116885 I'm in love. Everyone should read it! Everyone!!
116885 I re-read this book just a couple of months ago. I liked it, I even might join in and read it a third time.

116885 Spoiler alert, both for the tv-show and books!

Ok, just finished ep 8 and I'm disapointed.

I think that Armstrong is doing a pretty great job of making the books not that sexistic, but that sex scene with Nick? Awful sexistic! 1, leading to the sex: He is the seducer, the active one, she is obcenely passive. 2, when they are doing the foreplay we have one part of her doing absolutely nothing else than following his cues and moan a bit. And the camera? it totaly focus on her, making her a object. The focus of the scene points out every thing that make my "fast porn-surfing thingie" end up in an hour of searching the web for anything good do I can get off like today!

And I don't think Jeremy is well portraited, Clay is mushy in ways that makes him less hot, Elena is fine but can't they get to the part where they stay with Phillip and Clay is pretending to be her cousin? my fav part of the whole series!

116885 For me it's working silent or with music.

Except for one period when my in-laws and brother-in-law were living with us for five months, then I couldn't stand sound or music or anything. As soon as I got to my work I turned the radio of and basked in the wonderful silence, lol!

To get back on topic: WVMP is my favourite music-related series. The music is there through the books, and the author (Jeri Smith-Ready) have crerated playlists on her website with the music mentioned in the books. I love it!

116885 I know it's off topic, but I realized I had a bunch of smart people with, I hope, lots of ideas here. The thing is that I've started with roller derby. And part of that is a name. And it has to be just right! And it's hard to find something out. Got any ideas for me?

I have gotten so far as I know I'll wan't to have Katla in it. (The cruel, cruel dragon of the brothers Lionheart, which happen to be the name my sister calls me, nooo idea why. ;) ). But more? I've been thinking about Katla Kofot, kofot means Crowbar in swedish (that kind of name, like "Kent Knife" was a common name for criminals in Sweden for some decades ago). Or maybe Katla Cunt-something. But what is that something, that not sounds like I'm a rapist? Or Katla Crusader? Crusad-her? Cuntla?

I don't know, do have any suggestions? Or someting that not works?

116885 Lol, thanks! I'm pretty good with numbers. As long as the teacher is explaining that is. I understands perfectly. And then two minutes later I bend over my book to try to solve some problems myself, and don't get it. Understanding, yes. Attention span of a.... Look, a bird! Yes. ;)

116885 "Somebody mixed my medicine, I don't know what I'm on", pretty accurate about how I'm feeling while struggling with the math sometimes. :p

116885 Interesting! I'm more of a periodical person when it comes to music over all, last month it have been much The Pretty Reckless, which is also when I've read most of the Kara Gillian series, so they are a little combined. But since I've studied math a lot The Pretty Reckless also go for derivative and algebra, lol. :p

116885 And a plus is that Barnette is the author that wrote the blog "Jen reads 50 shades", (that was actually how I found her). Just that make me go into the book with good expectations, lol.

116885 I listened to Pink at work (while stretching, oh my work morals) tonight and started to think about My Life as a White Trash Zombie, and realized that Pink reminds me of the MC in some ways.

And I started to think about which music that makes you think about a book or a series?
Or something else that takes you back into the world of a book?

116885 Yes, I so know what you're talking about.

On that note: I really enjoyed The Boss by Abigail Barnette, I tried to have my husband to read it but he bailed because of the english. To bad. :p

116885 Hahahaha, you're welcome! ;) Sorry to have ruined your good book sex, lol!

116885 Oh well, since I already have 10 books on my currently-reading-shelf that I'm not reading, why not one more, which I might read? ;) I'll get started tomorrow!

116885 Something that really puts me of is the word "impale". I don't know if that's because that in swedish is only the impale á Dracula and it's more flexible in english, but when I hear that word in sexual context my only picture is torture of Dracula and this picture:
Eek!

116885 Jill Kismet, Night Shift. She has a past as an escort but isn't ashamed of it, more pround of getting out of the life on the streets.

And I probably hae to read Unholy Ghosts sometime soon.

116885 Oh, and of course that wasn't just for those who live in US, it's more that most YA I've read is from there so I got curious about that when I wrote the first part, and then it widened. :)

And sorry for hijacking the thread, if it's better for the discussion you can put it in an own thread.

116885 Btw, I know that we have different cultural views in different parts of the world, how is it generally in the US when it comes to sex? I read this YA once where the Mcs were like 18 and 19, and the otherwise cool mom freaked out when she saw them kiss so she was like "keep the door open when you hang out, I CAN SEE YOU!!". And that is like totaly alien for me, is this kind of behaviour common? And I know that of course this differs in different areas an so on, but I don't think I've had a friend that have had parents cockblocking if their older than like 15.

The common opinion is "kids gonna have sex, provise them with knowledge about safe methods and to say no when they (only girls, boys always want to have sex ofc!) don't want to, and stay clear, if we say NO they gonna end up pregnant and in denial until there is to late for abortion or with a lot of STDs". Which I find great, apart from that rape culture thing in the middle.

So, how was the common opinion about this where you grew up/live?

I'm from Stockholm, Sweden.
Feb 10, 2014 12:26AM

116885 Yes! I totally agree!

My opinion is that the MC is to be adored for her ability to stay chaste, but that the choice to stay so often has anything to do with that she has followed her inner wishes (in which cases she of course shouldn't do anything that she wouldn't wan't to do, but other than thinking about WHY she so often don't have had any interest in sex, I find that it's often about that she hasn't had the balls (ovaries?) to do something about it but has stayed on safe ground where she knew the rules. Which she of course abandon when a strong, experienced man comes along to sweep her away.

A list of books to stay clear of (or at least be prepared of) sounds great, but I would really enjoy a opposite list even more, books where the MC have had an actual sexlife and is experienced! That's what I wan't to read!
