The Shooting Problem: Solutions !
What would progressive Bernie Sanders and conservative Bill O'Reilly agree on?
If they would at least discuss these five lawful points, then I would ask you to vote for me -- Robert N. Franz -- for the U.S. House seat from the state of Delaware in 2016. Here is my link for a 'Write-in' vote: electionsncc.delaware.gov/use_vm/writ...
(Written right after the "Pulse" nightclub tragedy):
Out of necessity and certain decency I now call myself a 'gay & lesbian sympathizer'. The citizens of the United States need to care for and protect all the people. Throughout my years I have seen vulnerable of all types, and although being gay & lesbian does not necessarily beget vulnerability, it does when one is at the mercy of a homophobic gunman.
Forty-nine innocents killed -- fifty-three injured -- many of them needing life saving operations. A dead shooter -- a deeply troubled individual with no mercy and compunction. I wonder if anyone ever prayed for him. I wonder if he ever prayed for himself. I wonder if he saw "cattle in the marketplace" or ever teared up listening to "A Bridge Over Troubled Water".
In his primary and middle school years he most likely learned what he thought was 'citizenship' -- whatever that meant to him. His high school and later years brought academic specialization and I suppose a vocational interest in armaments.
Without getting into his head I can only say that his automatic weapons only magnified his temperamental, affective disorder. From rapid firing weapons to the individual's emotional state the answers must come from all sides of the issue.
After watching 'The Late Show' -- (On CBS, Monday, 6/13/2016) -- with Steven Colbert interviewing Bill O'Reilly -- plus adding some ideas of my own -- solutions need to be considered:
(*1*) We need to identify volatile, isolated, individuals and keep track of them much like neighbors keep track of the elderly and homeless on unbearably hot or frigid days. A neighborly visit can go far. The medical profession needs to be ready to be alerted for necessary treatment and medical response. Legal officials may need to be contacted as well. There needs to be more house calls from social workers.
(*2*) The U.S. Congress needs to make mandatory sentencing for crimes committed with guns. This should occur as federal law in conjunction with (or above) state law. Penalties and prison should come Federally 'and' from the State. Federal prison sentences have been known to stop the use of guns and armaments by criminals.
(*3*) The U.S. Congress needs to state specifically what types of guns need to be banned. A law such as this was passed in 1996 as a trial and was deemed successful. Unfortunately the law became obsolete and no longer covers the banning of certain guns and weapons. We need to pass a similar law now.
(*4*) The U.S. Congress needs to declare war on groups -- NOT necessarily countries -- which push and inordinately promote Islamic jihadism. There are five to six of these groups in the world now and once morphed there may be more. We have to delineate between Islamic religions, Islamic countries, and Islamic jihadist groups. If this were done then N.A.T.O. could get involved in relevant world affairs, and the F.B.I., A.T.F., and other organizations could at the least detain individuals who become radicalized within the U.S. borders. The actual bickering of words must stop and our leaders must stop obfuscating as to what is meant by the word 'jihad.' 'Jihad' must be seen as an issue !
(*5*) I've spoken with Superior Court Judge Charles Toliver in Delaware who stated that "if you don't want to get into trouble, then don't put yourself in trouble's way." This statement not only applies to perpetrators, but victims and cops as well. Take care of yourself and look for good friends. If you don't drink then it is difficult to obtain a 'Driving Under the Influence' summons. Consequences result from the circumstances which you allow yourself to get into, as well as, your basic attitude about where you are in life.
Basic 'posturing' by elected officials must stop and the willingness to be open-minded and honest needs to prevail. Elected officials need to also become public servants.
My God!! -- I have to cheer up and that fact is difficult! Something tells me that whoever draws the 'short-straw' becomes President of these United States. It used to be in the late 20th century all the wars we became involved in were initiated and sustained by our President. [Unlike WWI, WWII, and other wars which had been waged with legislative body approval.] Now Congress can begin a war with an unprepared Commander-in-Chief. Man, I do not want to go there! I do not want to be a President who is forced into war!!
