Rudy Dankwort IMO most mystery writers since agatha christie are boring (not that she can't be boring sometimes also). But I've tried the best-known contemporary ones & am bored to death, Can't even finish most of them.

For example, a serial killer novel could easily be written by a computer. No need for a plot, no need for credible rationales, no nothing..

My question to you all: where is the next "Gone Girl"? A masterpiece, can't wait to read it for the 3rd time.

I do like megan miranda - at least her novels are not cheap shots like those of most others.

Would appreciate any advice ("jump in the lake" not acceptable).

J Hohneker These may be great but I think you are missing a bunch of new releases from excellent writers: Don Bentley's The Outside Man, Jack Carr's The Devil's Hand and Chris Hauty's Savage Road. And this is just the first half of the year.
