101690 Finally finished Farm Fresh Murder while moving. I think I would have enjoyed it more, if I could have stuck with it without interruptions, so I will try If Fried Chicken Could Fly by the same author. When I finished moving I read and loved the second book in the little Amish girl Lily Lapp series~ A New Home For Lily.
Now I am reading The Dress Shop Of Dreams.
The Dress Shop of Dreams by Menna van Praag

Farm Fresh Murder (A Farmers' Market Mystery, #1) by Paige Shelton

If Fried Chicken Could Fly (Gram’s Country Cooking School Mystery #1) by Paige Shelton

A New Home for Lily (The Adventures of Lily Lapp, #2) by Mary Ann Kinsinger

101690 I'm in the process of moving so the book I am supposed to be reading, is not getting much attention, lol! Should be done moving by Saturday night.

Welcome to the group! I hope you find lots of good reads from our bookshelf here, and from those on my profile.

Oh my, hope you enjoy! :D The two cozy groups seem to be the most consistently active. I have found new groups just by seeing interesting discussions listed on the home page.

That is true, there are, but there are also so many romantic stories to tell, like castles, and knights, and lords saving maidens, plus cowboys, and men in uniform......Oo-la-la, (swoon)! :D

101690 Wow, Lyndsey, and Kristi, be sure to report this problem in the Goodreads Feedback group, as they need to be informed!

I feel the same Desiree.I usually click on 'Home' which list all the groups with the most recent activity, and if I see a discussion that looks appealing, I jump in! :D

101690 Hi Charmaine, WELCOME to the group!
I would suggest also creating a thread asking that here~

Oh, I should have known that no one today would use such expressions, haha! Yeah "F" bombs are a red-stop-reading- light to me, and even though I am no longer a Christian, I don't like religious swears either, funny -dammit or damn doesn't bother me, as long as it doesn't have g** in front of it!
101690 Hi Kristi,
What genre is the Boys Of Syracuse series?
IMO, with adults on the covers[and by the synopsis], all your examples of curses are in no way realistic! No one has used these expressions since the 50s-early 60s, except for crap and darn!

Just MO, but myself I can tolerate PG books~ mild swears, like s**t, da**,hell, cripes, bitch, if they are only used scattered, not pervasively. [a man's "tool" that starts with a D, nor a woman's anatomy with another name for 'cat'] is crude and never acceptable, and neither is the "F" bomb or religious curses, or graphic sex scenes/rape! However....Steamy-knee weakening kisses, and sparks-flying-chemistry, are good, lol!
I also avoid gruesome gore/explicit crime scene details and detailed abuse of any kind[verbal, emotional, physical, sexual] to a child.

I very seldom buy books. I borrow from my library or buy 'used-like-new from Amazon, only if I cannot get them from my library system or inter-library loan, or it sounds so good that I don't have the patience to wait for it! I have a phobia about fire-hazards since knowing two who experienced home fires, so I will not keep a large collection, and now prefer the Kindle editions.

101690 I just finished the wonderful 5-star read ~ Life with Lily (The Adventures of Lily Lapp #1) by Mary Ann Kinsinger by Mary Ann Kinsinger, and yes, it does have a chapter showing the controversy over some Amish using Powwow doctors[because some feel it is superstition, witchcraft, or from the devil], very interesting, as the whole book is a delight. ♥

Now I will start a cozy mystery~ Farm Fresh Murder (A Farmers' Market Mystery, #1) by Paige Shelton

101690 Desiree wrote: "Oh no!!!!! I hate that you struck out the last few books. Nothing worse than not being able to finish a book because they are nasty or crass. I hate that movies and tv are the same way too! Even PG..."

Thanks Desiree, actually I loved Elephant Company, and the Amish/Englisher trading places story~ Double Take, and two Mennonite suspense stories Simple Secrets and Simple Deceit were excellent. Plus, I liked, [but didn't love] the cozy mystery~Playing with Fire (Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade Mystery #2) by J.J. Cook. So really just The Husband's Secret and this last book ~The Back Door Man were 'trashy'.

You are so right about the movies too. When my kids were teens we just got cable, and I saw right away that I had to screen the movies before I let them watch even PG......and PG-13 are often disgusting! I hate that even the Previews to some TV shows are often disgusting and should be restricted to after 9PM, IMO!

101690 Put off from reading a 'Thriller' again because of pervasive profanity, including 'F' bombs! It is so difficult to find 'clean' thrillers, unless one sticks with YA or Christian.

I wasn't a Christian until adulthood[and no longer one], yet thankfully, neither my friends nor family use filthy language, and even as a teen I avoided the Cretins who did! Why is it that so many authors write like they think everyone is a foul mouthed lowlife?
Apr 18, 2016 08:25AM

101690 Desiree, I totally agree about YA books usually being cleaner, plus much is better written than so much of the adult fiction.
