There's nothing like sitting outside and reading a book in the sun! (I definitely wouldn't recommend sitting out in the rain)"

I should rephrase - I sit on a very comfy chair on my porch reading for hours. :P

Me! I sit on my porch reading for hours.

118012 I read 9 in May.
May 31, 2014 07:49PM

118012 How many books did you read in May? We need to pick up the pace a little bit! No pressure. :P

(For our new members: We're trying to see if we as a group can read 10,000 books this year, so at the end of each month each member counts up how many books they've read, and they post that number to that month's tally thread. Every member is free to join in!)

Note: No conversation in this thread, please. If you have questions or comments about this challenge, you can post them in the Group-wide Goal: Can We Reach 10,000 thread - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

118012 Welcome, Gareth!

118012 I got so deeply in the habit of summer reading as a kid that it has carried on throughout my life. The weather starts to warm up, and I immediately think "SUMMER READING LIST!" :P

LOL I like the optimism!

118012 Does your summer reading tend to be different from your usual reading? Do you make a loooong summer reading list? (I'm guilty of that one!) Do you pick books with a summer theme? Or ones that are easily picked up and put down for when you're sunning yourself on a beach?

118012 Nice work, Pat!

Leatherbound?! Nice!

Dover Thrift Editions. They have hundreds of titles, and it's all awesome literature. :D

But that's the beauty of the books I bought, Amy - they're all (except the Wombles) published by a company that does thrift editions of classic books, so they're new but only cost as much as (or less than) books in second-hand stores! :D

Basically, I searched the company's name and just kept clicking "Add to cart" whenever I saw a title I haven't read yet, haha!

Would you like to set up a buddy read for an adult contemporary novel? I don't want anyone to feel excluded. :)

118012 I had a garage sale today, and I promised myself that I could spend half of the proceeds online in a splurge-like fashion. I got more money from it than I expected, so I've made out like a bandit on Amazon! :D

Fathers and Sons
White Nights and Other Stories
The Metamorphosis and Other Stories
White Fang
The Invisible Man
Selected Poems
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
The Wombles Go Round the World (don't judge me :P)

I AM SO EXCITED TO GET THIS PACKAGE!!!!!

Yeah, I'm not sure about books like The Lovely Bones either... doesn't that have a lot to do with the hereafter? That would seem to make it more "speculative" fiction, but I don't know!

Basically, if you guys think a book could be classified as contemporary, go ahead and count it for the challenge. There are no genre police here! At least, none that I'm aware of... ;)

Wow, that definition doesn't work at all! Technically a book that was written a thousand years ago and was also set a thousand years ago would have been "contemporary" at the time. ;)
