Show Don’t Tell. Or Not?

Show Don’t Tell. Or Not?

red book titles The Rule Book with a pair of black glasses

Anyone who’s taken up the writing gig has heard the “Golden Rule” of fiction. “Show, Don’t Tell.” But is it really a hard and fast rule? That’s what I’m talking about over at The Kill Zone today.

Also, Colorado peeps — Save the date! I’ll be part of the Mountain of Authors Showcase at the Pikes Peak Regional Library on May 6th. I’ll have books and giveaways.

Which Way

When a reader requested it, a friend of mine decided to put her newest book into audio format. The first step is finding a narrator, so she posted her script on a narration site and waited for results. They didn’t take long to arrive. These people wanted the job, so you’d think they’d strive to make a good impression. What she found was although her script ran a little over three minutes, some prospective narrators sent thirty-second reads. Some sent longer, but still parti...

Want a Free Listen?

Want a Free Listen?

In Hot Water by Terry Odell narrated by Pamela AlmandLast time, I talked about how Findaway Voices was part of Spotify. I did a little digging, and found out I can offer “Redemption Codes” which allow recipients to get the audiobook for free.

I’m not 100% clear on how it shakes out, but I don’t want to waste a code by using it myself.

I have 25 codes for In Hot Water, Book 1 in my Triple-D Ranch series, read by Pamela Almand. Little known fact — she grew up on a cattle ranch in Colorado, so she had first-hand experience with a ...

New Options for Authors and Readers

New Options for Authors and Readers

Indie authors have a lot of responsibilities beyond putting words on “paper.” There are a myriad of other tasks to attend to. Blogs, newsletters, workshops, email, etc. Then there’s Industry News. Recently, Findaway Voices joined with Spotify for audiobooks. I confess, I’m not an audiobook person, so I’m not familiar with the Spotify platform. I think I have an account there—or I had one—when the Hunt a Killer game we were playing included a playlist, and that...

Narrating a Book

Narrating a Book

Steve Marvel, audiobook narrator

Ever wonder what it’s like to narrate a book? I’ve got an interview with Steve “Captain” Marvel over at the Kill Zone Blog today.

Good news for audiobook listeners! It looks like the audiobook format for Deadly Relations is available almost everywhere now, with Amazon and Audible finally adding it to their storefronts. You can find all the channels, both ebooks and audio here.

Kobo’s got some good deals going on e-books this week.

Do you live in the USA, the UK, Australia,...

Seeing Things

Seeing Things round glasses with a starburst of purple striped lenses Image by Peter Oláh from Pixabay

I hope those of you celebrating had a happy Easter. We’re still observing Passover here on the mountain, and Ramadan is ongoing as well. Now, if only people would behave as their scriptures dictated, whichever they may be, life would be a lot better. I’ve taken to avoiding or merely skimming the news lately.

Driving home from our Seder (clarification—riding—the Hubster drove) I noticed car headlights were not only doing their usual starburst thing, ...

Audio Time!

Audio Time!

The audiobook format of Deadly Relations is showing up at the major sales channels, including Chirp, Barnes & Noble, Nook, Google Play, and Apple.

Eventually, it’ll get to Audible, but ACX “punishes” authors with prolonged delays for adding books using aggregators. For all you Audible people, you can get the book at a much MUCH lower price by shopping elsewhere. Save your credits! Chirp has no subscription requirements.

All the channels (at least I think so) have a sample you can try...
