A contagious frisson spread around the room and Mark was not immune to it. The CEO and founder of Horizon Inc., Carol Sullivan, was nicknamed Wicked Witch of Wall Street for good reasons. She was a stock market high-roller whose opponents, and even a few colleagues, would frequently describe as cut-throat.
As if on cue, the door opened and Ms. Sullivan marched into the meeting room, personal assistant right on her heels carrying a pile of folders haphazardly stacked up in her arms. Mark felt sorry for Julie, the assistant, who sported a pair of suspicious looking tracks down her cheeks. Combined with a red nose and puffy eyes, the marks suggested a recent bout of crying. So recent, Julie didn’t have time to cover them up before following her boss inside a room packed full of her co-workers, leaving everyone’s imagination to fill in the blanks and work out her reasons for crying. Safest bets comprised anger, frustration and self-doubt. If he were a gambler, he would put his money on the last one.
Mark’s blood boiled at the unfairness of the situation. Nobody had the right to make another person cry, especially not in the work place, certainly not if one was the other person’s boss. His defiant gaze met Ms. Sullivan’s and his world tilted when he found himself on the receiving end of a once-over as he had never experienced before. He caught sight of a glint of appreciation in her brown eyes, but her no-nonsense expression, complemented by the stern-looking tight bun that tamed her red curls, prevented him from believing his eyes. His treacherous body didn’t get the message as it reacted to her self-confidence. The submissive in him connected to Ms. Sullivan’s authoritative presence in a way he hadn’t felt in a long time. Probably never, if he were to be honest. Gone was the sympathy he just felt for Julie, substituted by envy. A person had a chance to work close to a dynamo such as Carol, he or she should hang on to it and never let go.
Although that wasn’t the first time he crossed paths with Ms. Sullivan, after all they had been working in the same office for three years, it was the first time her blatantly dominant gaze was directed straight at him. Hi all! I was born and raised in Brazil and lived there for fifty years until I moved to the United States in 2015 for my Master’s program. Although Portuguese is my native language, I write in English. I have translated a couple of short-stories to Portuguese, but the bulk of my work was originally created in English. Go figure!
Hello and welcome! Let's get started. How long have you been a writer and how did you come to writing?I started writing in 2013 almost as a dare. I didn’t think I’d be any good at it, to be honest. Then, one of my first short-stories started getting five-star reviews and I got excited about it. The feedback gave me enough confidence to keep writing and improving my craft.
How did you come up with this storyline?So, that short-story that everyone was talking about in 2014 gave me the idea for my first novel. It’s still one of favorite stories, so when I got into the Rapid Pulse Anthology, I knew it would be a good match. So, I wrote a kind of prequel to Upside Down, the novel. In Upside Down, there is an unconventional love triangle with an even more unconventional resolution. Boss, my contribution to Rapid Pulse, is the story of how two sides of that triangle got to meet and develop their relationship.
What are the best and the worst aspects of writing? One of the best aspects of writing is getting to know the characters. I love the fact that, even when I plot out a whole story, when I get to actually write it, the characters sometimes hijack it from me. Often enough, they also run away with it. I feel like I’m sitting there watching a movie. It’s amazing. One of the aspects I like the least is editing because I want to change so many things. Every time! It can get quite frustrating at times.
What inspires you to write? It will sound cheesy, but it’s the truth. I want to write the stories that I would love to read.
How did you conduct your research for **Boss**? Most of the background story I had researched when I wrote the novel. This time, I used the internet to refresh my memory about some details, especially how the global crisis came about during the early 2000’s. My brother is a stock broker and I tried my hand for a couple of months some years ago, so I still remember how the stock market functions. I didn’t need to do much research on that. For the sex club parts, I thought about going to one just to check my facts. I’d rather not disclose what I decided on that. You should read the story and guess.
What are 3 of your favorite quotes from **Boss**? “The lukewarm embers in her golden eyes didn’t burn him. And Mark yearned to be scorched. He was searching for wildfire sparks like the ones he got every time he locked eyes with Carol.”
“Hope I got the year right.” She was establishing she had ordered the drink for him, as if he needed clarification.“I’m sure you did. The bartender knows me well.”“Your assumption being I asked for anyone’s opinion, correct?”God, I missed her. Apparently, so did his cock. It stirred to life at an almost painful speed.Sitting down, he leaned into her personal space and whispered in her ear, “I’d never assume anything about you.”
His world tilted then turned upside down. Did he hear her right? Did Carol Sullivan, his lady boss, just inform him she was going to fuck him, in the most literal sense of the word?   What would your friends say is your best quality? Loyalty.
