Deciding Not to Upload Future Books on Goodreads
Angel M.B. Chadwick
I've decided any future books I have released I will not be uploading here on Goodreads, because I don't like the system in which readers are allowed to review books here meaning, they are allowed to rate a book and give no review, which is a waste of my time and theirs if they just rate the book.
Also I don't like the fact that people if they give a low rating are allowed to bash the author here and other social media sites, instead of just giving their singular opinion and leave it at that and not spread it nastily all across the board, let other readers have the freedom to decide for themselves.
Those are just a few of the reasons why. I will however post samples of my books on Wattpad and the full published versions will be on other online participating stores like Amazon, B&N, Booksamillion, to name a few. I didn't work 25 years writing and perfecting my craft to deal with foolish readers.
So for future reference I'm not going to leave myself open to them or their prejudices. I do thank those who gave honest and constructive reviews on my previous book I already have here on Goodreads.
I will upload here on Goodreads, future poetry books and short story anthologies and maybe a nonfiction book or two as for any of my fictional works not a chance, not on Goodreads.
When my fictional works are released I will make an announcement on my blog and on certain groups where I'm allowed to post here.
*Future mental note: If you don't like the content of my books, do us both a favor and don't continue to read it, don't review it or rate it. It's just unnecessary and a waste of both our time.

I'm Tired of Facebook Unfollowers
Angel M.B. Chadwick
I'm sick and tired of Facebook unfollowers. Do not follow me on Facebook if you are not a fan of my books or have read at least one of my books I've written. My Facebook page is an author page I cannot follow you back. Facebook restrictions not mine. I turned my personal Facebook page into an author page. Only follow me, if you follow me on Goodreads or have read/or reviewed my book and want updates on my future books and/or contests I'm posting on my Facebook page. For those of you who are true fans of my work. Follow me here on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/angel.chadwi...

My Experience with Beta Readers
Angel M.B. Chadwick
I've decided to not use more than one beta reader. I've had too many betas reading and critiquing my novel "Weeping Well." There is a such thing as too many cooks in the kitchen and of course that causes chaos because everyone has different opinions and sometimes those opinions clash with other beta readers. I tried to follow their suggestions, opinions, etc. making those corrections, but, it just ended up a total mess.
It was like having too many voices in my head and it was causing me great distress. I decided to let multiple betas read my work to get an overall feel, sort of a preview of what my readers would think of my novel after it's released. I was obviously overzealous with this idea.
Also I had many of the betas, (except for one Deb Rhodes her website is:
http://debdobalina.wixsite.com/better...
who I will definitely use again) were not familiar with the material or subject matter such as cultural, colloquial terms, my writing style, spelling, grammar from particular regions, etc.
I think betas need to research the material and subject matter, etc. of the author's work, even biographical things about the author because that also plays a part in the author's written work, ask the author about biographical things that aren't mentioned in their Goodreads Author bios, before writing the final report of the critique of the author's work.
Also all the betas, (except for Deb Rhodes) were not thorough with their critiques of my novel, if you find inconsistencies in my novel give me a detailed and very thorough report of all the inconsistencies and errors don't just name a few and be vague about the rest. It makes me as the author unable to thoroughly fix the problems.
Also the betas, (except for Deb Rhodes) were not consistent with keeping in contact with me. I would email them whether it was to ask a question or etc. and I would get no answer back. Also all the betas, (except for Deb Rhodes) misrepresented their skills and what they said they can do as betas on their websites, at least when they were critiquing my work.
Also when I told them specifically what I wanted done for my manuscript they failed to follow directions or maybe they forgot what I actually wanted done. This has been my experience with beta readers.

Happily Ever After Endings
Angel M.B. Chadwick
I don't like happily ever after endings. Let me tell you why, because I cannot relate to them. It's like trying to relate to drywall. I don't like formulaic books or formulaic characters because it's like trying to relate to drywall. Formulaic books, their formulaic characters and books with happy ever after endings are unrealistic to me and are always predictable. I always figure out easily what's going to happen in these types of books and I get easily bored with them.
The books on my Goodreads Bookshelf none of them are books I like to read. I only add them because mostly they are recommended to me and I add them because other people like to read them.
The books I like to read exist only when I write them. Those are the books I like to read and write. That being said I reviewed a lot of books and will continue to do so because it promotes the author and it promotes attention for the reader who may like that sort of book to possibly read it, review it, or purchase the book they love to read.
And also because I love books.
I also recommend the books I review and books of authors who've asked me to review their books but, I may be too busy to review at the time to potential readers who like that genre or may be open to exploring those type of books in other genres.
I don't necessarily want a book with a sad or depressed or cliffhanger ending, just one that's realistic and one I can relate to as a real human being and those who might read my upcoming new releases will get to see what kinds of books I like to read and what endings I'd like to see in books.

Message from an Experienced Author
Angel M.B. Chadwick
This is from advice I'd given a young aspiring author, I hope it helps others out there:
You don't have to have money to promote your book. I don't either. I promote it by particular groups on Goodreads that look for author's to promote their work. I put samples of my work on Wattpad to gain an audience there. I do a lot of interviews with bloggers who some of them also review the book.
Building buzz before your books initial release helps also. Networking and building a social connection works and social media is a part of that. But, I suggest you do this network building by sharing common interests with followers on Twitter and Facebook. I've found its better and it may eventually get you a sale or two. I have over a 1,700 Twitter followers and over 300 on Facebook. I talk about my book only a few times but, mostly talk about t.v. shows and movies I shared interest with other Facebook people or Twitter followers, which brings more interest to my Facebook and Twitter pages.
I've been in this writing/author business both on the traditional and indie side (I prefer the indie side by the way) for 25 years. A lot of it takes patience and perseverance. But, networking making connections with readers, bloggers and other authors on a down to earth level is the key. You can never stop networking it's the main thing that will keep you afloat in this business. Also if you make a promise to someone keep it.
That is rare in this business and its invaluable, and paramount. It's how I've been able to preserve and survive this business all these years because of my integrity to my readers, bloggers, and followers. I always keep my promises and I don't make a promise I can't keep.
Also the word "No" is a good procurer for you as a writer. It can keep you grounded and relevant when there are people demanding more than you feel you can handle. Also there will be haters don't let them discourage you.
A thick skin and an even thicker skin is needed for this business. It's how I've maintained my place in this writing/publishing world. Also be humble and keep your eye on the prize, run your own race.
