Reading Slumps (11 new)
Nov 13, 2014 07:32AM

118012 Camille, my main recommendation would be to cut down the number of novels you're reading. The main reason I get into reading slumps is because I start too many and can't decide which to read, so I never get any reading done. Therefore, I strictly limit myself to one book at a time. Then again, I know people who can read loads of books at one time. Perhaps if you just majorly focused on one, and pushed through and got it read, your reading might pick up again.

I can also second the previous mentions of a light-hearted, or 'easy' read. I always go back to young-adult novels or a simple crime novel to get me going. Usually I can get through these really quickly, and then I'm off again.

Ultimately, don't beat yourself up about reading slumps. Personally, I think they're natural, and happen probably to everyone in this group. You'll get through it eventually. :)

118012 Guys, I'm only 3 books behind schedule.

SO CLOSE.
118012 Got this out the library today! :)

118012 As per request, this is a new thread for new members to introduce themselves, as the old one was getting mightily long!

If you've just joined, or are wanting to get into the group, let us know a bit about you. Where are you from? What's some of your favorite books? Basically anything, even if it's just a simple 'hi'. This thread is your first port of call!

118012 Way to go, Roseanne!

118012 100 pages into Call the Midwife. Having seen the first series of the BBC drama, it really is a wonderful read!

118012 I hope you enjoy The Book Thief, Alessandra! It's once of my favorites!

118012 Goodreads makes me laugh sometimes. When attempting to add my latest read to my Personal Challenge thread, the 'add book/author' search wasn't working.

It came up with this:

Search is temporarily unavailable.
Use this time to read a book!

118012 You've had some wonderful reads this year, Roseanne!

118012 When returning books to the library, I once again got drawn in to the Leisure Reading collection. I swear it just stares at me until I give in and have a browse.

So, in a small change of plan, I got The Song of Achilles out, seeing as I've heard many good things about it, and it was shorter than I expected.

And Call The Midwife: A Memoir of Birth, Joy, and Hard Times, to stick to my resolution of reading some non-fiction this month!

Very excited to get started on both!

Not sure what'll happen with my other reads, we'll just have to wait and see! :P

118012 It was a really lovely read, Kate! And easy to get through.

Casually binge read it in less than a day. Read til 1am, woke up at 8 and didn't move til I finished it. The wonders of having afternoon lectures...

118012 Oh definitely! It'll hit Saturday and I'll have no urge at all and instead I'll binge watch the 50 billion TV shows I need to catch up on.

Now to decide what to read next...

118012 Yeah, I can understand why Dracula is as popular as it is. Afterall, it kinda falls into that easy-to-get-into adventure novel genre, probably as much as it does horror.

I just wish Carmilla was more widely recognised as PURE AWESOMENESS.

118012 November 'I Need To Buy A Vowel' Challenge:

No As-
No Es- Fangirl
No Is- Manhattan Transfer
No Os- A Streetcar Named Desire
No Us- The Catcher in the Rye
No Ys- The Sense of an Ending

Inadvertently, I've mostly completed this from what I've read so far this month... Love it when coincidences happen!

118012 Rather gay, slightly archaic female vampires? Hell yes! Aha, I really liked it, as you can probably tell. Despite being considerably shorter, I really think it packed a punch equal to that of Dracula!
118012 Decided to read this on a whim. Really really liked it. It's worrying how similar me and Cath are though. Scary...

You can check out my review here.

118012 Kassandra, it actually disappointed me quite a bit. For its acclaim, I expected it to be far stronger a story.

Renee, I'm definitely getting there. Out of nowhere, I've suddenly got this urge just to read, all the time. Which is bad timing considering my deadline is on Friday...