Are reader reviews important to you? Why?Yes. Even though I don’t reply to them anymore, for lack of time, I still try to read as many as I can. I find that their feedback can become quite useful when I think about the audience I am trying to reach with my work. In my grad school research, I have been studying the writing process. An author who claims that he or she writes solely for his or her own benefit, in my opinion, is fooling himself or herself. Human beings write primarily for communication purposes, so considering the audience is part of the process. Even if it’s unconscious.
What do you do when you don’t write? Like in “Real Life”I translate, teach English to speakers of other languages and conduct creative writing workshops with kids.
Tell us about your other books? Upside Down is my first full length novel, where Carol and Mark meet Cindy and have their lives changed forever. It is a hot F/F/M love triangle with a very unconventional resolution. Luck of the Irish is my first attempt at a non-erotic story. I failed totally because it’s still quite steamy, but the novel also has a suspense element to it. Finally, Declan is the first book boyfriend I created. Celtic Fire is my third novel and the first historical/paranormal title I wrote. It’s heavily inspired by Mists of Avalon and all things Celts, a culture that I adore, by the way. I love rock music, I follow tons of bands, so a series about a rock band has always been in my plans. Knight’s Edge is a series of standalone novels and I’m very happy with the first installment, Tristan. It’s in a boxed set called Tropical Tryst. Noah is book 2 and releases in mid-October. 1.   When did you start writing?
I’ve enjoyed writing for many moons; since I was a kid. But I didn’t start writing seriously till I was a teenager. I wrote my 1st screenplay in Jr. High and my first vampire romance too.  I read my vampire romance recently and it was terrible! Just trite dialogue and plot holes, but hey, you gotta start somewhere, right? Fast forward into adulthood, I used to find excuses on why I couldn’t write. Always excuses…the sins of being a grown-up. Always think you have more time, right?  When my brother suddenly passed away (also a writer—but with no excuses), I got inspired to complete my stories and stop making excuses. That was 2 years ago and the one positive thing from losing someone so dear to me. Now with 4 completed books, I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon! I love to write, because I’m a storyteller.You can ask anyone and they’d tell you.  Water cooler talks ain’t got nothing on me ;)
2.   What makes your stories unique?Coming from a household and family that’s male majority, I love featuring strong female characters to support the hero. She’s fallible, real and may not always have the right motive, but she can make her own way.  It’s a big deal to me since I grew up in a feminist household (believe it or not) There’s a partnership in the best romance stories. When you take two people and have them compliment each other, that’s when you’ve got a good thing in the works.  My heroine can’t be strong all the time—that’s when she needs her man to run interference ;)  I think you’ll get a lot of that in my stories. Lots of voids being filled! (that probably came out wrong!)
3.   Is there a common thread that runs through your books?Being different would be my most common theme in my current stories and in thinking about it; I guess it says a thing or two about me.  I’ve always been a bit different and the best compliment I ever get from my friends is that I take people as they are.  Acceptance (though we don’t like to admit it) is a great feeling. It really matters to us when the people we care about don’t see us in the light we want to be seen in. And in a world where being different is soooo hard, there’s always a story there.  My characters will always be a “freak among the freaks”. Someone a bit off and trying to find their own piece of happiness in a tough world that I create that challenges them to embrace that difference.  Or better yet, their love interest accepting that unique spirit. I hope my readers don’t get tired of that!
4.   If money was of no concern, what would you envision as your perfect lifestyle? (where would you live, what would you do all day, etc.)Ah…I could see it now.   I’m watching the crystal clear water rush up and crash little cool waves against my feet.  My toes rub across the white sands as I sit under my palapa. In my hand is my Kindle. To my left is my laptop when I get the need to write. Time for another drinky-poo. Where is that cabana boy, I mean, my hubby? I look for a watch, but none exists. What time is it? Who cares? There’s no schedule to keep. Time doesn’t matter here.  What matters is that the sun is warm, the sky is always blue and the Bahama Mamas never stop flowing! Eh, life is good.
5.   Besides writing, what things are you most passionate about?
I’m a HUGE Minecraft fan (if you’re on Xbox, let a girl know) I adore photography and have my wedding photography business on hiatus as I write.  Of course, cooking is a big passion of mine and happy to share some recipes for the foodies out there. 6.   Not limited to writing, what do you believe to be some of your greatest accomplishments so far?I would say that my biggest accomplishment is my entrepreneurship.  I love running a business and having the independence to shape the course of it. I can’t say that all of it has gone off without a hitch, but it is those events that made me tougher and ready to face the bigger challenges.  That and publishing my 1st book…those two things felt more awesome than anyone could imagine.

