To save a kingdom, she must sacrifice herself…and her heart.
When Princess Reva seeks a trade alliance, she doesn't realize her hand in marriage may be required to save her people from starvation. But with more than one suitor fighting for her hand, her plans are thrust into chaos when there's a fatal attack in the cove.
After she is ripped away from negotiations against her will, loyalties are tested as rumors of a deadly magic pearl--and the constant meddling of a determined sea elf and a dastardly pirate captain--put Reva into an impossible position.
When a monstrous creature attacks her homeland, can this swashbuckling princess solve the mystery of the forbidden Death Pearl before everyone she loves is dragged beneath the sea?
Loosely inspired by Perseus and Andromeda, this hilarious romantasy set on the high seas is sure to enthrall fans of The Princess Bride and Howl's Moving Castle. Pearls of Salt and Sacrifice is book 2 in the Sacrificed Hearts multi-author series, a collection of stand-alone fantasy romances inspired by monsters of legend, each tale packed with strong heroines, swoony heroes, and sacrificial themes.
Everly Haywood imagines herself to be a shieldmaiden of great prowess…but you’re more likely to find her in a dusty library than on the battlefield slaying monsters from the underworld. She seeks to combine dark fantasy worlds with clean, sweet romance. She loves strong but sweet leading ladies and smoldering, tragic heroes, and if a dragon is thrown into the mix? That’s nearly perfection.
When she isn’t writing, Everly creates lovelies for her cover design business, homeschools her prissy Princess-in-the-Pea, and advocates for her special-needs Warrior Princess. She and her Knight in Shining Armor live in the country with their two daughters and their protective dog nanny.
Ahhhh!!!! I LOVE this book so very much! So swoony, fun, and made me laugh and grin! I have so many thoughts I don’t even know how to write a good review of this book. I loved it. So so much. The plot first of all was so interesting and held my attention really well. It was fast paced, but calm enough to show the characters and their relationships and growth. The characters!! Especially Rency! He reminded me so much of Jack Sparrow it’s not even funny (but it is lol) Reva was great, she reminded me a lot of Elizabeth Swan. And Jareth reminded me of William Turner. It was amazing and I loved the three of them and their dynamic. I highlighted SO MANY quotes! Especially Rency and Jareth’s lol There were a lot of laughable and wonderful quotes And also some really big swoony ones
I really enjoyed Haywood's GRIMKEEPER, so I delved into this looking forward to more of Haywood's addicting style of weaving humor with solid and relatable characters. This one turned out to be quite different. I enjoy the baby krakens (a first for me to read about in stories! they're ADORBS), as well as the ocean (and under ocean!) setting featured in this story. Rency (the pirate) also made me laugh many times thanks to his antics. Felix is also an unexpected contrast as he is rather the weakling prince (who's never really there when he's needed, ha!).
However, when the story is mostly driven by and depends upon the power of the main ship, the chemistry and dynamics between Reva and Jareth (the sea elf prince) were not there for me. The One True Magical Kiss could not carry the two of them as a proper couple in the story, and while I was sympathetic and could understand both of their respective issues regarding their home countries, their relationship and time together felt rushed and too instalove for me to understand and support. I would also have appreciated more Presence in general from Jareth, as his character does not feel very fleshed out.
Overall, thanks to all the other characters beside the main leads being quite interesting, Haywood's writing being very readable for me (she does include quite a bit of action in this one, which may also explain why the MCs are not as fleshed out), and the storyworld being set on and near and under the sea (a particular weakness of mine), I am looking forward to seeing more about Felix and his ladylove, as well as Rency and his pirating days (not to mention his sentient ship!) - hopefully in future books from Haywood!
Content: clean: a few kisses
Thanks to the author/publisher for giving me a free ARC of this book. I am under no obligation to write a review or ensure my review is positive in exchange, nor am I compensated in any way. All opinions in this review are my own.
Thank you for reading! Please like this review if you’ve found it helpful, and feel free to leave a comment with any questions/comments.
Really though, I loved this book and couldn't wait to pick it back up again whenever I had to go participate in real life. Humor, danger, baby krakens (don't think I mentioned those yet, lol), and a happily ever after made for a really good read. Everly Haywood books are comfort books, and this one fit right in to that category. Definitely recommend!
