The last book I read, I really hated, which put me in a reading slump. I'm hoping to get back into it by rereading one of my old favourites. I haven't been able to meet my reading goals for at least three years in a row, even as I keep setting lower and lower goals for myself :(

I have a 150 books for this year, but if I get to and still have time left then I will change the number I love the Goodreads Reading Challenge but have never thought of including Audio Books - great idea.

My problem is that I am writing books as well as reading them. Good writing, IMHO, requires good reading. After fluctuating wildly for several years on my reading goals, I have found 25 to be a realistic goal. Sometimes I do better, but that usually cuts into writing time. Now if only I could count the books I write into my book counts as well (although that's only one or two a year).
My goal is 200 books. I made it to 204 last year. My biggest tip would be put reading on your to do list. See it as a thing that has to be done not a reward. My other tip would be to use all the waiting time during the day. I always read during soccer practice, taking people to appointments, waiting for something to cook. People stare at their phones endlessly read instead. Also, tv can suck up hours of your day.
I will read 150 books this year as I have achieved 100 books per year since 2016 except one year when I read only 40.
Don't be afraid to not finish a book. I tried to make myself finish one and it REALLY made me get out of the reading spirit. Dump it if it's tough. You can always try again another time. Enjoy what you're reading!
How much you read is secondary; it's why you read, what you read, and how you read. I read to fall asleep; so I've been reading the same book each year.
As a middle school library assistant, I have my built in system to help me reach my goal. I read the 35 - 40 titles that are nominees for the Volunteer State Book Award so I can recommend them to students. Plus, I enjoy middle grade and young adult fiction. Then I fill in with books of my choosing. This year my librarian and I are challenging ourselves to read some classics. I can usually read at least 60 books in a year. Easy ways are to read at lunch and while a passenger in a car. I listen while walking the dog and driving.
My goal for 2022 is 15, up from the 12 I used to do.
Last year I got to 59 with a goal of 52 but mostly over the course of the last three months of the year. This year I’m taking it slow and don’t know if I’ll extend my goal past one, but I’m definitely still reading plenty of books.
hello my goal is 5000 books and it says i’m on track but i didn’t read one book so far, is this going to be ok?
I read 174 last year. This year shooting for 120 as I was on a streak last year of Sherlock Holmes books many of which were short stories so that drove the count up. As the year progresses I can up the number if i am ahead.
How do you add books that you have read to your challenge as I have said I’ve read the book but it’s not adding on my challenge only the book on my kindle . Many thanks
Last year was the first year I didn’t meet my goal of 33 books and was several short. I have kept it the same this year hoping that there won’t be so many DNFs ( DId not finish) on the personal list I keep in addition to the list on Goodreads that only has finished books. There were many books that were duds for me last year… a lot of “too”s as reasons for abandonment…too wordy, characters too unlikeable, plot too meaningless, etc. I read 240 pages of one book and stopped reading when I realized I didn’t care how the book ended. This year has started off with a bang…four good books in a row. Yippee!
Plenty of short stories help me through the difficult times I get but audiobooks will be a big player for me
Slow reader here! I added a book to my last year's total to help kick it up a notch. So this year I will try to get 7 books!
I try a every other day. I read 15 books already and almost finished 16 book plus I read epilogue that couldnt record because that not goodreads or Amazon. They were a link after I read a book
I'm an eclectic reader, so my genre choices are based upon whatever reflects my interests. My advice in setting a reading goal for 2022, is open your heart in expanding new worlds then let your mind take flight within those pages. Their is no "correct" way or process to complete this task, because only you can make it happen.
I blew my reading goal out of the water last year started off with 45 books ended up upping the number to 85 and read 96
I managed to read 26 books last year, thanks Goodreads for keeping me motivated and on track. I Included 4 kids books that I read with my son because I wanted to write reviews about them too. I’m aiming at 30 this year!
My biggest issue will be finances, I will reach 100 books this year but not much more because I can't afford more 😂 My library doesn't have many English language books 😅
I'm aiming for the same as the last 2 years. 120. I read a lot of graphic novels and kids books. And I've done it before, so it feels doable. Now if only I can pull of the Read Harder challenge again (which I totally flubbed last year)
I’m on my 11th book of 2022 so far. This is my normal reading rate. I’ve never counted over a year before, so I’m using Goodreads as a tracker to see what happens. My tip is reading on a Kindle/tablet. I read in bed and using a device means I don’t keep my husband awake with the lamp.Currently reading:

I suggest to not exagerate. Be realistic looking into your duties, your routine. After that you can set a goal you can reach. I choose 12 books, one per month, I think for most would be possible. ;)
In addition to reading my favorite authors/genres (mystery, thriller, crime), but to stretch myself I read for 2 book clubs where the choice of books wasn't what I usually read. In 2021 I set a low (for me) goal of 50 since I knew I would be moving and packing and unpacking takes time. As it turns out I moved twice in 2021, the second move involving a 60 mile round trip with each carload of "stuff". I always carry a book or e-reader with me and use any amount of wait time to read. I also read while making dinner - there's plenty of time when you're just waiting for the next step - I read. In 2021 I upped my challenge twice from 50 to 60 to 75 and finished the year with 80 books.I take notes when I listen to an audio book while doing quilting projects because I'm a visual person so I need to "see" the words I hear.
Carolyn wrote: "I read every day, listen to my Kindle while I'm working, etc and every chance I get. My goal this year is 750 books."How do you manage to do anything but read?
My first time doing the challenge after being a member of a book group that meets monthly for the past 26 years! I set my goal for 24 this year, but since I'm on a roll I've raised it to 36. I'm retired now, so maybe more!
Mazzy wrote: "I'm aiming for 21 (1 every two weeks)"Mazzy, 1 every 2 weeks would be 26. There are 52 weeks in a year. 52 / 2 = 26.
Phillip wrote: "Excellent suggestions. I treasure Goodreads, but I have one significant disagreement with its “official” policy regarding reading books: audiobooks should not count as “reading.” Reading is a skill..."It most certainly is not true that listening is not a skill and takes as much work as scrolling through Netflix, and even more wildly untrue is that we don't remember what we hear. If you are putting the same amount of work into an audiobook as you are looking for a movie title, your comprehension of the book will suffer because of your own choice to not engage with what you're hearing.
Consider that going into an audiobook with the mindset that it takes zero skill will prove that thought true, especially if you're a college student being assigned a book and want to get it over with as soon as possible. Those test scores seem a reflection of the students' mindsets, not the medium itself. Remember also that Goodreads is more focused on promoting reading for pleasure and not on academic reading. The latter is of course known for being more challenging to engage with no matter the format.
I read 200 last year and I am trying to do it again this year. Definitely recommend listening to audiobooks as well as reading to accomplish larger goals.
36 was my completed goal last year. Feels daunting this year. I’m still on book #1. I will just go with a plan to read every day for 30 minutes. Seems more doable
