Thanks to All Veterans
Today, take a moment to honor all who have served our country.
I’m honoring my father along with everyone else.

WCW – Crispy Mustard Chicken
Crispy Mustard Chicken
Adapted from a NYT recipe. Original called for bone-in, skin-on thighs, and had a slightly different preparation technique. It would probably work just fine with breasts, or drumstick/thigh quarters. That’s the beauty of recipes. They’re basically suggestions. Below is the way I made it.
Ingredients
4 boneless skinless chicken thighs
¾ t salt plus more for seasoning chicken
3 T unsalted butter, melted
1 c Panko bread crumbs (or use regular...

And It’s Off …
Deadly Adversaries is now in the hands of my editor.
Some books write themselves. This one definitely didn’t. It made me fight for every scene. Now, there’s nothing for me to do but wait to see which of us won the struggles.
Meanwhile, I’m taking a break. Make sure you’ve bookmarked this site or signed up for email announcements (form in the sidebar on this page) when I post something new.
If you haven’t read the other Mapleton Mysteries, now’s a good time to catch up. You can fi...

A Guide to Signing Greeting Cards
This. Just This.
Note: NO APOSTROPHES!
And a couple of notes. Amazon is still dropping prices on my ebooks. Be nice if they told me, but … Amazon. Anyway, as of this writing, they’ve dropped the price on my Blackthorne Bundles, Volumes 2 and 3. They were already priced significantly lower than the cost of each book separately, but this is a real steal. I don’t know how long this price will last.

Friday Fotos – Roatan Redux
First, for anyone interested, the second cataract surgery was successful. My eye doctor was very pleased, and I’m in the “letting things settle” stage. It’s 4 more nights of wearing the protective eye shield, and then the drops, drops, and more drops. It’ll be late November before I’m done with them.
They’re predicting snow up here for the weekend, so I thought I’d repost some pictures of a warmer climate. These are from a stop in Roatan on a Caribbean cruise we took in 2017.

Have ...

Writing Thing Right
I’m over at the Kill Zone Blog today, talking about the trials and tribulations of getting things right in Deadly Adversaries.
If I don’t respond to comments right away, it’s because I’m still adjusting to yesterday’s cataract surgery. Last time, it took a LONG time for the effects of the dilation to wear off. But don’t let that stop you from commenting. I’ll get to them when I can.

It’s the Little Stuff
The first draft of Deadly Adversaries is finished, although since I’m a ‘clean as you go’ writer, it’s not really a first draft. I’ve reviewed chapters as I’ve finished them, and my critique partners have offered their opinions and suggestions as well.
It has to be ready for my editor in two weeks, and I’ll be having my second cataract surgery tomorrow, which has cut into my editing time.
What am I looking for? I printed as much of the manuscript as I’d written to read on m...

Friday Fotos – Fall Colors
I’m rerunning this post from several years ago. It’s our annual trip up to Victor and Cripple Creek to see the fall colors, and honestly, things don’t look that much different from year to year. I’m busy with first round edits of Deadly Adversaries. More on that next time.
Enjoy.
Have a great weekend, everyone.

My Loss, Your Gain
A couple of days ago, I noticed a change in my royalty payouts for In the Crosshairs. With a little digging, I learned that Amazon had taken it upon itself to drop prices, and it wasn’t just for this book. There were more.
I contacted their help desk, and they fed me the company line. Amazon can charge whatever it pleases for any merchandise they sell, and they pay royalties based on their price, not the one the seller sets.
They also don’t tell you what triggered their price ...

You Saw it Here Second
My newsletter subscriber had the first peek at the title and cover of my next Mapleton Mystery. Now it’s your turn.
Drumroll, please.

Meanwhile, there’s plenty of time to get the rest of the series.
For those of you who are wondering, the first cataract surgery went well. My eyes are a little out of balance, but I’m managing all right. Next surgery is the 24th. I’ve already warned my housekeeper that I’m go...