She was infectious, and it felt bizarre yet comforting to have her in his home, curled up on his sofa. He wasn't used to company, but she seemed to fit right in. He took a sip of warm blood from his mug."Okay, Hunter. I'll give in because you came clean with me earlier. Three questions about me and I'll answer. Even if his wolf didn't come forward, they were the color of a spring river hurrying to the ocean—bright with swirls of lighter and darker shades mixed in. His angular jaw and Prince Charming smile sets butterflies off in her stomach.
Going from town to town has never left Dez with many opportunities to have relationships, but fucking is one way she burns off her excess energy. Especially since her animals never get to run anymore.

Taking a deep breath, he looks to the dance floor, but she isn't there. His wolf is panicking, causing him to sweat and start pacing. He sees two members of his pack enter. Glancing down, he notices she already opened her jacket to reveal her boobs, took off her pants, yet left her hood on. Not able to focus on the last part too long with a naked woman in front of him, he growls, "Maybe I should apologize."Without waiting for a reply, he steps forward, dominating her mouth with his. He breathes in her scent, and she does the same to him. Author Spotlight:

Welcome to our Spotlight! How long have you been a writer and how did you come to writing? I have been a writer for a long time. I remember writing my first story in high school, not including little things over the years, but an actual story. Unfortunately, the computer crashed and I lost that story, but it was definitely the start on this path. I came to writing after reading so many books and always having different stories running through my head. I remember in grade 11, school just started after summer break and the teacher asked, “Who read this summer?” After seeing a couple hands he asked “Who read over 5 books this summer?” most hands went down. After changing the number he finally asked how many books did I read that summer and I said 102. He was so happy and congratulated me and informed the class the joys of reading. At the time I didn’t care, those who knew me knew how much I read, worked, and still had fun, so I didn’t care. But it definitely shaped my writing today. I don’t think I will ever forget that moment.
How did you come up with this storyline?   Honestly, I have issues with sleeping. I am that person who stays in that half awake half asleep stage for a while. One time that is what happened and I over saw this entire story one day before waking up. As soon as I woke up I ran to my desk to get the things I could remember down so I could make it into the story I envisioned.
What are the best and the worst aspects of writing? The best is by far telling the stories you are so excited for and seeing the way they grow and change. The worst word be my ability to believe in my writing. I have times while writing where I just think, wow this stuff is shit. But, I push through and always get to the end and realize as an author you are biased against your own work.
What inspires you to write?I am inspired to write by all the things I see everyday. I understand everyone has something they may not want to deal with in their life or maybe they just want to live in a little fantasy life. If I can do that, for even a short time, my goal is complete.
What are 3 of your favorite quotes from **Alpha's Surprise**? -Her musical laughs echo around the empty room. "Don't worry. You definitely didn't hurt me," she says, still smiling. Leaning forward, she gives him a kiss.
-"Hey, boss," Anthony says, eyebrows raised. "Everything alright?"Running a ruff hand across his stubble, he says, "Yeah. Why wouldn't it be alright?""Um, dude … you have to actually crack an egg in to the frying pan and turn it on for it to cook."
- Kane, expecting his wolf to growl, hears nothing. Just sees him preening around like a peacock. Kane huffs, causing another chuckle to escape Shawn's lips.  What would your friends say is your best quality? I would say either my willingness to help others or the ability to work so hard. If I can help someone, even if it means ten times more work, I will try as hard as I can to help them out.
Are reader reviews important to you? Why?Yes they are. I like to know what my readers think. I know I can’t please everyone, but if they have any constructive criticism to help me out, awesome. If they want to let me know how much they loved the series or if they want to know more about Dez, these are all things I want to know so I can plan accordingly when possible.
What do you do when you don’t write? Like in “Real Life”I proofread and edit books and create covers and graphics. But before all that I was a private investigator and Security guard while also being a dog groomer. A pretty random mix. lol
Tell us about your other books? Since I haven’t even been an author for a year, I don’t have many books out yet. I have a short story, Christmas Cinderella, in the Holiday Heartwarmers Anthology. It is a modern retelling of Cinderella which I plan to make into a full length novel. I also have Saved by Him, in the Billionaire Ever After Boxed set. It is about a woman finding strength after losing a lot and taking a chance on a man who isn’t who she thought he was. Then my other book is Chance Encounter, in the Falling for the Billionaire Boxed set. It is about a woman learning to trust and grow, while he learns to forgive, in hopes of a future that they both can live in.

