Young Merlin Trilogy, Book Three by Jane Yolen
185 Excellent! May we consider this solved, then?
185 Here's a thread where someone was looking for a similar plot - it turned out the book they wanted was Anne Frank and Me, but if you're sure that's not it, maybe one of the other titles suggested in the thread will be what you're looking for: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
185 Possibly the Lucky Santangelo series by Jackie Collins? The first one is Chances, the second one is Lucky
185 A Will And A Way <--- GR link for Sue's suggestion
185 Excellent clue, Sue! I believe it is Absolute Zero: Being the Second Part of the Bagthorpe Saga

See mention of missing can labels in this review: https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-re...
185 Helen Hoke edited a bunch of scary stories anthologies for kids in the 70's and 80's - maybe one of them will look familiar?
185 Hmmm. Can you be more specific about when you read it? "Years and years ago" means different things to different people. If you can narrow it down to a range of years, it will help the searching process.
185 Glad you found it, Neeraj! I've moved this to solved.