~~I received an early copy of this book for launch purposes and was not required to leave a positive review.~~
The story was interesting in the beginning, and although Princess Reva seemed young and brash, she mostly made rational choices. As the story went on, that balanced seemed to shift; she started going back on previous decisions even when there were more indicators that her original path was right. It was very annoying.
The love story was pretty nonexistent through the 60ish% I read, and seemed to hinge on a magic kiss more than an emotional connection. Also, the pirate had more personality than the sea elf prince and was more interesting than the princess. Once I realized he wasn't the hero, I kept thinking that I'd rather be reading his book than this one.
With marrying the right man to form the best alliance to save her people being the only option, Reva must discern between the 3 men championing for her hand, stop a curse, survive multiple kidnappings and a killer kraken, visit an underwater kingdom, and ya know, be a total queen while doing it. 😂
Not gonna lie, the love square threw me the first couple chapters as I wasn’t sure who I was supposed to be rooting for, but thankfully it quickly becomes obvious! The ending has me very curious about the continued fate of a certain pirate captain… 👀
Also, I am not a sea life girlie. I don’t love squishy things, but this convinced me I absolutely need my pockets full of cute baby kraken, please and thanks. 🥹
This was my introduction to Everly Haywood, and I really enjoyed this novel!
What did I love about this book? Rency! I loved Rency! The charming dimpled pirate - I beg your pardon - respectable merchant with the sentient ship stole my heart completely! He was responsible for the multiple laugh-out-loud moments that earned this book 4 stars. And I will definitely be reading any other books that Haywood wants to write that include Rency.
What I didn't love about this book? Everything else 😬 As my friend aptly phrased it, "The logic isn’t logicing" with this one! I kept thinking that if Reva, Jareth, and Rency could have sat down together for an hour they could have found a way to save both kingdoms without all the stress. Reva's thought processes just didn't make sense. In my opinion, there was a LOT of angst over nothing.
And honestly... just marry the adorable pirate err respectable merchant! He's definitely the better pick. 😄
I'm in the series with this book so I won't be rating it. But it is AMAZING! I loved how adorkably swoony a certain sea elf prince was and the baby krakens were the BEST!
Contains: kisses, some mild fighting, and kidnapping.
I found the princess to be stupid and annoying. She was demanding yet recklessly self-sacrificing. I didn’t believe that they would sleep on a sandy beach leaving her unguarded, that a sailor would not be able to tell one ship from another, and that the MCs could fall in love when they only had like one conversation.
Stupid princess in action: for some reason three guys were vying for her hand. We have guy A who is selfish, may or may not have any say in his government, and possibly tried to assassinate the FMC; guy B who is a creepy kind of privateer who kidnaps her and keeps on calling her love; and guy C who offers a marriage of mutual benefit where they both get what they want and save both their people. Hmm whom will she choose? For some reason she keeps picking guy A. Really? Really? The guy who will probably kill you ya think those trade routes are gonna help your people after you’re dead?
I enjoyed the story. It was playful and fun and definitely made me smile. But I was a bit disappointed in the end.
MINOR SPOILERS
As a side note, I saw this tagged as enemies to lovers and it’s not. Like really not. Which I think contributed to my disappointment.
*****SPOILERS ***** (like give away the ending spoilers)
There are some plot points that don’t make a ton of sense. For example, her step mother arranges a marriage to a third born prince and says Reva will live in his country, this would make no sense given that she’s the crown princess and he’s the third in line. Second point, even after doubts are cast about Felix’s ability to actually back up the benefits he would bring to the union, Reva ignores the very real risks of marrying him without that proven and decides to marry him anyways. It just didn’t make a ton of sense given that she know her marriage has to benefit her people and that’s a bigger risk than the alliance benefits Jareth offers, especially given that she knows his desperation means he’ll have to back up his word.
I was so disappointed she picks the sea elf and not the pirate. The Elf is very quiet and hard to get a read on since he spends most of good time in the background and has very few interactions with FMC, so it feels a bit rushed and odd when she falls for him. He’s also just not quite as fun as Rency so there’s that.
I liked the beginning and I liked the end. The middle, I wasn’t so crazy about. While this had funny moments in it, there were times I wanted to shake the heroine. Her thinking didn’t make sense. She had a solution to her problems but acted like it wouldn’t work. I can’t say much else with out spoiling it.