I may seek to be a member of the U.S.House of Representatives, but I abhor the thought of ever becoming President of these United States!
In the end though we have to stop the violence. At the least, make sure that you vote!! Still, I seek the Delaware seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. It may be possible to help in this way. Thank you.
Sincerely written, and
Respectfully submitted,

Economics & Banking: Serving the Nation (part 2)
Pirates bartered with South Sea Islanders using English trinkets for what they wanted. One lira in the Roman Empire meant so much more than the now aluminum minted coin of 50,000 lira -- you can see what inflation there has been in two millennium. Spanish doubloons meant something when the wooden ships sank -- now they are worth hundreds of millions. Cash represents one agreement in our money supply while interest rates are another way of controlling our 'supply of money.'
If I could fish on my island and you could pick pineapples on yours we would trade 2 of my fish for 3 of your pineapples. Thus an economy begins with bartering.
Enter Joe who complicates our trading by offering coconuts from his island. With this new complexity to our economic system it would behoove us all to gain agreement by using a medium of exchange -- cash or money of some sort -- where we could keep track of our purchases. If we became lucky perhaps some pirate would come and offer trinkets so that we could use the trinkets as agreed upon cash. We need to make agreements -- not only for cash -- but for economic and banking reasons as well.
To gain the current true value of fish, pineapples, and coconuts, all those in the economic community must come to a valued conclusion. Should we have an auction to find out what we really value these goods at? Our cash could actually be the very trinkets which the visiting pirates have left to us. We use them to barter -- they are our so-called 'dollars.' In this way these economic values begin our "early" stock market. With daily values for these goods prices tend to "settle" and relative values become more consistent.
Things change. Not only do our mediums of cash change -- but the value of Spanish doubloons increase as the years go by. This could be a nightmare or a profit for an "e-bayer". [Just a note -- where but in America do people feel that others want to buy 'their' "junk"? So much for garage sales & flea markets.] Practically everything is for sale at some time. Everybody at some time hopes to find opportune wealth in the commonplace !
Trading today is a collection of cash which becomes a computerized symbol or a mark on paper in an electronic account. Whatever happened to kidney pie, tripe, kippers, scrapple, or pork bellies? Who is being fed what?
The overwhelming key to America's economy is the ability to distribute food effectively and efficiently. Our economy is based on the distribution of food.
How is it that trucks and boxcars haul everything including vegetables, canned soup, boxed starches, and most meat to all corners of our nation? How is it that seafood from Maine, and fruit from Hawaii, as well as other delicacies, are flown and moved to every town in our country -- Fresh!!? All other goods are secondary to food. We need to use our cash for these benefits.
Let's look again at President Truman and the village treasurer, Clyde, as they stimulate the economy by 'magically' making 100 bucks serve as 108 bucks. Life need not heed the game of 'Monopoly'. Incremental addition to the money supply should increase so all may be fed in a continual way. Each individual, family, organization, and business is important in our scheme. Let's get back to healthy basics.
This 'supply of money' is based on the Federal Reserve Prime Rate as well as the amount of cash in the system. It shapes our policies. Slow increases in the Prime Rate need to match productivity. Even added counterfeit money -- when honored -- adds to the total amount of money in the system -- which in other words is the "money supply." All of the money together in the country's system is the "total money supply."
Think of the cash strewn in wallets & purses, the coins stashed in piggy banks, the money in banks, ATM's and businesses, and even bills stuffed in mattresses. Efficiency and effectiveness are keys in our economic system. We need to be accurate in making the total money supply grow to match an increasing productivity in goods and services. The growth of the amount of money we all have in total must match the growth of the economy. That is the agreement -- that is what is meant as the growth of productivity !!
Remember -- the stimulus only remains constant and strong when the slow growth of the money supply matches our productivity. We need to grow -- not too slowly -- not too quickly. For the harvest of the world, our money comes from usable cash and the Prime Rate as it includes all countries.