None of these random facts brought about feelings of safety and security as she traveled abroad to meet her aunt on her biological mother’s side.The letter, the freaking destroy-a-simple-life letter, ranted on for two pages of a heartbreaking tale.

Thanks so much for having me here to visit. I’m appreciative of everyone who supports the romance reading/writing community.
We are so glad you are here! How long have you been a writer and how did you come to writing?I’ve been writing since I was a teen (and that’s a frighteningly long time ago!). I've always loved books and reading and in fact have a degree in Literature. Over the years my dabbling in writing became first a rather consuming hobby, and then a professional career as an author of erotic and sexy romance. My first release was with Red Sage Publishing back in December 2009, but these days I’m what is known as a hybrid author - with a mix of traditionally published and indie published titles, under the names Jennifer Lynne and Jen Katemi.
How did you come up with this storyline?Ménage stories come easily to me for some reason. I love the idea of pushing boundaries and taking my characters out of their comfort zone, and what better way than to challenge societal “norms” and add an extra person into the sexual mix? My ménage stories always include one woman and at least two men, as I love the idea of the woman being the center of attention and surrounded by sexy men who are all attentive to her needs. Sounds like heaven to me!
What are the best and the worst aspects of writing? It just feels right when I'm creating a story, if that makes sense? Like most people with a day job and family, I have limited writing time, but the days when I do write are the best. When the creative mojo is there and the words flow onto the page it’s a natural high. Conversely, the days when I sit in front of the laptop and nothing happens is the worst feeling. That's when I begin to doubt that I can do this “thing” called writing.            Where do you get your ideas? I suppose I subconsciously stockpile ideas from things I see in my everyday life – little actions, comments or looks that might inspire the creation of a character. Of course I get some inspiration from TV or movies. But primarily, my ideas for character seem to come from some deep well within my imagination. It is a really hard question for me to answer, actually, as I have been known to wake up in the night with a really clear sense of a new character for a story, and no idea where it came from. I guess dreams must also play a part.
What are three of your favorite quotes from Breaking the Rules?I love it all, of course! But here are three of my favorite bits, one for each of the main characters:
James: “I want that prime position between her legs. I want to feel that rhythmic pressure and squeeze against my cock. I want to take it all the way, driving deep into her channel to feel the tight pull as her vaginal muscles milk me for everything I have.”
Stacey: “Two guys, coming to my rescue. Two really fucking sexy guys, heading my way. My clit, a part of my body I thought long-dead, flickers to life with a throb. I hope they’re here to rescue me. I hope they’re not serial killers.”
Teale: “I almost punch him in the face when I find out he’s ordered some of her soap online … Now we both smell like Stacey, all fresh lemon and eucalyptus, and it’s driving me even more insane. We’re taking showers at all times of the day and night, lathering up with her goddamn soap so we can get a visceral whiff of the woman in the only way we can. Via her delicious scented product that evokes tantalizing memories of our entwined rutting bodies every time I move.”
Do you plot your books ahead of time or are you more of an “organic” writer? I'm definitely not a plotter. I tried it once, but it stifled the creative process for me, and that particular story fizzled out to nothing. So now I concentrate on building a strong sense of the characters and their initial struggle or conflict, and I kind of plot as I go along. To be honest, it’s the characters who usually take me on the journey rather than the other way around.
Are reader reviews important to you? Why?Oh yes, without a doubt! I write so that others will enjoy the stories I create. Sometimes I’m hugely successful at that, and sometimes not so much. Getting a good review on something I’ve worked hard at, puts a smile on my face for days. Literally, for days! The only way we know that people have read (and hopefully enjoyed!) our work is if someone leaves a review. So yes. To me, reviews are vital.
What three ingredients do you consider an absolute necessity to writing a hot sex scene?A physical connection between the characters – the sexual chemistry – is a must. But above and beyond that, an emotional connection adds something special and transforms a standard sex scene into one that is far more meaningful. Finally, I’d say an element of fun.
Go-to snack when writing?Cheese and crackers, and either coffee (during the day) or wine (in the evening).
What do you do when you don’t write? Like in “Real Life”?In “real life”, I’m a mum of two, step-mum of two, a wife and a slave to various cats. I work in admin at a university in my home town of Melbourne, Australia, and while I do enjoy my day job, writing is my passion. If I could afford it financially, I’d write all hours of the day and night! For relaxation I love to read - pretty much any genre except horror. My ideal weekend away would be somewhere peaceful with a spa, an open fire, a nice bottle of wine, a good book, and rolling green hills outside.
