179584 To be honest, I started doing this with my copies of our chosen books after some time. I also write a letter when I send them to members in need, and encourage them to make the chain even longer... It's so cool if you see all the scribbled notes in a book and I think you even get more out of it, because you come to agree or disagree with the notes, or you get additional information.

I'd love to be a book fairy!

The only sad thing for me about it is that a whole new generation of children will get to know her as Belle, not Hermione! (Just kidding, it's just my sentiment towards the Potter movies, of course I'm glad when Emma is known among a new generation of children)

179584 This thread is so worth reading, be sure that I bump in reading here in the future sometimes.

I think everything is said and I won't comment for now.

179584 As I was lucky enough to watch the movie tonight already (yes, in Austria it premiered tonight - I was literally trembling because I was so anticipating the fact that I'd see Emma again:) ) I'm going to share no more than the following:
When the credits started to drop in (that is made in such a lovely way, but, I'm not giving too much away!;) ) there was applause in the auditorium! Not many movies have achieved that, have they?!

Now that is the best answer anybody can give!

May I quote you, whenever I get asked about it?

On a sidenote: A student colleague today said something about Emma giving a speech recently, and I just said: Couldn't be on March 8th, she was book ninja'ing there:) I know her too well...

Sorry for confusing the both of you. I'm glad the interview is coming asap. It'll be nice to hear Emma speaking again:)

Isn't it already published in Italian? It was in German, so I guess it has also been published in Italian.

And I'll credit you, of course I will!

One can always look up the "added", "reviewed" etc. categories for each individual book. The spike for My Life on the Road is around the time when OSS was founded, one can see the same effect for the other books, although not always as strong as with My Life on the Road.
That's why I recommend everyone to do that, to at least "add" the book to our "to-read" list, after Emma announced it. But as Ana said it already, the publishers have the final numbers. If one wants to really look into that, they would have to ask the publishers. (If Emma asks, I'm sure they would share them.)

It's interesting to see that the VF interview and Emma's book ninja'ing (she's recognised now when she's doing it, so people definitely have knowledge about the book club in one or the other way) had such an impact.

I think the Book Fairy thing is a good way to promote OSS, although I also do see the benefits of donating books to libraries, or hosting events around the books(but I do think that it's mostly members for the events, I still think they're important).

On a side note: When will the interview with Eve Ensler be published. It's quite a while ago.

Me either. Haven't seen such a good explanation ever... Let's dismantle the bs together!

179584 Hm, my interior woman probably likes the gender revolution. The gender as a spectrum instead of two opposing ideals. The fact that "woman" is a social construct, not something that is given.

Yes, I do have problems reading this book!

I think you're best equipped for Monday! It's not easy to be more mature than your mates (I'm 20, so I can definitely relate, although I had the maturity problem more in middle school). I'm sure he will change his behaviour sooner or later, you make sure of that.
And you're probably not alone, speaking out is not easy...

Double standards for sure, but I think it goes deeper. If we think about (making this really box-like), men are the oppressors and women the oppressed in our society. Now, if there are women who criticise men they are way more easily shoved into the man-hating area, because they threaten the status quo. But when men do the same to women, they only reinforce the status quo.

Maybe that's worth a thought.

And I do know that it is not that easy (that would be really horrible I think), but I think it's still worth a thought to use that simple model.

Best thing I haven't even told you yet: The day before March 8th, I wrote letters to my poiticians(the ones accountable for the whole of Austria, not just the provinces) about the Woman's Day, and that they should not forget that we still have not achieved gender equality! They must have arrived March 8th:)