For our one country -- we must pay attention to what is going on here. Our "dollar" border from other countries is just that -- a boundary. Economic policy should always be different country to country unlike that which is occurring within our one country alone. We are a 'united states' -- we use the same currency throughout our nation. The workers of the U.S. of A. need to focus and concentrate on our own productivity as a nation before becoming immersed in all types of trade with other countries.
We need to be fruitful ! Eventually we will need to work with others on this planet. We need to get this right. Let's value people ! Let's do things to make productivity honestly grow in our nation ! Wealth will then grow as well !!
Thank you very much.

Economics & Banking: How Do They Work? (part 1)
President Harry Truman was credited with the statement, "The buck stops here!" But is this really true? Let's look closer:
Let's take a simple village where citizens don't have much to do. Let's say that we give 100 bucks to Clyde -- a treasurer -- who then loans out money to the businesses of the village.
Katrina owns a spinning wheel and weaves cloth. Keesha is a seamstress and makes clothes. Garry uses leather & urethane to make shoes. Felicidad makes great cornbread and Olga can supply paper such as napkins and plates. Bob can produce a crude manner of making light bulbs and needed wiring. In total these 6 individuals borrow 60 bucks from Clyde. Each one gets 10 bucks to start their business.
The last 40 bucks go to 2 businesses. Abel & Butch need 20 bucks to make a windmill which grinds cornmeal and provides electricity for the light bulbs. Now children can learn how to read in their beds each evening in the village. Joining in this are Juan & Efrem who have a method of bringing potable water to the citizens. They receive the last 20 bucks. Since water is essential -- all are grateful. [In these last two business there are 2 co-owners.]
One might say that the buck stops at 100 bucks because that is what was allocated to the bank. But does it?
Since the bank has to make money as well; by decree, Harry Truman has the bank charge 5% interest on the original 100 bucks. Each business of the village must pay back to the bank 5% more than it borrowed from it.
Do you see what happens?
The supply of money has increased in this village system by a little more than 5%. When the businesses make their profits they then have to pay back the 5% to the bank as a cost of doing business.
There is a limit -- a finite number -- which now makes the total supply of money more than 100 bucks. In fact -- in estimation by using calculus -- the total money supply is closer to 108 bucks. Almost magically the money supply is greater; but now, if you will, consider the benefits:
There is more commerce and positive activity in the village. Even though more money has come into the system, there is still a 'stimulus' which has added more business activity. "Clyde, the treasurer, has done good!" so they say! People seem happier -- others have sustenance!
The problems which come to our village are 'cautionary' problems:
(a) If the money supply goes up too quickly over the pace of productivity, then there will be inordinate inflation.
(b) If work slows down, then there will be reasons leading to deflation.
But these problems can be dealt with using a slow growth maintenance of the economy. Interest rates must match the productivity of our village. In some cases we also have to consider nearby villages and how they affect our village's economy.
Other problems surface when the banks make and keep too much money. Because of certain considerations banks are able to make even more money by either:
(1) Swallowing the money supply and making scads of bucks.
(2) Without regulation -- by offering different loan rates to different individuals or businesses, and finally by
(3) Adding on fees and/or penalties for other services.
Although banks need to make money, they also should know that as part of the system they also need to be regulated -- just as we regulate the power company and potable water businesses in our village. For the good of each village and our total society, we must have the major conglomerates be able to serve each individual part of the system. Banks are just as socially important as power and water systems !! All of our residents must be considered.
By knowing the nuances of certain subjects along with banking issues I am able to represent a community. See more about commerce in my next post. Please also check out the essays in all of my blog. Thank you !!
With discernment, should you now be willing to cast a 'Write-in' vote for me for U.S.House from Delaware then click on this link: electionsncc.delaware.gov/use_vm/writ...
I end this essay with the knowledge that there will be more. Next I will write a shorter second piece which stresses other considerations in our 'global' village. I also have to listen to others' input as well. We all do!
Thank you for your patience.
"The buck stops" when we all get at least a morsel to eat -- if you think this way -- then you are not in a self-centered way of thinking! Should you believe this way then Godspeed to you! If you do not believe in the gods then just say a 'human' "grace!" We'll talk later!
