139735 I'm still figuring out my book so all good. I've been trying to justify a cozy mystery, but that's a solve versus a win/lose. I have Dungeon Crawler Carl, but that's a chonker. So I'm kinda thinking a fantasy, since there's either a conflict or winning someone's heart lol.

Richard, Fi, you both down for this special event?
May 06, 2025 01:42PM

139735 Eunice!! Check with Ashley, I'm not sure what's been done.
139735 Anna, it starts at midnight US Central, so that's 5/12 1am US Eastern or 5/11 10p US Pacific. I can't do other time zone math, so for other than US I recommend asking Google. Ashley also had countdown timers, so you might be able to tell from those when it would be for you. :)

I would say smaller books (except maybe Richard who burns through books so fast!) so that we have a chance to get the bonus. But if we see that the bonus is already gone, I'd say swap for page count for max points still available as long as the book still gets done before the event ends.
139735 Prompt # / Name: 43: Lincoln Logs
Book: My Dear Detective: Mitsuko’s Case Files
Author: Natsumi Ito
Date Read: 5/5
Pages: 176
Task: Read a book set in Japan
How it Fits: set in Tokyo, Japan
139735 Okay, I got the new tab in the spreadsheet set up, and the formula tested. When the event is on next week, you can just fill in your line like normal, but Ashley requested we each post our individual completions in the check-in thread. For that, just copy the string in Column J for your line as-is into GR, then please check the box in Column K for your line once that's done. Then whoever has the last completion to turn in can announce Victory, and we will all cross our fingers!

It would be cool if we could plan books for this and start these when the event begins next Monday to try to get the bonus points.

139735 Thanks Namita; I'll try to get as prompt-adjacent as possible! :)
139735 Anna, yeah, I was hosting the party, so I didn't get money down. Which is fine because I was watching Tiztastic, Citizen Bull, and American Promise, and none of them paid out, so that's money I saved!! I'm still watching to see if Caldera gets into the Preakness; I think no, but who knows.

Ooh, this challenge is pretty cool!! I like that these books don't have to be part of the main challenge, but could be if they fit! The flexibility is so nice! And speaking of horse racing, sports books could work for this! :D But also a ton of others as well, so chef's kiss, so great! I will try to start my book for this immediately on the 12th, so that we can hopefully be one of the first three teams finished. I will try to make a spreadsheet tab for this, so formula creating what everyone can copy/paste in the check-in thread, and use the checkbox feature to note whether we have checked in. And then maybe the last person posting their completion can declare Victory? Since I know I'm on random times, I don't want to get stuck with a busy workday and miss our chance at Victory, so I think that's a good plan...

139735 Thanks Ashley!

Team, I'm going to fill prompts as I can. I don't read much nonfiction either, but my first book this month was so I was able to use it for "not my genre" as well. Some of these prompts I'm still scratching my head over lol.
139735 Anna, it was a good race. A couple people at the party picked Sovereignty so that was cool! We shall see what Lukas decides to do with Caldera in the next two Triple Crown races. I am hopeful but have no expectations.

Fi, woohoo!!! I'm glad that fantasy concept was viable! Now I just have to hope I have that happening in one of the fantasies I have lol! I have some in a multi author series, where one of the books was written by an author I know who jumps back and forth, but I'm not sure if the other books do. Complicated...
Fi, if O isn't working, I don't think I used my Orwell book, so we can swap, or you could check with Richard. He just has some huge books in there for points, and Animal Farm is like 150 pages lol. Super small in the points, but it's an O.
139735 I have a microshare in Caldera, but he didn't make it. I'm still waiting to see if he gets into the Preakness field, but I kinda doubt it. He came second in that qualifier race.
I feel like I should rep American Pilot (?) since that is also a D Wayne Lukas horse, but I'm also a Cali girlie so I also root for Baffert horses, and this is his first year back? Or was that last year? My mental storage reached capacity and now I don't remember anything lol.

Doing one last clean this morning and then just rolling with it lol.
May 02, 2025 03:41PM

139735 Rachel, I'm mostly struggling with the prompts. Sometimes I'll think of a book that will fit with what I have going, but these I legit feel like I'm going to stumble over.

Claire, maybe?
139735 Derby party tomorrow for me!! :) Let the bourbon flow!! But yeah, reading is hurting and I have one book I need done Sunday and another I need done Tuesday, and I don't have overlap... Fortunately they're short, but still...
