Did You Notice Something a Little Different?
UPDATE: Thanks for all the feedback! For those of you who were having issues with blurriness, we have good news: we pushed out an update this afternoon that improves the sharpness of the font for users who were affected. We’re monitoring all the comments and will keep you posted on any further updates.
If you’re a frequent visitor to Goodreads, you've probably noticed a few tweaks we’ve made to the fonts and colors on the desktop site today. Our goal with these small-but-important changes was to consolidate and refresh our visual styles and lay the groundwork for some design improvements that we’re planning in the future.
What’s different?
To enhance the readability of text on Goodreads, we’ve adopted two new open-source fonts. Lato, our sans-serif font, was designed by Warsaw-based designer Łukasz Dziedzic (“Lato” means “Summer” in Polish). Merriweather, our serif font, was created by Eben Sorkin and was designed to be pleasant to read on screens.
To make it easier to scan the page for information you need, we’ve touched up and modernized the design of common page layout elements like section headers, tabs and links.
To simplify and modernize our visual design, we’ve reduced the number of link colors we use, removed gradients from buttons and the site navigation, and applied a more harmonious color palette to interactive elements such as buttons, stars, and links.

Bear in mind that people are seeing different things. Don't be rude or condescending just because you like what you see. Other people have issues that you are not having. More than 1,300 people have commented and I seriously doubt anyone is just trying to be bitchy.

Gawker too, in ..."
I think it's that the font looks quite old-fashioned-type-writer-y (complete with weird kerning). It's probably meant to look sophisticated and literary. And to be fair, it would probably look really nice in a book. But this isn't a book - books don't glow white, for a start, which means that different fonts are appropriate.

Also, didn't realize the color coding for links was removed and now they're just bold? Terrible idea.
Please revert back to the way it was before.

Thank you, Lobstergirl. I completely agree with you.

Yeah, that might be it. I can actually handle all kinds of fonts when reading a book, and small spacing or a small font aren't issues either, but obviously not everything works when you transfer it to a computer screen.

Yeah, there are some places where links are still colored, and some places where they are just black and bold. As you say, the latter does not work well.

everything else is super cool and cute and awesome

Can I point out, that is Tumblr, and this is GoodReads?
I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but that is comparing apples to oranges. One focuses on the digital universe, while this focuses on the written word, in all it's lovely variations.
Within those variations, there is much consistency, and I would be willing to wager that most who are opposed to this change (myself included) prefer traditional books, and as such, consistency over change.
Some see it is whining and complaining, others as voicing their opinion freely.
There is a reason this was my only social media choice. Mainly, it was unlike the other sites. The changes make this site appear sterile and unfriendly in its attempt to become modern and connected with other social media.
So, while you are comfortable with the changes, please understand that not everyone is. It is not about slavery, or expecting anyone to cater to a single opinion, but rather the adaption of a community unaccustomed to change.

I didn't mean it that way. I do understand people who do not like it/have trouble with it, and I'm 100% in favor of them voicing those. The only thing I'm complaining about is people who are being rude while doing so.
If I was mentioning Tumblr in particular (aside from the fact that @Syc did so), it's because over there, it's like... a common thing to be rude/impolite (it makes you popular sometimes, what I still don't get after years using it), while I thought it was different here, because, like you said, different profiles.

yes! please update the Android app.!

Yes. Isn't that the essence of all website design?

Where is that setting?"
Fn (function key) + F4 on mine. Yours may be slightly different. I found it helps some. Hopefully it helps you as well!

THE ADS ARE BIGGER THOUGH WHATS WITH THAT or maybe they just look bigger because the print is so much smaller.
I just joined a few days ago but now not sure I'll stay

I have to agree. I just looked at the descriptions on Goodreads using the new font, and I had an instant headache!

You win the thread for that comment - spot on!

Now, if you will add the ability to post a book I've listed as read to a challenge thread....well, I will bow down to the techie gurus.....hehehe

It's also so small it looks like a microspeck of dust. I mean really, if you don't know it's there, you would never see it. (And I'm at 110% magnification.)

Edit. Checked the "compare books" section and the dot indicating a user's review is ridiculously small. It was bad before, but now it's practically indistinguishable.

I think if a change needed to be made, better choices should also have been made.