Thank you!

Political Beliefs; Robert N. Franz (part 2)
Two issues which still have to be faced and solved in the early 21st century by the U.S. of A. are health and education: Briefly speaking, it must be said that as education goes -- it certainly influences the outcome of our healthcare. To take them on now carries as much weight on our GDP as our defense expenditures.
We do not have to have healthcare as Sweden or Denmark but we do have to have healthcare for our people. The private method of the late 20th century failed a majority of us and President Obama's health insurance, which covers 90% of the population, would run up more expenses.
I recommend that we look more to what the British are doing with their system. Costs are less per capita. In this case their Parliament decides how much expenditures cost for care and research. In this way there would not be 'middlemen' jacking up the cost of care every year. The major problem would be the supply of health care specialists and 'waiting times'. Another concern is what it would do to the 'Hippocratic Oath'. Perhaps we should then consider the training in which professionals would obtain responsibility, noting, of course, that values have to be upheld -- not only for the direct healthcare but for healthcare suppliers as well. Why should meds be "jacked-up" as well?
To look for the upholding of values please now see how one may offer a 'Write-in' vote for Robert N. Franz for U.S. Congress from the state of Delaware. Click on this link: electionsncc.delaware.gov/use_vm/writ... Thank you !
Education is essential for the care of a country as well. For socialization and early learning I recommend universal pre-K. Let the youngsters learn how to get along with each other well before the actions and drudgery of primary and middle school. This could just prevent a later 'gun war' in some student's lives !
Remember that primary and middle schools build a foundation of how to work in later life. What we learn there determines how we find habits, values, and the need for patience, tolerance and fortitude. All school is important -- these grades determine what kind of citizens we will be.
High school and early college form times when interests pique and 'apprenticeships' are formed. I know one doctor who learned how to paint artistically, and a chemical engineer who learned the skills of woodworking. Both upon their retirement learned more and worked further at these occupations of opportunity.
M.A.'s, M.S.'s, legal degree seekers and holders, Ph.D.'s and M.D.'s work with specialized training. These very responsible individuals become professionals much as other students gain trades. All of these 'specialists' use learning by academics and "hands on" work. Since they learn - 'in the field' - not always do great costs have to be incurred. Essentially they learn 'en vivo'!
We look for less expensive ways to get an education. Learning should not be an exercise which is purely academic -- instead the "hands on" approach means that it will be more realistic and less expensive. People need to be rewarded for what they can do and not necessarily because of the 'letters' after their names.
There is a right and a wrong. We need to be able to learn 'en vitro' as well as 'en vivo'!! Yet, we need to get back to the colleges which Senator Bernie Sanders and so many others attended in New York City years ago. Many people became very successful using community colleges almost specifically because of other responsibilities they held along with their studies. Neighborhood work and children are very important !
As far as the rest of us are concerned there should be some form of debt forgiveness. If not that then listen to President Bill Clinton who recently said that the entire package of each student's debt should be consolidated and treated as a "mortgage with no increasing debt." President Clinton then said, "In that way the students would not have to live in their parent's house when they would be 35 to 40 years old!" [Like he has that problem] Although he comes from a different world than most of us -- he seems to value education for all of us.
In these ways we know that there is nothing wrong with going to any community college -- for our training for the future not only comes with academics, but practical experience too!
So therefore in this case, my issue with conservative thought is that we have to help instead of hinder. 'If you are frustrated with the game -- then we have to change the rules'! Education must be more of a right than a privilege in modern America. When all of us know how to read, perhaps we can all be fed as well !
Finally, I have to say that all of these issues need not be put together awkwardly -- or eclectically -- but more so that each individual can grow to be a healthy, responsible citizen in the society of our country.
There will of course be more later -- there always is -- but in these ways we can have a framework of how to 'work' in America ! Efficient, 'and' effective methods need to be applied.
May God bless you if you desire it. May peace be yours!