This is a fun book. The pacing was really good throughout. Things kept moving, and, even in more dramatic moments with heightened emotions, it never seemed to lull. I liked the complexities of the characters, particularly Reva, Rency, and Jareth. It's kinda a love triangle, in that both guys get enough screen time to be misleading. But the relationships are more like Lyra, Shon, and Ian in Siren's Lament, where it's fairly obvious who she will choose romantically because the other guy has an annoying sibling vibe.
The worldbuilding was interesting. The politics of the kingdoms is complicated, but not overwhelming. I was a little confused by the elves and how they fit into the world, but that may have been because I haven't read the rest of the author's books. For example, Jareth is a sea elf and lives underwater in the sea. The dialogue seems to imply that merpeople also exist in this world, but there's no mention of politics between the sea elves and the mer.
Another thing that bugged me was the singular hole in Reva's logic. She's a pretty smart, rational character for most of the novel. Except for one time where it's fairly important to connect the dots correctly or she could lose everything??!
I loved all the Greek mythology references. The story is based on Perseus and Andromeda, but the original myth is completely transformed. Instead of being a helpless damsel, Reva is strong and confident, and actually more proactive than another male character. Elements of the original myth are still there, but changed to be less weird and creepy. It was fun finding all the little Easter eggs.
Me the entire time reading: hot pirate. hot pirate. choose the hot pirate. Like I pictured Rency as Harry: morally gray as a point in the (kinda) love triangle who is kinda mean and self-serving but that's how he shows that he cares: ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Krakens, sea-elves, pirates, and magical curses. What more could you want from a nautical novel? How about princesses, banter, and sweet romance? It’s all here!
I love Everly Haywood’s novels. They feel different and interesting while still keeping the familiar fantasy elements I love. Needless to say, I went into this novel with high expectations. I am happy to say I love this book just as much as her other novels! This is actually one of my favorites, just behind Songbender. It can be read as a standalone. However, it is a great addition to her world of “Between Shade and Flame”.
The characters are well fleshed out considering this is more of a long novella than a novel. Reva is a no-nonsense princess that knows what her kingdom needs. I don’t want to talk too much about the other characters for fear of spoiling something. You will just have to find out on your own! The romance between the two main characters is sweet and just a little bit sassy. And oh my goodness, that kiss! This is a no-spice book so there isn’t anything inappropriate about it. BUT IT MADE ME SWOON! I loved the banter through several parts of the book. The krakens are amazing and so cute. Who doesn’t want a pink blob? I want one!
I loved the nautical setting. It makes me want to take a dip in the sea (without the danger). The ending resolved nicely with room for future stories and I’m excited to continue on in the rest of Every Haywood’s novels. I can’t wait to see a certain misbehaving pirate again. I also can’t wait to read the rest of the Sacrificed Hearts series. You can check them out through the authors listed below! I want to say thank you to Everly Haywood for an ARC of this book.
4.5 stars! This book was full of adventure, betrayal, and a semi-love triangle. She is pursued by 2 very different suitors, all the while her stepmother wants to force her to marry a third prince. Plus....baby Krakens..I mean omg, how cute! This was a great quick read!

This book was so fun. It had pirates, baby krakens, a handsome prince, some mystery, magic, and of course, romance. What is there not to like with all those elements? I also just enjoyed the way Everly was able to write the story, bringing it to life with intrigue and humor. Definitely a book I recommend to all lovers of fantasy and romance!
This was an incredible book! There was never a dull moment but nothing was forced. The plot moved but all in the right time. Characters were loveable and the plot revolved around each of them accordingly. I loved the small touches of certain creatures ;) that consisted with the plot and sea elf. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who loves swoony romance and a feisty FMC!

This book...I did not realize how much I was pining for a no-spice, sweet, high-stakes adventure on the high seas until I read this book. Not to mention having a delightful cross between Howl Jenkins Pendragon and a pirate. (not my words, but someone else mentioned it and now I will never be able to unsee it)
The fact that the baby krakens would not stay in the pockets they were placed in was adorable, and one of my favorite parts. (there is other mischief they get up to, but I won't spoil it for you)
My main objection? There wasn't enough of this book! I was not ready for it to end. However,*cue delighted smile*, there will be more of Rency and Adromeda. I can't wait...
Thank you @Everly Haywood for this ARC! (I was not required to leave a positive review - though I think it's a given because this is the woman who came up with the Between Shade and Flame series.)
Keep reading for a synopsis of the plot and main characters.
2.5 stars. Rencey ruined this book. Everyone else was a good character, he is just an ass. The book ends with 'Rency and his adventures continue..." and I'm like 'oh please no'.
