1056220 The 2022 Nommo Awards (for African Speculative Fiction) was announced on Sep. 2nd. The winner in the novel category is The Library of the Dead by T.L. Huchu. I finished this a few days ago and am going to take the liberty of counting it here in case I don't get to another award winner. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

1056220 Challenge complete!
Keyword: You
Book: And What Can We Offer You Tonight by Premee Mohamed. I didn't love it unfortunately although the premise of the story is interesting - a courtesan comes back from the dead (we still don't know why) and starts exacting revenge. I just didn't care for the writing style.

1056220 I read My Heart Is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones which won a Stoker Award Stoker Award presented in May 2022 for Superior Acievement in a Novel.

I only read 1/3rd of it before I decided to abandon it. This book just wasn't for me.

1056220 Challenge complete with One of Us Is Next by Karen M. McManus. I enjoyed it a lot - and I'm not usually one for teenage dramas, but this book somehow just works for me.

1056220 I read Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley which won a 2022 Edgar Award for Young Adult Novel. I didn't like this one at all - it felt like an info dump of a book. I appreciated learning more about that Native American tribe's culture - but it felt awkward through much of the book.

1056220 Challenge complete - I read Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey. It's about a group of librarians who go from town to town in a Western dystopian World where only "straight" men and women are tolerated. I'm not sure I loved this one - the plot was weak and the World building was thin.

1056220 I read Piranesi by Susanna Clarke - actually DNF because I wasn't in the mood for that steam of consciousness type of book. It was taking a long time to get to the plot and I just couldn't wait for it.

edited to add - it won a 2021 Audie Award (Audiobook of the Year)

1056220 I read Piranesi by Susanna Clarke but couldn't finish it. I chose it as a buzzed about book / award winner, but didn't like that it took so long for the plot to unveil.

1056220 Taking a few liberties with the keyword "Queen", I read the 1st book in the Secret McQueen series (Something Secret This Way Comes by Sierra Dean).

It's a paranormal romance that I enjoyed so much I went on to read a few more books in the series.