Sincerely written, and
Respectfully submitted,

Political Beliefs; Robert N. Franz (part 1)
To vote for and support Robert N. Franz for Delaware's U.S. House of Representative seat in Congress you should know what he believes. Here, very succinctly, are his thoughts on major issues:
First please know that this list of political beliefs is just that: a list. Fine nuanced writing is saved for another time. Second -- should you be interested -- here included is a link in which you may receive directions on how to place a "Write-in" vote for Robert N. Franz. Please use this link accordingly: electionsncc.delaware.gov/use_vm/writ... Thank you !
Now for Robert N. Franz's political beliefs:
We should only become aggressive as a country if duly provoked. This means that we should not use aggressive missions unless U.S. lives are at stake. We should not go to war unless threatened with no other recourse by another force or forces. Only true provocation should lead us to the beginnings of war.
Guns too are an issue. Certainly if a certain people such as the Chinese invade the U.S. of A., it may be prudent to have guns in the hands of our people. But honestly -- I really do not know now what the National Rifle Association wants to do with guns in our society. Is the N.R.A. in the pocket of gun dealers? Why is it so difficult to limit the possession of guns with criminals and the insane? We need to do more with this. We need to see results !
There needs to be a truce -- or moratorium so to speak -- between authorities such as the police -- and those who feel threatened by the outcomes of certain current tragedies. For some time the discussion needs to be made a discussion (and kept as one) so that people can learn how to live safely. We must remain open to hear all sides which foment social unrest.
Our classes of society are suffering from more than physical aggression -- it seems like the problem is one of uncaring financial aggression by the institutions which have the money. In fact, we all need to be taught that we are inexplicably connected to each other. People need to see their own responsible role in society no matter what institution teaches them about these roles.
I am all for the maligned and the vulnerable having protection. From the mentally ill being led to become suicide bombers, to the hermaphrodite not being able to use a bathroom, to students crushed by debt, and individuals not being able to work for a living wage -- people are being used in our world. There is too much hunger in the United States as well. The vulnerable have to be able to live in peace and work for a true living -- we all need to be free enough to pursue positive outcomes in our lives. Values for all must be promoted.
Certainly the middle class needs help -- for after all it is disappearing. I am for strong taxation of the highest 1% of incomes in the U.S. and stringent taxation of the highest 1/10th of 1% of the highest incomes. What most people don't know is that even with taxation such as this, the wealthy will still stay rich and the ranking of society's wealthy will not change.
I also want to help small independent businesses. Most people do not consider that many doctors and lawyers are small businesspersons as well. From local diners to ice cream stands and auto repair shops all the way to professionals in business -- small enterprise is getting crushed. We need to tax large corporations and not treat those corporations as individuals. Again, let individuals only contribute to political campaigns and keep the large corporate donations to virtually nil. Corporate taxation must again resurface as we need to have individuals -- not corporations -- donate politically.
I studied chemistry in college. My first published paper was co-authored with Dr. Frank Lambert and Mr. Bruce Hasslinger of Occidental College as we studied models of what was happening in the smog of our atmosphere. Dr. Lambert initiated the study of the reduction of carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur compounds (carbon tetrachloride, nitriles, thiosulfates) in our atmosphere by using a model method at the glassy carbon electrode. Now in our world we have massive carbon dioxide heat domes which move and effect our weather. Creation or not -- we need to tend to environmental issues.
Our land and water supplies are also affected by fracking and coal burning. Even now because of drilling and recent fracking, the Midwest is having earthquakes like they have never seen before. Heat movement causes stronger tornadoes and now larger hurricanes in warmer waters. The Midwest, along with the bulk of the United States is being hit with increasingly stronger weather events. We 'must' know that our world is changing -- adjustments 'must' be made.
I can talk 'science' to those who speak the language. Whereas my chemistry degree does not make me a specific expert -- I am able manage concepts and can discuss issues with Ph.D.'s and other experts. With true science I can lead others to more satisfactory adjustments. My knowledge leads to managerial over experiential science.
