Brenda Verstraete My challenge in 2021 was 60 and I was a little short. This year I’m still striving for 60 but will reevaluate mid-year. Love this app for too many reasons to add here!

message 152: by Bassie_bookworm (new)

Bassie_bookworm I didn't reach my target last year but that was on me. I had waaay too much going on. But this year, I started at the very beginning. I've finished a book I started last year, finished one I started first week of Jan and I listened to an audiobook. Currently busy with another. Let's keep pushing

message 153: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Goodbody I was overly ambitious in 2021 so am aiming for 75 books, instead of 80.

message 154: by Flora (new)

Flora Since my yearly reading includes some quick reads like children's books and manga, my goal for the year is 100!

Sue Steele Jasmine wrote: "I always set my goal at 25 books, which some years is a struggle to achieve. I will then increase that goal throughout the year if it looks like I will surpass that. Last year I read a lot (althoug..."

Great attitude!

message 156: by Ash (new)

Ash I’ve aimed for 80 so far!

message 157: by Kira (new)

Kira I plan on reading 100. A good, strong, simple goal. I never really worry about it until November or December.
The calendar strategy doesn’t really help me since I read books from 200 - 700 pages, and they can take different amounts of time depending on my schedule.

message 158: by Jayne (new)

Jayne I don't think reading should be a competition for adults. It is 2022, so my goal is 22 books which is fine for someone retired like me, but before I retired, I read maybe 5 books a year and that's ok, too. I enjoy lots of other things, as well, painting, writing, coloring, drawing, crafts, baking, cooking, and the list goes on, so too much reading takes away from those things and makes me less productive.

Nicole Normand Ruqayyah wrote: "Arjun wrote: "Going 365 this year"

Wow! Really!?"

One year I was checking the challenges and saw a woman that had read 700+ books. I was curious so I checked her stats - her average pages was 15. Well, at that # I can read 10-20 a day.

message 160: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I didn't reach my goal last year of 350 so this year I set my goal at 325. I've read that in past years. I've started a new hobby and it keeps me from reading some need to reach a balance :-)

message 161: by Nicole (last edited Jan 22, 2022 12:17PM) (new)

Nicole Normand I always start my challenge at 150, then once I read over that and we're still much around mid-year, I'll up it up again. I'll do that a few times, especially like in 2021 I ended-up at 239 or 2016 at 275. I also choose a challenge from a blog (different each year) and this year -2022- is the first time I committed to the blog instead of going on my own and not telling anyone. There are 50 books to read. As of today, I've read 23 books total, 15 as a choice, and 8 for a review, and 4 for the challenge mixed in there. Not bad so far.

Nicole Normand Hamish wrote: "I’m aiming for 69 books"

Might be hard to attain. Last year you read 17 books and this year you put your challenge at 31 ...

message 163: by Carla (new)

Carla My goal for this year is 72 books and I've already read 10 so far, but, no pressure to even reach that goal. I'll adjust it as I go, since I might hit a hard reading slump like I did last year. I didn't want to read for 4 whole months. Ugh.

Also, does anyone else not like audiobooks? When I was in school, the teachers used to read out loud to us and I hated that. My mind would wander a lot. I've tried audiobooks out over the last decade, but, it's still the same. If I don't read it, then, I'm not listening. Just wanted to know, if anyone else, just can't seem to listen to books or am I just odd?

Nicole Normand Satu wrote: "I always wonder how many books people actually read vs. pledge. Last year 309 million books were pledged, on the average of 53 books/person. Where can I find information on how many were completed?"

I was curious too and I checked the challenge page and there's nothing. Only the pledge numbers not the results.

Could we ask for it?

Nicole Normand Chris wrote: "Every year I always kind of wish that the Reading Challenge was based on the number of pages you want to read rather than the number of books. I always think that every year there must be a sizeabl..."

I don't agree. 1. The numbers are too high and would discourage people and 2. Goodreads doesn't keep the real page count of books correctly. 3. Most people don't choose a book by the number of pages.
I post page count errors weekly - sometimes the librarians will fix it, sometimes they won't.

message 166: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Normand Nat wrote: "hello my goal is 5000 books and it says i’m on track but i didn’t read one book so far, is this going to be ok?"

You're cheating the system and upping the numbers for fun????
You pledge 900 books in 2021 and read one. You're pledging 5000 this year and you're in between 2 books.

message 167: by Daniel Pertuz (new)

Daniel Pertuz I did 120/100 last year but don't think I'll repeat it (or try). Didn't read anything over 400 pages until after I reached 100. The bad thing is you put emphasis on quantity over quality. This year I'll just read whatever I want and try and reach 60.

message 168: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Normand Helen wrote: "How do you add books that you have read to your challenge as I have said I’ve read the book but it’s not adding on my challenge only the book on my kindle .
Many thanks"

Find the book on GR and then add a finished date.

message 169: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I started Reading Challenge in 2012 with 12 books & then onwards 13, 14, 15, etc until 2020 when I read 46 books; it must have been the lockdowns! I reached my goal for 21 so this year 22 & will see how it goes depending on reality and life .. so good luck to everyone, enjoy the relaxation, the journey!

message 170: by Janet McMillan (new)

Janet McMillan I read 158 books last year. 8 over my goal. I am trying for 175 this year.

message 171: by Caleeanna (new)

Caleeanna Moore I’m aiming to read around 1000 books because last year I read around 60 books per month depending on my mood

message 172: by Judy (new)

