Edith Nakpil Rabat who passed away in 2009 at age 74 is best remembered as the 1956 Miss Philippines who didn't compete in the Miss Universe contest. She served in the Batasan Pambansa and as Deputy Tourism Minister but those official positions are nothing compared to her history: Gregoria de Jesus, Lakambini of the Katipunan, was her lola; Julio Nakpil, KKK compiser her lolo; Juan Nakpil, National Artist for Architecture her father; Anita Noble Miss Philippines of 1926 her mother. Can anyone have more historical roots? The gown in this photo designed by Salvacion Lim Higgins or "Slim's" is now in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Pls share.

Many people do not know that Emilio Aguinaldo had two wives--not at the same time of course. His first was Hilaria del Rosario de Aguinaldo (c.1877-1921) who nursed the wounded during the revolution. She later set up the Hijas de la Revolucion (Daughters of the Philippine Revolution) and another association that later became the present-day Red Cross. She died of leprosy in March 1921 and Aguinaldo re-married in 1930. Pls share.

I used to collect prewar studio photos and postcards. This is one of my favorites. Poor woman bore five children, where is the prolific dad?

Would you pose with a 32-foot snake? A student brought such a snake to class once coiled in a gym bag I almost tripped over. I was shocked to learn the gym bag was usually deposited in the Library while the student attended afternoon classes!

Before the private screening of "Heneral Luna" I wanted to ask Robin Padilla for a "near famous" pic but my iphone camera froze. Was surprised when he introduced himself and asked for a selfie because he read my books to prepare for his Bonifacio film. Shared with thanks from Robin Padilla's page. Pls. share.