Society too is changing. To state the truth, I feel uncomfortable with abortion but do not care if decent adoptive parents are gay. From "Annie" to "Oliver Twist" many orphans have done well in life -- why can't more? As long as there is value and respect for the living -- answers can be found.
It is how a society treats it's young which determines it's future. We must raise and teach our young with the benefits that will help them to function well in their future. That is our history -- that will be our legacy.
For those who haven't had helpful or adequate chances we need to offer remedial tutoring -- certain others -- such as current leaders may do well to take 'finishing school' courses! We will need to tailor our help!
This ends Part 1 of my political beliefs. Part 2 will come shortly and primarily will cover the issues of health and education. May a higher power bring you Godspeed!
Sincerely written, and
Respectfully submitted,
Robert N. Franz

My Service For This Country - Robert N. Franz

I have no vagrant's "pipe-dream" that will go up in smoke. This is a view that I have held for years -- this is what I feel. It is time to say why I believe that I would make an excellent United States Congessional House Representative from the State of Delaware.
First I have to say that I have the ideal personality. I can go for days on a project (or a variety of projects) without hardly sleeping at all and with the intensity of a honeybee and the focus of a beaver. In college, I went for years working on my studies and not focusing on a love interest simply by sublimating and by not letting diversions waylay me. Now I can still do this but it is much easier with a long-term relationship as I have with my loving wife because we each know each other well. In other words, our love includes the work we do instead of competing for affections. In seeing the other partner we accept 'en totale.'
Second, I know that at this time I would make a better representative than administrator. I shuttle information to people, explain concepts, take consensus, handle finances all while keeping a strong moral fiber. I am able to be in a variety of groups -- some which have opposing views -- and still maintain my strength of commitment. I am able to have independent views and still hold true to my integrity. I am also able to respect the writings in the Bible and still believe in evolution and a "Big Bang" causation of the universe. In fact I love to keep open to new thought as long as it can be based on precedent and only if respect is present.
Third, although I handle and save what money I can -- and parenthetically have definite success oriented views on the global benefits of micro-banking -- it must be known that I am a humanist too. As a social work intern at a VA hospital in Elsmere, Delaware, I counseled sick patients. I have taught 3 to 12 year-old children how to swim for many years, as well as studied human services and social work at the collegiate level for two years. For over a year I was a Co-Director for a center for the mentally ill. My own experience in therapy led me to learn more about myself and become very effective in life. My experience with other people's addictions has led me to find ample work, worthy answers, and ways to deal with grief.
Personally, I have quit smoking, drinking, and have accounted for every dollar spent in our household for many years. My wife and I live modestly and consider ourselves spiritual. We can attend more than one church and many days find value in different services. All in all, we look at church-going as a way of asking for help -- not 'knowing what is best' -- and a way to reach out to other people with needs.
Fourth, I am a leader out of my survival instinct. Many people are surprised that I am still here. As a friend once put it, "All you do, Bob, is just make it. You just barely make it and then, just keep making it. God bless you!"
I graduated Cum Laude in chemistry from a four year liberal arts school in Los Angeles -- Occidental College. This is the same college U.S. Representative and Vice-presidential candidate Jack Kemp graduated from and President Barack Obama attended. As one might see -- the college encouraged diversity.
Working at a small research chemical company I moved to a multinational chemical firm in Wilmington, Delaware. At one time I audited the night shift on a drilling rig. At another time I worked packing research chemicals to be shipped from a warehouse and then as a salesperson for the same research chemical firm. I do not consider my work in chemistry concerns as rewarding because I studied organic chemistry and not chemical engineering. Specifically by this I mean that through discussions with other chemists I am able to understand concretely what is happening in chemistry, but left to my own devices I do not claim to be an end-all expert. I am more like a chemical manager. At least I know that other chemists are needed.
Personally, I needed to take an inventory of myself -- I was young and mentally scattered -- I needed to mature and learn about people and life in general. Unprepared, young, and lonely, I gravitated about with only 'book knowledge.' If I would have been in a war I would have been a casualty. By living here in this Mid Atlantic region I was able to survive. I appreciate and and identify with the difficulties of many -- for I have solved many of those same difficulties in my life. Experiences have made me stronger and my life is basically very good now. Thank you !!