Judy I set my goal last year at 100 and got to 126. I’ve set it at 125 this year…we will see how it goes!

message 173: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Normally I would set my reading goal at 100 and although I usually met or exceeded it, sometimes it was a little intimidating. So this year I went for 22. I know that I'm going to exceed that goal by a lot so that's even more of an incentive. Plus I'm already at 6 books for this year so pretty soon my challenge will be completed!

message 174: by Lisa (new)

Lisa I’m doing 22 in 2022. I did 21 in 2021.

message 175: by Erin Marie (new)

Erin Marie My reading goal has been set to 30 books the last few years and I've even gone over it last year.

message 176: by Beckimoody (new)

Beckimoody Moody I did 100 this year. I logged 77 last year and I know there were a bunch I didn't write down. My one piece of advice is not to be afraid to drop a book if you just can't get into it. There are way too many good books to waste time on something you don't like. Maybe you will come back to it (happens to me a lot) or not but its ok. My sister hates reading partly because she was forced to read things she didn't like and never actually read a book for fun.

message 177: by Andreas Marteng (new)

Andreas Marteng I usually try to read 10% of a book pr. day which makes it 10 days pr. book, but I have a goal of two books pr. month. This gives me some wiggle-room if there are days I don't make the 10%.

message 178: by Karen (new)

Karen Helen wrote: "I can't believe some peoples targets are 50 plus. That is seriously impressive. I'll be impressed if I can read 15!"

You picked a number that is good for you. Good luck!

message 179: by Sky (new)

Sky I'm half way through my 4th book out of 50 books this year. I'm counting my work books as well (reading two — 5 & 6 in a sense).

message 180: by Grace (new)

Grace Karen wrote: "I think I was over ambitious because I plan to read some really big books/classics, so I a will decrease the numbers of books."

Maybe set a page goal like 10,000!

Darica Arjun wrote: "A book a day keeps worries at bay"

How? I don't understand how you can read a book a day?

message 182: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd Fassett I wish I could switch to the number of pages, better yet the number of words, as opposed to books. I have some bigger ones that would make me look like a slacker, such as Shelby Foot's 3 volume, 3,000 page / 1,200,000 word" Civil War Trilogy.

It would also help me abandon books that I'm not up to / understanding or disliking and still get some credit toward a goal.

Nicole Normand Darica wrote: "Arjun wrote: "A book a day keeps worries at bay"

Easy, you just sit down and read the whole thing. If they are short, like 150, you can read two a day.

message 184: by FoxtailBlondie (new)

FoxtailBlondie My goal is 33 books this year that’s 2.75 books per month, I’m onto my fourth book already, may have to adjust my goal. 😂

message 185: by Carole (new)

Carole I have multiple books going at the same time. That way I can finish more books and avoid reading slumps.

message 186: by Megen (new)

Megen I am sure I have done better in the past than my file shows....but I just didnt remember to update GoodReads. Now I am retired and I live for my fitbit and goodreads

message 187: by Paula (new)

Paula Fulkerson I now have a job where I can read at work between customers. In the past I was so exhausted from work, I'd be lucky to read a paragraph before dozing off. I've set a goal of 12, but feel like I'm going to exceed it.

What is quality? The only quality that should matter is enjoyment!

message 192: by chev ۫ ꣑ৎ (new)

chev ۫ ꣑ৎ Join me to read more romance novels :)

message 193: by Julie (new)

Julie Ounanian I up my goal by 2 books each year. This year I’m aiming for 62. I read a book and listen to an audio book in my car. This helps to make my goal.

message 194: by Martic (new)

Martic Last year I could only read the last 6 months of the year, so I picked 30 books for my goal. I only read 27, but in the long run, I felt I was trying to compete with myself so I ran through the books to meet my goal. Not this year, though. I love reading and want to enjoy the story, so this year I'm giving myself 10 days to read a book and no pressure. I want to savor the story and take time to think about it. Just enjoy time in the book with the settings, characters, etc. No more high goals just to say I read so many books. I also keep a book beside me when I'm watching TV in the evening. Do you realize how many minutes long the commercial breaks are?! I can read 5 or 6 minutes or more during each break. That's 20 minutes or more of reading in every hour-long program. Happy reading, everyone.

message 195: by Vonetta (new)

Vonetta I was trying for 400 last year, but I didn't make it. I will try for 350 and so far, I am doing pretty darn good with reading. Will I make it? we shall see. I have a lot on my TBR and the Amazon Unlimited program doesn't help with trying to get through the TBR. It just adds to it.

message 196: by Emily (new)

Emily I always end up making a goal that is too ambitious. This year I signed up for a monthly book box (Unplugged) would highly recommend! So...with that in mind my goal this year is 12 books and anything beyond that makes up for previous years of not meeting my reading goals. Lol

message 197: by Rajorshi (new)

Rajorshi Mukherjee Last year I could barely get any additional reading done beyond my curriculum. Had a tough time getting a job in the rona market and that took away most of my free time. I was always hustling and exploring. This year I have a bit more stability. I am not aiming for much. Just 15 books this year. I'm being realistic with myself this year and see where I land.

message 198: by MagicDave (new)

MagicDave Every year since 2019, I have tried to set a goal of a certain amount of books read, increasing it by 5 books a year. This year's goal is 40. Life being what it is, I am already lagging a bit behind. Have to push a little harder!

message 199: by Sour (new)

Sour Khadija I'm aiming for 20 books this year .

message 200: by Naz (new)