I just finished the ARC and wow!! I absolutely loved this story. Reva was an absolute pleasure to read about! She’s definitely made it to my list of favourite fantasy heroines ever✨ The others, especially Rency and Calix were a treat😂🙌🏻😏. Felix too😂!! I enjoyed all the characters and I can’t wait for more❤️!
Why 4.5 stars 🌟 ? Because I would’ve liked to see more into Jareth and Reva’s relationship and more depth (for reasons you’d have to read about😉). But yeah—mainly because of that. But otherwise it was sweet and cute 🥰.
If you love: 🗡Swashbuckling Princess ⚜️Prince in Distress 🗡Enemies to lovers ⚜️Courtly politics 🗡Who’s the hidden enemy? ⚜️Cute baby krakens 🗡Fae and pirates ⚜️He falls first and hard Then this is perfect for you!!!
I received an ARC and it doesn’t interfere with my thoughts on this book!

This was my first book by Everly Haywood and I absolutely adored it! I read it in one sitting! There is so much to love about this story! I especially enjoyed Rency's character!
I received an ARC from the author and all opinions are my own.
This cute little fantasy had so many great elements! It’s an enemies to lovers with a strong female who wishes to play the part of damsel in distress, but isn’t afforded that luxury and instead must be swashbuckling and strong enough to save herself and her people. The baby krakens throughout the book add a fun playfulness I really enjoyed :) I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a short yet action packed fantasy!
I really wanted to give this five stars. The banter was spot on, the cast of characters amusing and compelling, the world building incredible, and the pacing spot-on. However, to me, there's a major plot hole—and one that I think could've been fairly easily fixed.
Princess Reva's sole goal is to save her people from the starvation they're facing. Her one reason for refusing the advances of the man she's actually interested in is that one of the other men is from a kingdom that has provisions that would be available to her people upon her marriage.
HOWEVER, Reva 1. Questions whether he's actually in a position to make such an offer, 2. Suspects that he's part of a plot to kill her, and 3. Doesn't believe he'd actually help her people based on the fact that he stood by uselessly as his own men were dying.
In spite of all this, she still adamantly refuses to contemplate any other way of providing for her people, which to me, makes her a fool—because if he wants her dead and won't help her people himself, he is the only potential suitor she should immediately remove the list of possibilities.
All that said, I'm intrigued by the storyline of the death pearl, would love to see more of these characters, and really wish this problem didn't exist with the plot because everything else about the story is really well done.

What a funny, swashbuckling adventure this was! I giggled so much throughout these pages.
POSAS begins with Princess Reva on the sands trying to make deals to save her people from starvation when her stepmother drops a bomb on her about a marriage alliance to a third prince. The story takes off quickly as Reva is suddenly thrust into not 1 marriage offer, but 3 marriage offers: Felix the cowardly prince, Rency the utterly hilarious pirate (“merchant sailor”), and the sudden appearance of the elusive Sea Elf prince.
As Reva faces three men she doesn’t know trying to bribe her to marry them for both selfless and selfish reasons, a dark magic and attempted murder disrupts the process. Reva is kidnapped and not only are her people’s lives at stake but also that of the entire Sea Elf population.
POSAS is a fast-paced, no spice romance with a strong FMC, forced proximity, witty banter, plot twists, sweet kisses, and an adorable kraken. It is a standalone in a series of books within the same world. It was a joy to read- a cozy romance to cure my last series hangover. And I tell you straight up… Rency is my favorite. I’d follow him anywhere. 😂
Thank you so much for this gifted ARC, @everlyhaywoodauthor.
Pearls of Salt and Sacrifice by Everly Haywood is the second book from the Sacrificed Hearts series, which contains six books by different authors about maidens falling in love after being sacrificed to monsters. This book follows a different formula from others I've read so far in that the monster sacrifice happens very late in the book and is not the same character as the love interest featured on the beautiful cover art. In fact, this book has three love interests, which is even more than a typical love triangle and makes it unnecessarily convoluted. I had a hard time keeping track of all the characters because the princess was introduced to so many suitors in such a short period. This book also contains a healthy helping of pirate lore, which has never been my cup of tea, as well as krakens, elves, and siren songs all packed into a fairly short novel.