Finally, certain crimes that had previously been perpetuated onto me in my early twenties resulted in a personality changing infirmity which took decades to heal. I spent years healing from what others did to me and my own personal sensitivity. Now I am ready to face life. Now -- with these experiences behind me -- I want to move to make a true meaning in my life. Now I want to give to others and help society. To begin I have to write. Honest writing helped me begin to get well. Please see my early eBook -- Bob Does Everything Backwards: Writing Out of an Illness
Then compare it to the paperback -- The Stigma of the Mentally Ill: Bob Does Everything Backwards
These writings are a documented account of my mind adjusting to get well. It is a healing -- a spiritual healing that works. Finally, it is a letting go of 'baggage' -- something that I never should have had in the first place. The problem solving I have shown in these books is essential for you to know me -- simply because I have become a man who has not only survived, but who has matured and grown as well.
In the recent and now coming posts I will write about subjects which should be considered by a United States Representative. Please consider my writings and communicate with me about them. Thank you.
Sincerely written, and
Respectfully submitted,
Robert N. Franz

The State of Delaware; Introduction for Robert N. Franz
I am writing now because I believe that by serving you I may fill my own needs as well. Specifically, here I want to accomplish two things:
First: I would like you to read my book "The Stigma of the Mentally Ill: Bob Does Everything Backwards
By reading this work you may learn that I, like some other people, have been led down the wrong path in life concerning mental health and, in fact, can now choose a more healthy lifestyle where satisfaction can result by relating to others in better ways. In short, I was duped into not believing in myself and now with added confidence can act without the fear of having to "fit in" to society in an incongruous way. Yes, I can now comfortably be myself in the face of anyone!
By reading the book you may learn the pitfalls of what not to fall into, as well as, be summoned to gain the strength -- by seeing examples from my life -- to face your life with honesty and courage. It will be easier for you, the reader, to identify, work on your own shortcomings, and act with purpose when dealing with others. When this happens we all can work easier simply because all of us can have the same goals filled with honesty, forthrightness, and direct action. This begins the inception of teamwork -- something that can grow with time!
Second: I would like you to support me as becoming your Representative to the United States House. At this time I am certainly more of a representative than an administrator so certainly that much will fit. By knowing who we are I can be more effective !!
I desire to 'level the playing field' for many in this state -- not to mention these United States -- by making more options available for life choices, by helping create jobs & making education available to more people, and by helping the middle class. The key for me is to promote more productivity in our society. Productivity that would raise the GDP, add to our incomes and create a tax base to fund more programs which would level the playing field. To do this we would have to create slow but sustainable growth in the economy -- much like is now being accomplished in the British economy right now -- as well as maintain solid industry in the U.S.. To do this we would need the cooperation of many -- we would need teamwork! This is just what we need over time. More will come with time as more must be revealed!
At this moment I will list seven areas which I have appreciation towards and have studied:
(1) Studies of chemistry and some biology especially as they relate to medicine and environmental science.
(2) Helping the vulnerable get a "leg up" so their lives can have more value.
(3) Bringing peace yet having strength -- from sensibility with weapons to protective policing.
(4) Using social work and psychiatry, as well as, promoting effective first responding and comprehensive emergency preparation for residents who need such aids.
(5) Promoting both integral and differential use of the money supply in banking especially concerning federal reserve rates and productivity.
(6) For the future of our society we must have direction in sociology, anthropology, paleontology, even to the point of understanding something about religious studies.
(7) Our country must first continue with a slowly emerging growth inherent with a productive economy.
Please consider what I have written here and make comments when you are ready and able to talk to me!
To my good friends I say Godspeed and Best Wishes,
Sincerely,
Robert N. Franz

To my good friends I say Godspeed and Best Wishes,
Sincerely,
Robert N. Franz

Are the Candidates Accurate?! What is a President?
