My favorite thing is a good series where the author can keep it interesting with one MC throughout. But. We know it doesn't always work that way.
I kind of think that it's harder to write a standalone in fantasy and UF. You know, with all of the necessary world-building involved, how do you fit it into one book and produce an excellent story at the same time?
That being said, American Gods. Such a great book. My favorite standalone fantasy. And also just favorite book. Ever.
Sometimes it's harder for me to read a series where the main characters change. You get attached to a character and then you have to let them go and continue with this other character? That's hard for me to do. I have to really have interest in the other character.

AGREED. That was seriously one of the best things ever. So fucking accurate. A must-read post IMO. All my feelings, basically.

I hope to finish this tomorrow.

I hope they finally tell me about Mr. Wong!

I'll read a little of everything, but I'd kill for good UF :) I like fantasy and horror, dystopia and sci-fi, romance with an edge, historical fiction, and non-fiction -particularly of the political or health variety.

I read First Drop of Crimson. It was pretty good. Interesting and fun, but predictable and insta-lovey. I enjoyed it, though. It was basically exactly what I expected it to be.

Yeah, Chess's struggle with her demons and addiction continues to be a main theme throughout the series. We get to learn a lot more about her and learn how she got to that point, as well. As much as I'd love everyone to love the series, it probably isn't for everybody for that reason. She's still one of my top fave characters of all time.

Looooved Parasite; I can't wait to reread it for the sequel this year!

I've thought about reading the Spider series a few times, but there was something that someone said that deterred me from it...but I can't think of what it was. WAS IT YOU KIM LOL. The Scent of Shadows sounds pretty good. Not a fan of angel books.

So...we have a few days of waiting. But here's hoping Seanan McGuire gives us an excellent book for the month and (fingers crossed) a new series to obsess over. I've really enjoyed her Mira Grant stuff.

"Sparrow Hill Road is the first volume in the story of Rose Marshall, who was the first victim of the man called Bobby Cross, although she was far from the last — and unlike most of them, she did not go easy into that good night. Sixty years down the line, she's still kicking ass, taking names, and more than a little bit pissed off about the way that she died.
You want a good little ghost who'll stay where she's put and only haunt the people who deserve it? Go to a sleepover. You want the real story of the American ghostroads? Come and have a word with Rose."

Hi, Heather! I hope you like it! Welcome :)

Oh I hadn't read that. Hmm well...that would have been nice to know. Yeah, I agree about the love triangle...there doesn't seem to be a whole lotta love going on with it. It's like a meh triangle. Let me know when you are going to start the next one, maybe I can read it with you.
Jessica wrote: "I like to have about 3 books going. I'm reading Unholy Ghosts and the first Huntress so I think that's enough UF. Maybe I'll add in a non fiction or a mystery or thriller."Sounds like you'll be happily occupied, then. I usually only have multiple books going if I'm in a slump and not sure what to do about it.

I still need to read The Brave Tale!

Hamilton. NO.
Jessica wrote: "I LOVED 11/22/63. I have really really been liking King's more recent books. I just finished Joyland yesterda"I just finished 11/22/63. I wept. Not an easy feat for someone like myself.

The Fae Chronicles by
Amelia Hutchins for sure! I love those books.

The Hunger Games ended well. Hmm. That's about all I can think of at the moment.
I like it when they end it at a perfect time. Sometimes, it seems like the story has been told. Like with the Mercy Thompson series...there's been 8 books. And I'm starting to think it's time for her to end it. I just hope she does it WELL.
Jessica wrote: "I ordered the book on Amazon yesterday, so hopefully should have it next week. If it's solid, I usually go ahead and read the next one. Also, since y'all have talked so much about Ms. Stacia Kane..."OMG YAY I hope you love them. We are all definitely hardcore Downside Army.
