48 Reader Recommendations for Perfect Autumn Books

For those of us north of the equator, it's time for chilly days, long nights, and plenty of time to cozy up with a new book–or book series.
If you're in a cooler climate–or just looking to chill out with a book that summons the season–this time of year presents the perfect opportunity to crack open a nail-biting whodunit or escape to another time and place.
We recently asked our readers to recommend the books they like to nestle in with during the autumnal months. Carrie–or anything by Stephen King, Frankenstein, and Dracula are still staples for horror and Halloween. Ray Bradbury's The Halloween Tree, Sherlock Holmes, and Agatha Cristie, a.k.a the Queen of Mystery, also came up multiple times as great reads to put you in the mood for darker days.
But if you're looking to spend some serious time with beloved characters, this is a great time to fall into a series! Alice Hoffman has just delivered her final installment of her Practical Magic books. Based on a true story, Cilka's Journey is the second of The Tattoo Artist of Auschwitz series, and The Madness of Crowds is the latest problem for Inspector Ganache to tackle in his much-loved adventures.

The Poisonwood Bible is so good!

Night circus and Pumpkinheads are very good fall reads. And so is The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding.
I read ‘The taxidermist’s daughter’ by Kate Mosse a few years ago around Halloween and it was a really great spooky read.
Hazel Bee wrote: "I have read only The Poisonwood Bible & I'm due for a reread."Yes, I want to re-red it as well -- it was a geat book!
I'm in the Southern Hemisphere, but it is so cold & windy, I could be up in the North!I'm glad to see older releases on this list.
The three books on it have read, I couldn't recommend to anyone though.
Still hoping to get to The Poisonwood Bible & The Song of Achilles. Maybe next year.
Just about done with Razorblade Tears and it's the best book I've read all year. A must-read for sure.
I’m currently reading Poisonwood Bible and it doesn’t seem very autumnal to me. But I suppose the Congo is still worth mentioning for their seasons? 🤨
I'd recommend This Poison Heart for fall YA reading. Greek mythology, the Secret Garden and Little Shop of Horrors get thrown in a blender and becomes something spooky, gothic, and wonderfully fun.

A good selection of books. I have some book tokens to spend and now I have some more ideas on what books to buy.
