101690 I am enjoying and about to finish the Kindle Unlimited book~ Exiled Memoirs of a Camel by Kathleen Karr
Ali is a young camel in Egypt when he is captured by humans. Determined to "work, but never surrender," he earns a reputation as a disobedient animal and is sold to an American colonel. The year is 1856 and Ali soon finds himself in Texas as part of the U.S. Camel Corps. Crossing the landscape of 19th century America, Ali learns to balance his pride with the needs of his new companions, and slowly matures into a noble creature.

Compellingly written from the camel’s point of view, this unusual book offers a fresh and unusual perspective on a little-known slice of American history.

Then I will begin another Kindle library book that I already have downloaded~ The Last Days of Night by Graham Moore
New York, 1888. Gas lamps still flicker in the city streets, but the miracle of electric light is in its infancy. The person who controls the means to turn night into day will make history—and a vast fortune. A young untested lawyer named Paul Cravath, fresh out of Columbia Law School, takes a case that seems impossible to win. Paul’s client, George Westinghouse, has been sued by Thomas Edison over a billion-dollar question: Who invented the light bulb and holds the right to power the country?

101690 I am even considering dropping my entire cable bundle, including phone and internet for a few months, since I have my cell phone and now an indoor antenna, just to pay off a few small bills faster.

I have done without cable tv for over a year, and didn't miss it in the least, but haven't done without internet since '98, so not sure about that, lol!

Anyway, if I disappear for a bit, I'm just on hiatus. :D

101690 I have no doubt that I will not miss cable either. Barely watch tv now, and I sure won't miss the ever-rising bill, haha!

Thanks for the head's up about Doc Martin. :D

101690 I just bought my Roku [and the ISIGNIA indoor antenna] at Best Buy last night. Dropping cable today, but wow can't believe I still have to pay $69.99 for internet service, through Spectrum! That still cuts my cable bill in a little over half, though! :D

Spectrum and Century Link's DSL are the only internet providers in my city, except for the Satellite companies, but this apt. does not allow satellite dishes.

Hey, got a nice surprise~ Best Buy emailed me a code to get Sling TV for 30-days free!

If you're okay with Longmire, you'll be fine with this show. :-)"

Good to know, thanks again!

101690 Hi Kristi, thanks for the info about the show Flash Point. Which service carries it?

I watch NCIS and Longmire, both of which have cursing, though not continuous, and no "F" bombs. The Longmire TV show is however, much cleaner than the book I tried to read!

101690 Do you subscribe to any Streaming TV services such as Amazon Video,, Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV, DirectTV Now, CBSTV, Crackle, Vudu, ect?

Which do you use most?

Which series are you hooked on?

I do not subscribe to any yet, because my granddaughter uses her family's Netflix subscription whenever she comes to spend every other weekend. So far I have enjoyed~ Monarch of the Glen, Midsomer Murders, Longmire, and I'm now enjoying Escape To The Country.

101690 Re: Laurie, yes, I totally agree!

Re: Kristie, now I must reserve "A Room With A View" as I have not seen that one.
101690 I noticed some white bloom on a tree the other day. I believe it was a Magnolia tree.

I hope these below freezing temps won't kill it. I know crazy weather like this killed a nice big old neighborhood Mimosa[not really suited to our zone] back in the terrible winter of '78. :[

OMG, YES! Eric Schweig who played Uncas was who I crushed on!
101690 The same freaky weather is happening here in North Central Ohio, Margaret, broke records for 70's in Feb, now the next several days in the 20's with possible snow!
101690 Oh nooo, not him! Tried C.J.Box but he uses far too much profanity, and gratuitous violence/grisly gore for my taste! :[

Found his first book "Open Season" disgusting!Almost stopped reading when early on an adulterous 'man-whore' answers the door pantless with an erection, and carries on a vulgar sexual conversation with the main character. Wish I had stopped then!

Needless to say, that book was enough to put him on my "authors to AVOID" list!
Mar 11, 2017 07:45PM

101690 Oh, I didn't know he had a newspaper column, but I haven't subscribed to a newspaper in decades.
101690 Who is the author of "Force of Nature"?
So sorry to hear that you need to use oxygen, but happy for you to be in the beauty of the west.

101690 Yesterday and last night I read the hilariously funny~ Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys by Dave Barry

It was sooo funny, and eye-opening! All females from 16 on up, should read this. I am recommending this for my teen granddaughter, so she doesn't have unrealistic expectations about "Mr. Right", lol!

Now I am reading All the Shah's Men An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror by Stephen Kinzer

and~ One Classic Latin Lover, Please by Marcia Lynn McClure I am going to love this because I also had a thing for Ricardo Montalban, and Disney's Zorro~Guy Williams who was born Armand Joseph Catalano (nicknamed "Armando" by his family) of Italian parentage in New York City on January 14, 1924.
I also swooned for~Henry Darrow ...who played Manolito Montoya on the western series ~The High Chaparral.
101690 Hi Autumn, Welcome to the group! :D
I only remember several weekends we travelled from Cheyenne, WY. to a used bookstore in Denver, CO when my dad was stationed at Cheyenne. Beautiful country. On one of those trips, we ate at a brand new McDonalds, back in '58-'59!
