Serendipity on Good Friday. After washing the freshly cooked soba (buckwheat noodles) to remove the starch I put a brick of ice on it while tempura was cooking. I noticed the middle of the ice brick was not frozen so used it as a bowl for zarusoba! #ambethocampo #thefilipinohistorian #lookingback #AskAmbeth #soba #zarusoba #ice #japanesefood #noodles

When you go over the Stations of the Cross painted by the anonymous “Bohol Master” in the National Museum, focus on two significant details in this particular panel. First, bottom of the panel dates the work to 1830. Second, on the top is the often overlooked landscape in the background that represents the iconic Bohol “Chocolate Hills.” This charming work is loaned from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. #ambethocampo #thefilipinohistorian #AskAmbeth #lookingback #bohol #painting

Costumes worn during the Maundy Thursday commemoration of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples always reminds me of a 2008 trip to Zamboanga del Norte when I met the 13 Rizalista Elders who cared for the Rizal Shrine, Dapitan.
