S!X, I agree in my headcanon Brendan doesn't wear make-up, but as it's a pretty common goth thing to do I wouldn't be surprised if it was mentioned in the books that he did. Likewise with his fashion knowledge - it could be interpreted either way I think, though again I'm in agreement with you - it feels more likely that that incident demonstrates Brendan's awesome big brother skills rather than a secret love for fashion! You never know though, haha. It's interesting how we all can interpret the characters differently. :)

Here we'll be talking about Mackenzie's character and what goes on with her in the MBTW books, so this discussion WILL contain spoilers for that series. Watch out it if you haven't read them all yet!
As always, have fun. :)

I agree with all you guys on the sleeping thing. It's way too underrated a hobby. :D

Hmm, I like what you said about the ghost storyline in MSTV being more special if that's all we get to see of ghosts in the books. I suppose I can live with that. There's plenty of other mythical creatures Sienna Mercer could incorporate into the books!
Ah, that superhero line makes more sense now. Thanks. :)
LOL I love what you said about My Sibling the Mythical Being being about over-analysing every little thing. I was just thinking I didn't mind that you didn't reply to my old comment because we somehow find so many things to talk about in this group I'm always struggling to keep up to date with the different threads! You're so right, we go crazy in-depth on here, don't we? :D
Do you think that Mackenzie line means she has her eyes on a certain footballer? I feel like I remember a moment between her and Kyle once where he complimented her and she blushed or something. Then again looking at how she tried to make it out like she and Justin were a couple in Puppy Love (MBTW#2), maybe she just likes the idea of dating a footballer because it would make her seem cooler (in her eyes anyway)...?
Aw, yeah, that is a nice quote. These books aren't just all silly jokes and young crushes!

I guess the fact that Justin and Riley have known eachother so long is one of the things I like about them as a couple. I tend to just find couples who were friends first cuter than the attraction-at-first-sight thing Daniel and Debi have going on. And yeah, I have to admit much of the reason I like Jiley more is probably down to the fact that I like Riley more than Debi, and most of the time Justin more than Daniel.
There are definitely plenty of moments of connection between Daniel and Debi. I've never interpreted that quote you referenced as showing they have similar political stances, but OK that works! I think Jiley have had more over-arcing storylines as a couple though, and they've overcome more obstacles together like I said before. So maybe that's part of why Daniel and Debi have never been as convincing as a couple for me - these little moments have always been eclipsed by Justin and Riley's big relationship developments. We should probably stop comparing them so much though, haha. Hopefully we'll see more of Danbi together if there are ever any more MBTW books.

From some reason I always imagine the Killer Bees to be based on the Jonas Brothers?! Hopefully that doesn't ruin them for anybody, lol. I guess it's the alliterative names reminding me of them all having the same surname.... I don't know. Is this just me being weird or have any of you guys ever thought they seem similar?

I don't know why, but I always imagined them to be in neighbouring states if not in the same one (which I guess is ruled out now by this Debi quote). I suppose it's just as likely that they could be as far away as Illinois and Florida though. Does anyone remember why Debi had to move? That might give us a clue as to where they are. I'll make sure to look out for any hints while reading the books from now on. This is a cool discussion!

Wow, S!X, your reading tastes certainly are different to when you originally read MTSV! That's awesome that you still obsess over it though, haha. That's so cool that you like learning languages! I've tried a couple of times but never got very far. What languages do you speak?
Hi, BookNerdsAreAwesome! Great username, by the way. :D I love what you said about these books having sentimental value for you. I think it's great when readers can move on to other genres as they get older but still appreciate the books that started it all! Hope you both enjoy being in the group. :)

For Justin I think Cameron Boyce is honestly perfect. He could probably play both twins as well, he seems like he could pull off werewolf-ness. Something about his jaw makes me think of hidden wolf fangs... there's a sentence I never thought I'd say! If not Abraham Attah or Nick Robinson kinda have that werewolf look about them too... is saying that wrong? :D
Moving on, Baillee Madison if she dyed her hair red I think could make a good Debi. She just looks like a really friendly, bubbly person! Same goes for Skai Jackson, though she doesn't really fit the book's description, I can totally see her in that sweet cheerleader role.
Veronika Bonell with a nerdy style could definitely pull off Riley I think. Other possibilities could be Jade Pettyjohn or Brighton Sharbino.
I feels really mean to cast anyone as Mackenzie but what do you guys think of Olivia Rodrigo? For some reason I think she could pull it off. I'm really getting into this looking for actors thing!!

