Friday Fotos – Glacier National Park
It’s Saturday, October 7th as I’m scheduling this post. Many of you know I’m trying to get as much done prior to my cataract surgery on the 10th, (and let’s not forget I’m on deadline for the new book). So, even though when you see this, it’ll have been 3 days since my surgery, I’m taking a shortcut with a link to my Glacier National Park gallery rather than uploading individual pictures.
Find them here. Hope you enjoy them. You can click the play arrow in th...

A Different Conference Experience
I’m over at The Kill Zone Blog today, talking about my trip to Montana and my take on the conference I attended. Hope you’ll pop over. (There are some pictures, too!)

Nothing Ever Happens in Mapleton … Until it Does

Does the Right Word Matter?
Tomorrow is my first cataract surgery. As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been busy trying to get as much done as possible. Between everything I knew I had to do, and everything else that popped up to add more Things To Do, I hope you’ll forgive me for rerunning a post. This one’s from 2015. For some of my readers, it might even be a new post.
Not long ago, while working on a new book, I was trying to find the right word. Not flowery description, not anything fancy, just a...

WCW – Butternut Squash Soup
Okay, it’s Friday, but I had other things to share on Wednesday. I just kept the WCW to make my recipes easier to search for.
Note: This recipe is for an instant pot/pressure cooker, but you could do everything on the stove, just saute the shallots and garlic, seasonings, add the broth, then add the squash and cook until tender. Up here at 9100 feet, that can take way too long, so the instant pot is my cooking method of choice for so many things.
Ingredients
2 lbs butternu...

Home from Montana
Arrived home to find that the aspens have not only changed from green to yellow to brown, but high winds blew most of them off the trees. A big change over 5 days.
For those interested, Feebie had her last check at the ortho clinic, and she’s doing much, much better than the surgeon expected. With only a couple of restrictions, she’s allowed to resume her pre-injury routine.
I’m still regrouping and gathering my thoughts, but overall, a great getaway. Sometimes, even us introve...

Montana Bound
I’m heading out to the Authors of the Flathead Writers Conference in Kalispell, Montana. Looking forward to hanging with people who “get” what it is to be a writer.
I’m hoping to have time (and decent weather) to get to Glacier National Park for some decompressing and some photographs.
Play nice while I’m gone. I’ll be sending a newsletter shortly after I return home with some exciting news about the new book. If you’re not a subscriber, why? You can sign up in the sidebar.

Friday Fotos – Oregon
I was digging through my photo folders and found this one from a trip to Oregon we made in 2015. I was probably using a little point and shoot.
**Note: Monday is Yom Kippur, so there won’t be a blog post.

Plot Threads
On Monday, I had my eyes evaluated, and the doctor said I was eligible for cataract surgery. While I don’t expect it to interfere too much with my life, it’s going to mean missing some writing time. They do one eye at a time, two weeks apart, and my first surgery is October 10th. Prior to this, my editor and I agreed that I’d have the manuscript ready for her on November 1st, and I hope to keep to that date. Not only will I have slowdowns because of the surgeries, I’m also going to ...

Something New
As we’re working through cleaning up some “under the hood” things in my website and blog, I’ve decided to add a new section. My interest in photography is growing, and I’ve been creating galleries of images I’ve taken on my travels.
You can find them as a sub menu in the “My Photography” in the Extras tab in the menu bar. I hope you’ll take a look.
If you enjoy any of them, I’d love to hear from you.

Odds And Ends
Lots of odds and ends to update. In no particular order of importance:
I’m over at the Kill Zone, talking about diversity, stereotypes, and other ways to upset and/or offend readers.
We’re down in the Springs today. Feebie is getting her sutures removed, so fingers crossed that it’s all rehab from this point forward. She’s been allowed to take walks (on leash, to her frustration). Very short ones. Five minutes the first week, 10 the next, then 15, etc. She has a lot of sniffing to ...
