Throwback Thursday: Benigno S. Aquino III was conferred the Supreme Order of the Chysanthemum by the Emperor of Japan during his State Visit. In 1944 his grandfather Benigno S. Aquino, Sr. was conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Aquino is shown here to the right of Jose P. Laurel and Jorge Vargas, all three wearing their Japanese decorations. Pls share.

Back in Tokyo researching on the residence of the Philippine Ambassador in Tokyo, that was Yoko Ono's childhood home. After light lunch I returned to the library and experienced a long strong earthquake. Bookshelves shook but nobody ducked under the desks or ran out screaming. Books fell off shelves in the upper floors but an announcement 12 minutes after the quake assured us evacuation was not necessary.

There is a rock in Rizal's Dapitan estate where he is alleged to have written his poem "Mi Retiro." The view from this rock today is the same view Rizal saw when he left Dapitan in 1896.
