Friday Fotos – San Francisco to Muir Woods Redux
I’m rerunning this post from 2016. Images from a field trip from San Francisco to Muir Woods. I didn’t have much in the way of camera equipment back then, and phone cameras (if I even had a phone with one) weren’t anything like what you can get today, so these had no post processing.
And, despite the bad lighting, an obligatory shot of the Golden Gate Bridge
And, this is the Lone Sailor Memorial
After this brief stop, it was on to the wood...

How are they Talking?
I’m over at the Kill Zone Blog today, talking about dialogue tags. What they are, what hey do, my personal preferences, and what bugs the heck out of me.
Come over and join the discussion.

Updates and Changes
There have been some changes going on behind the scenes here on my website. My web designer had been having personal issues, and when she disappeared, I had two choices. Learn how to do everything myself, or find a new web designer. For me, it was a no-brainer decision. The reason I hired designers in the first place was because I don’t know enough about what goes on under the hood, and I have no desire to spend the time learning how to make things run properly.
There’s a s...

Friday Fotos – Rita the Rock Planter
The Hubster and I took a field trip up to Victor, Colorado, to view Sculptor Thomas Dambo’s latest creation, Rita the Rock Planter. Using recyled materials, he creates magnificent creatures.
The story of Rita, according to Dambo, is this. “She took a nap back in the late 1800s and when she woke up here again, like a couple of weeks ago, she noticed a couple of small holes in the mountain,” Dambo said with a smile on his face. “and she said ‘Oh that’s dangero...

An Old Dog Learning New Tricks
I’ve been attempting to get a handle on enough German to see me through our December Danube River cruise. My daughter recommended Duolingo, so that’s what I’m using. It’s a different approach than the way things were taught during my 2 years of studying the language at UCLA. Grammar isn’t stressed. They probably assume (and not so correctly in my case) that with enough repetition, it’ll sink in.
Lessons are mostly sentences which you either translate from German t...

To AI or Not to AI
Before I get starting on today’s post, I want to let everyone know I’ll be doing a presentation for the Authors of the Flathead on Thursday, August 10th, from 7-9 PM Mountain time. That would be 6-8 Pacific, 8-10 Central, and 9-11 Eastern. I’ll be talking about Three Ps of Writing: POV, Path to Publication, and Post Production. (I think that’s more than 3 Ps). I might throw in something about using travel in writing as well. It’s nothing formal, and there should be time for Q&...

Writing Detours
Any regular readers here should know I’m not a plotter. I don’t outline. I consider myself a “planster” since I usually have a vague idea of things that are going to happen in the book. Given I’m writing about things outside my areas of expertise, I need to make sure I’m in the realm of plausibility.
Sometimes, I write first, research later, especially with things my cops are doing. I have a couple of reliable contacts who will tell me if I’m writing things according to the “ru...

Don’t forget the BOGO sale at Kobo. Two books for the price of one. Four for the price of two. The sale runs through the month of July, but why wait until the last minute? Help an author out and tell your friends.
Visit the sale page. My book is here. You don’t need a specific Kobo device to get these books. It works on your computer, phone, or tablet with the Kobo app. This offer...