During Daniel and Mr. Hawthorne's talk, it was so cute how they bonded over both not really being into the athletic side of being a werewolf. I love how this series is constantly re-evaluating the goods and bads of being a werewolf from both the twins' perspectives. In My Sister the Vampire it feels like being a vampire is only ever portrayed as good - Ivy never resents it or anything, and Olivia seems perfectly happy being a human too.
Also from that bit, I think the thing about the werewolf form amplifying your mental ability as well as your physical was so awesome. We've talked about it before but I really think Sienna Mercer has done an outstanding job of adapting these mythical beings into her own thing and exploring all the different aspects of life that come with them. And it's great for Daniel to have something he likes about it! <3
On the subject of Sienna Mercer's mythical creatures, did anyone spot this line on pg 201:
It was eerie, running through a shadowy field of tall grass with no opponents gunning for him [Justin]. It was kind of like playing against a team of ghosts - which, in Pine Wood, was not that weird an idea.
Since we now know from Fangs for the Memories (MSTV#18) that ghosts are a thing in this universe, do you think this was a hint from the author? Do the werewolves know about the ghosts? Do you think they'll come into this series in future books?
There is a quote on pg 162 which always confuses me. Just wondering if anyone can explain this to me:
"Oh. So now you're not just keeping secrets, you're lying to my face, too?" She [Riley] planted her hands on her hips. "And a ridiculous lie, as well! What next? You're really a superhero?"
I really don't remember any mention of superheroes before this point. So what is Riley on about???
Moving on, I've said in an old comment on this thread that I felt I understood Debi better in this book, and I noticed it on this reread too. I particularly love this quote:
"OK." Debi turned away to take a book out of her locker. "Forget it, then. It's really no big deal."
There's that phrase again.
Daniel was beginning to understand that whenever Debi said something wasn't a big deal, she really meant that it was a big deal. It was as though Debi was self-conscious about letting him know how she really felt about things.
Boy, does that sound familiar!
To me this really emphasises the similarities between Debi and Daniel and makes you see why they'd be good together - something we've been discussing quite a lot recently over in the Debi Morgan spoiler thread. Plus it's great to see some depth to Debi - her being self-conscious about her feelings makes her a lot more relatable, at least for me.
Some more great moments were when Justin said, "Football meant the world to him, but his twin brother meant the universe." (I mean how cute is that?!) and when the twins' Mum could tell the twins apart even when Justin was dressed as Daniel on pg 214 and they were like, "She's good." :D Would love to see more moments with their mum like this - she seems really nice!

I'm in a band with Milo, Justin and Petra - Ivy's boarding school friend from Flying Solo (MSTV#11). To be honest our band is probably going to suck, I mean, Milo and Justin aren't very good at music and I'm pretty sure both me and Petra have never had an interest in being in a band!
I'm putting on a play with Ivy, Amy Teller (Jackson's agent) and Albert (the Franklin Grove museum caretaker). This might not actually be too bad. I quite like the theatre and since Amy works in Hollywood I'm sure she'd be helpful. Ivy was good at it in Lucky Break (MSTV#7) and Albert seems to like the dramatic - yeah, pretty happy with this one!
I'm on a football team with Kyle, Miss Samantha (the nice dance teacher from Tail Spin {MBTW#4}) and Charles. I reckon me and Samantha could hold up pretty well, Kyle would be a good captain, and as for Charles, I'm not so sure. I guess he has super vamp abilities, so that might help him out?
I'm doing the school newspaper team with Garrick Stephens, Principal Caine (that super moody lady from MBTW) and Will (Jackson's stunt double from Double Disaster (MSTV#13). I guess this one's OK? As the headteacher Ms. Caine would be helpful I'm sure, and Will's like the nicest guy ever so I'd be happy to work with him. Garrick would be annoying no matter which of these groups he got put into with me, so I guess being on the newspaper team with him is better than most!
On the cheerleading squad with me would be Reiko, Mackenzie and Riley, which I'm actually really happy with. Yes, Mackenzie would be annoying but she is a cheerleader. Reiko's really sporty and has vamp abilities so I'm sure she'd do great and Riley would have the dedication to make us all keep going!
Helping me plan the All Hallows Ball is Justin and Daniel's mum, Mr Hawthorne (the nice old man who (view spoiler) in Howl-oween {MBTW#3}) and Alice (the waitress Charles (view spoiler) in Vampalicious {MSTV#4). Not really sure what to make of this one... but I guess it's good I got the responsible adults for this one instead of on the cheerleading squad or something weird. :D
I'm going to a werewolf gathering with Daniel, Olivia and Jessica Phelps (the mean actress from Star Style {MSTV#8}). Maybe we could just give Jessica the slip or something - then I'm sure this would be a heap of fun!
And finally I'll be baking with Brendan, Debi and Otto (from Daniel's band). Not sure how interested Otto would be but with Brendan and Debi I bet it'd be fun.
This game is so much fun!!

Haha, I would love to see Nathan and Chris as cheerleaders! Hopefully Debi could teach them a few moves. Though I guess if they really got into it Nathan would have great rhythm and Chris would be able to do some epic lifts!
Your last two are so random. :D This game can give you some weird combinations!

Haha, I'm not sure how make-up could save the day either but you're right, Sienna Mercer could find a way I'm sure.
Wow, that's deep about him experimenting on Bethany! It does sound kind of similar to how Ivy made that remedy for Brendan's illness in Flying Solo (MSTV#11) though, so maybe something different? :)
