Back to Work

Back to Work

I hope everyone and their pets had a safe Fourth. We keep things on the quiet side up here, enjoying the natural beauty without a lot of fanfare.

I’ve finally come to grips with the fact that my book isn’t going to write itself. I think part of the problem stems from that “wall” I hit at the 30,000 word mark. When I left for vacation, I was at about 32,000 words, so the “what am I doing?” was ingrained.

But, I printed everything I’d written so far, sat in my reading chair, and attem...

Happy 4th. But Be Considerate

Happy 4th. But Be Considerate

Pets and Vets on the 4th of July

Tomorrow is the Fourth of July, and I’m sure there are some people who started their celebration with the weekend. Where we live, fireworks are outlawed except in a few special public displays. We’re glad about this, since Feebie hates loud noises, especially thunderstorms, to the point where we have to sedate her.

If you’re planning your own private celebration, PLEASE remember to be safe and considerate. More dogs are lost on the Fourth of July than any other dat...

Friday Fotos – Travel Pix #2 – Boats

Friday Fotos – Travel Pix #2 – Boats

There’s plenty of water when you take a cruise. Where there’s water, there are going to be boats. Here are some of the images I captured.

Our Arctic Vacation – Recap 3 – Faroe Islands

Our Arctic Vacation – Recap 3 – Faroe Islands

After leaving the Shetland Islands, we had our only day of truly rough weather, causing a delay in our arrival in the Faroe Islands. However, the cruise company modified the itinerary so we visited both towns on the same day. Our first stop was Elduvik, a hamlet with about 30 residents. We had a walking tour, broken up by being invited into the home of a resident and served the most amazing fish chowder we’d ever had. Everyone agreed it was fantastic...

Our Travel–From a Writing Perspective

Our Travel–From a Writing Perspective

I’m over at The Kill Zone today, talking about some of the writing fodder I collected on our trip. And there are more pictures.

Hope to see you there.

Our Arctic Vacation – Recap 1—Bergen

Our Arctic Vacation – Recap 1—Bergen

We traveled with Hurtigruten on their expedition ship, MS Spitsbergen. We decided to let them handle all travel arrangements, which made things easier. We arrived on Wednesday, were met at the airport and driven to the hotel. Much easier than trying to arrange our own transportation, what with the anticipated travel fatigue, different language, and currency.

Once at the hotel, we celebrated our arrival in their bar and had a light snack. (Click on any image t...

Friday Fotos – Travel Pix #1 – Doors

I’m not ready to write recaps of my trip yet, but I thought I’d share some of the pictures I took on my trip. I decided to abandon asking Lightroom to organize my images. Instead, I chose a theme and scrolled through all the images for those that fit. Today: Doors. These come from Bergen, Lerwick, Torshavn, and Elduvik.

Have a great weekend, to those who celebrate.

It’s About All The Things

It’s About All The Things

To Do ListI’m still getting mind and body back into what I’d consider “normal.”

Taking a vacation is a wonderful thing. Coming home … not so much. Sure, it’s nice to be back in familiar surroundings, but after three weeks away, the transition can be tough. Honestly, I don’t know how people who work office jobs—or any jobs with required hours of appearance—can get home and be at work the next day.

First, on a trip that covered nine time zones, simply getting one’s body clock reset...

Home Again … Sort Of

Home Again … Sort Of Pikes Peak

I’m back on my mountain after a wonderful trip—a true vacation. I paid no attention to the WIP, and felt no guilt about the time off. And yes, there is still snow on Pikes Peak, although the aspens have leafed out, the grass is green, and flowers are springing up in our neighborhood.

Our travel home made for a lengthy day. Days, actually, as we left the ship on Thursday morning, toured Longyearbyen, then flew to Oslo for an overnight stay. What nobody had mentione...

While I’m Away

While I’m Away

I’m going to  be heading to Bergen, Norway, for the start of a long-awaited vacation. Our cruise will take us to places I’ve never heard of, with names I can’t pronounce.

The pre-trip checklist is pretty much complete–mail on hold, Sheriff’s Office alerted to send regular patrols by the house, neighbors also keeping an eye on things. Playing Tetris with the packing cubes to comply with the luggage restrictions. Electronics, camera equipment, meds, clothes. An e-sim card for the p...
