At 89 my father is the oldest and best preserved of his ten siblings. During Fathers Day I recalled this passage from Scripture: "He who honors his father atones for sins...He who honors his father is gladdened by children, and when he prays he is heard. He who reveres his father will live a long life...My son, take care of your father when he is old; grieve him not as long as he lives. Even if his mind fail, be considerate with him; revile him not in the fullness of your strength. For kindness to a father will not be forgotten."

There was a time when we had hundreds of local cigarette brands whose packaging provided a space to be catchy, creative, and sometimes patriotic. This one referring to freedom from the U.S. occupation is from the collection of Edward de los Santos.

In my Ayala Museum lecture on June 28 I will share a sense of how I do my work by going through Rizal's Writings. The manuscript of El Filibusterismo, for example, reveals Rizal's creative process. Here we see the final title of the First chapter but note that he considered beginning with the chapter on the "Lower Deck." The opening chapter introduces the cast of characters and he considered calling it "old acquaintances." Pls share.

Years ago, when I shook the hand of the Principe de Asturias in Madrid, it did not hit me that he would become Felipe VI some day. The Philippines (Pilipinas or Filipinas) after all got its name from the 16th century Felipe II (Philip II) and now after four centuries we are back with Phil VI.
