Words of Comfort: Unbroken bones.

None of the Passover lamb's bones were to be broken. Just so, while the others crucified with Jesus had their legs broken by soldiers to hasten their death, Jesus' bones were not broken (see John 19:33,36).

Words of Comfort: Who'll train your children?

Among the many topics you talk about with your children, the most important one is God. Too many parents consider the church to have the primary responsibility for spiritually training their kids. But the responsibility lies on your shoulders. If you are a father, take the lead in teaching your children about the things of the Lord; don't leave it up to your wife. Consider the command of Scripture: "And, you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training an...

Words of Comfort: Passing over.

We can see the wonderful truth of the gospel of salvation in the Passover of Egypt. God's wrath will pass over all who apply the blood of the Savior to the doorposts of their lives. All those who obeyed Moses had to exercise humility of heart and faith in his words. He told them to do something that seemed foolish. Such is the way of the gospel; it is foolishness to those who are perishing (see 1 Cor. 1:18).

Words of Comfort: Our Passover Lamb.

In Exodus 12 we learn that each Israelite family was to select a spotless, male lamb to dwell with them for a short time and then kill the lamb without breaking any of its bones. The blood of the lamb, applied to their doorposts, would cause the angel of death to pass over those who put their trust in God.
God commanded the Jews to commemorate this event annually with a Passover celebration that included the sacrifice of an unblemished lamb. It was during this celebration that Jesus, our...

Words of Comfort: Sunlight.

The same sunlight that melts wax hardens clay. The heart of the sinner determines his response to the Word of God.

Words of Comfort: Turn for a Band-Aid.

As with many today, Pharaoh's repentance was superficial. They turn to God for a Band-Aid to cover life's plagues and pains. We should flee to the Savior because we have sinned against God. Read Psalm 51 for the motive for mercy from God.

Words of Comfort: George Carlin.

Atheist George Carlin (who passed into eternity in 2008) said, "But I want you to know something, this is sincere, I want you to know, when it comes to believing in God, I really tried. I really, really tried. I tried to believe that there is a God, who created each of us in His own image and likeness, loves us very much, and keeps a close eye on things. I really tried to believe that, but I gotta tell you, the longer you live, the more you look around, the more you realize, something is...wr...

Words of Comfort: Genuine repentance.

Those who come to Christ in genuine repentance are those who fear the word of the Lord. Those who don't fear God may enter the House of God as false converts, but their hearts are still in the field of the world.

Words of Comfort: A renewed heart.

"Pharaoh gave way under this plague. He promises that he will let the people go. Those who bid defiance to God and prayer, first or last, will be made to see their need of both. But when Pharaoh saw there was respite, he hardened his heart. Till the heart is renewed by the grace of God, the thoughts made by affliction do not abide; the convictions wear off, and the promises that were given are forgotten. Till the state of the air is changed, what thaws in the sun will freeze again in the shad...

Words of Comfort: Killing and making alive.