Reva is a fiercely independent princess of a struggling kingdom. She is left with no choice but to make a reluctant marriage alliance with Felix, a prince whom she considers a coward after he abandons his companions during an attack on their ship. After multiple rescues at sea that blur the lines between saving and kidnapping, Reva is also swept into the arms of Rency, a swashbuckling pirate, and Prince Jareth, a sea elf who wishes to rescue his kingdom. Reva's rebellious nature makes it difficult to trust any of the three men who crash-land in her life, and it doesn't help matters that someone is clearly trying to kill her. Too independent to find solace in someone else's arms, she encounters a cute baby kraken that eases her worries and soon learns that it belongs to Prince Jareth. Her feelings toward Jareth become complicated after he uses the siren song to save her from drowning, and she is torn between her heart and her duty to her kingdom which pushes her toward Felix.
I had trouble getting into this book because it goes in so many different directions at the same time. It was hard to root for the main couple for several different reasons. For one, Felix and Rency were featured just as prominently in the story as Jareth and eventually proved that they had no ill intent toward Reva despite taking turns with some questionable actions toward her. Also, Reva does not start developing feelings toward Jareth until after he rescues her from drowning with a siren kiss. Since sirens are known for making people fall in love with them, she, along with the reader, spends most of the book wondering whether or not her feelings are genuine. Reva herself matches the stereotype of a modern princess who doesn't need a man so well that it almost feels wrong to tie her down to anyone, even an attractive sea elf with a whimsical underwater kingdom.
Though this book does not follow the same formula as the other Sacrificed Hearts books in which the monster turns out to be friendly, it does take place in an expansive fantasy world with lots of lore that has yet to be explored, possibly in future Everly Haywood books outside of the series. Jareth's kingdom in particular is very interesting in that it was powered by a sort of sea goddess who is dying and needs to be revived to save the kingdom. The monster that Reva fights at the end is an evil kraken, and there are also cute friendly ones that expand upon the world's nautical lore. Since there was siren magic, I was hoping for a mention of mermaids, but the sea elves are a self-contained race that combines siren and elven lore to create something uniquely original. In certain ways, all three of Reva's suitors could be interpreted as reformed monsters due to their unconventional rescue methods.
While Pearls of Salt and Sacrifice throws a lot of fantastical elements and potential love interests at the wall, it doesn't quite stick the landing. The fast pace and Reva's strong personality make it a unique read, but it can be hard to connect with the romance or root for Jareth due to the rumors surrounding the siren kiss in this book and actual mythology. However, the worldbuilding with its sea elves, baby krakens, and a dying sea goddess leaves plenty of room for exploration. If you enjoyed the unique elements and vast world introduced here, then you'll definitely want to stay tuned for future reviews of other books in the Sacrificed Hearts series from the rest of the authors.
– this is part of a series, but meant to be read as a stand-alone
– this takes place in the same world as Everly’s Between Shade & Flame series (Rhuin), but about 500 years in the future
– this is told from Reva’s point of view
– there is some fantasy violence & death
Review:
I loved getting to read this quick jaunt onto the high seas! I loved our swashbuckling princess and her desire to care for her people. Reva was such a fun character that was an amazing untypical princess. I loved that one of the baby krakens took a liking to her (though she didn’t take to it as quickly) and would constantly be found inside her pocket. I loved that Jareth was so sweet beneath his stoic exterior. He clearly also cared for his people and the creatures in his care and grew to fall for Reva over the course of the story. I also really enjoyed the fun the pirate captain brought into play. Sure, he wasn’t the most noble of characters, but he did add a levity to things as it settled down. I am really excited to see what his future adventures will look like and if he’ll be getting his own story or just be the road for other characters to get to theirs!
Summary:
Princess Reva is almost willing to do anything in order to save her people from starvation. She just never thought that her hand in marriage would even be a suggestion. When she arrives to negotiate a trade alliance with the prince from another kingdom, Reva finds that her stepmother went behind her back and offered Reva’s hand in marriage to the foreign prince. Not only that, but others come asking for the same offer. Her hand for the lives of her people.
To make matters worse, someone is trying to end negotiations by any means necessary. Which is how Reva finds herself attacked and later kidnapped to the high seas. But things are much more dire than anyone could have predicted. A mysterious, yet deadly creature has risen from the deep to attack those involved in negotiations. And it looks like something from myths has been uncovered for the dastardly deed. When the attacker and creature set their sights on her kingdom, Reva needs to make a new alliance and bring together her various suitors or risk everything falling apart…
overview: I now need an elf man and his little baby krakens to adopt me into their family ✋🏻
characters:Reva is definitely a powerful, independent character. She’s smart and has a sassy sense of humor. Let it be known that I cannot stand Reva’s mom or Felix. And Rency? He’s so dramatic and extra lol, I loved him. Jareth on the other hand — oh my beautiful, shy elf man 🥹 he’s protective and just too sweet when he gets embarrassed. The baby krakens were the cutest 😭 The characters and their shenanigans (especially Rency and Reva) had me smiling and I even laughed out loud at one point. Hint: when Rency “bawls” 💀
romance: I love how Reva and Jareth’s characters compliment each other. Reva is vibrant and outgoing while Jareth is calm and observant. Can I just say, Jareth is a yearner lol. I adored how down bad he was for Reva.
”I love you, Reva, as crazy as that sounds. I’ve loved you since I first saw you in that blasted dinghy with the sun on your skin, and the wind and salt in your hair, and determination in your heart—”
✨ marriage of convenience-ish ✨ stranger to lovers ✨ elf prince x human princess
atmosphere: a sparkling cerulean ocean, glittering shells, pink and purple skies, pointed elf ears.
season: summer.

content:language (“Sands and pearls” “Pearls and cannonballs”). sexual (no spice; innocent touches and kisses). other (mentions of curses, magic, elves, mer people, krakens).
I devoured this book in two days, and knew almost from the start that it would be one of my new favorites (and I only loved it more the further I read). Everly Haywood never disappoints with her books, but this one took the cake for the emotional roller coaster it took me on. I swooned, I (nearly) cried, and I felt my heart break several times over watching Reva and Jareth fight for their respective kingdoms and each other. If you want a swoony fantasy romance with pirates, feisty heroines, and soulful elven princes (with baby krakens, might I add!), this the book for you. My favorite part of this book was hands-down the characters, although I really loved the plot, too. The problems with Reva's kingdom mirrored Jareth's troubles, both with no discernable happy ending in sight. The magnitude of mortality is made abundantly clear in this book, and you feel for each death through Reva's eyes. More than just that, you feel the responsibility on her shoulders and the strength she has to push through the pain to keep fighting. I loved how she found herself mirrored in Jareth and his kingdom, but more so how they were loyal to their country first and each other second. (Although they do make the sweetest couple.) Also, did I mention Rency? He is a treasure and an annoyance all at once, and if you like sarcastic pirates, Rency is a perfect fit. Overall, the emotional depth within this story continues to amaze me on further re-reads, and the characters are hilarious, inspiring, and relatable all in one. This isn't a book you're going to forget in a hurry. I got this book early so I could review it, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are honesty and solely my own. All in all, another win for Everly Haywood, and another favorite for me!
Do you like the movie Pirates of the Caribbean? This book felt like that! I loved everything about it from the swoony romance to the witty banter. The Pearls of Salt and Sacrifices by Everly Haywood is a He Falls First, Enemies to Lovers fantasy. This is the second book of a multi-author series titled Sacrificed Hearts, and each book can be read as a standalone.
The character development was great! I found myself laughing with the characters, and getting upset with them. And of course, I loved them. 😏 In this book you will find Baby Kraken(so adorable!🥹), a stepmother…👀, Sea Elves, pirates, and swoony kisses.
The FMC Princess Reva has a choice to make, her people need food. She finds herself sacrificing how her heart feels for the needs of her people.
This was an amazing and beautifully written story! This was the first book I have read by this author, and I cannot wait to read her other works. I highly recommend this book!
-this book was provided to me, in exchange for an honest review.
Reva Morrigan is no damsel in distress. This young crown queen is determined to save her people from starvation, and she’ll do whatever it takes to ensure her kingdom’s prosperity. Her actions are selfless, but she’s no pushover. She is strong and loving, and she knows what she wants. That being said, there’s a cast of characters in this book that keep her life interesting, and not always in the best way.
I really enjoyed this book for several reasons. It’s highly entertaining, and despite being a shorter book, none of the plot felt rushed. The characters and plot were well thought out. Sometimes in these standalone, connected series, the plot feels rushed to me and not like a complete book or world. But that was not the case with this second book in the Sacrificed Hearts series. I’m so excited that there will be another book in this series. I loved the romance in this story. It was sweet and swoon. The baby kraken and Rency were probably my favorites in this story. Overall, a well done book I would highly recommend.