A president is not a popular boss, a messenger, nor even royalty to the people. A president is a delegate, or if you will, a deputy who must represent ALL of the electorate. There are elements of both a representative and an administrator in this leadership position. Let's look further:
This season the candidates have seemed to miss the mark. None have shown us what the job entails. It seems that those seeking office want to 'appear' or 'seem' presidential without actually 'being' presidential. It would make more sense to have them just relax and 'be' themselves without posturing, criticizing each other, and coming up with 'proclamations.' None of them have told us whether they are a representative or an administrator and even more importantly just what combination of these entities would apply to their presidency.
A representative or senator is an agent to the people and in this way basically differs from a governor, administrator, or Chief Executive Office (CEO). The managers -- like a governor or CEO -- dispense relief and justice. They carry out tasks and take action on and about their organizations. In government their functions are defined by the constitution as these managers take a different path to leadership than those who begin as a representative.
Legislative representatives (including senators) vote on and enact laws. They also serve as advisers to the administration. The Vice-President's office is the chair -- or leader -- who presides above the senatorial law making body as the presidential office heads the executive branch of the government. As a rule when the President represents all of the people he/she is loyal to not only the constitution but the constituents as well. In many ways the President acts both as a representative and an executive. The road to the office can travel a variety of paths -- representation should at least be part of it.
Legislative bodies made up of representatives voted in by the electorate pass laws which enact or repeal policy. These bodies, and the President together serve and represent the people. With a diverse public it can be difficult to agree on the passing of many different laws. Representatives need to learn how to work together. Not only should one stand for their electorate but they need to know and find similarities with a variety of other legislators.
Should I ever be elected as a representative I would represent a constituency and then go further to represent certain other vulnerable people in our society. It is certain that some people need a level "playing field". My goal would be to provide an honest change so that all of us could be productive and many more would be effective. The election would therefore be for more than just a few.
Should a billionaire be elected -- the government would be run more like a corporation. In this case the billionaire would be less likely to represent ALL of the people and decisions would be made primarily for the benefit of the organized 'company'. There is now some question as to how much all of the people would be represented, especially those who have been seen to be on the fringes of society. It should be maintained even in the face of vast differences that all citizens have individual, inalienable rights despite those difference which pull and tug people apart. In the face of the world we all need to have representation !! 'One nation' needs to be more than just a concept for a few individuals.
Although there are elements of the representative and the administrator in all candidates seeking public office -- it is good to know about the personality and motives of each candidate. Personality can determine the qualities shown in the elected officer and especially to which one's actions would default.
Basically, are we voting for a representative or an administrator? Which would be better for the specific elected office we are voting for? The results are determined in the reasons we vote. We need to know why we vote the way we do. It makes a big difference.

Emotional Cognition Theory (pt 10) A New Psychoanalytic Therapy
(10): The Final -- Conclusions and Review:
Through the use of these books -- The Emotional Brain: The Mysterious Underpinnings of Emotional Life
by Joseph LeDoux, The Stigma of the Mentally Ill: Bob Does Everything Backwards
by Robert N. Franz, and Emotional Intelligence Works: Developing "People Smart" Strategies
by S. Michael Kravitz and Susan D. Schubert we can see how the higher functioning parts of our brains are able to communicate using 'emotional intelligence'. In fact -- as 'higher brained' organisms on this earth -- we are able to appreciate and discern just how others feel and would act due to their intellect, emotions, and physical states. If it is at all possible to add the spiritual, as well, then all our behaviors become an "I AM" in which we are drawn even closer through our basest instincts. Man will therefore reach his essence as shown by God itself!! [And if you cannot believe that then just try to conscript a view of the vast 'communal mind' of all humans !!]
All of this notwithstanding -- I choose to look at three concepts in review of the last number of essays I have written:
The first is "state dependent learning". As college students we used to joke about the concept of 'state dependent learning' as we learned it. As stated it is determined that one performs best -- to the maximum -- if one is asked to duplicate what is learned in the same 'state' as when you learned it. This means that if I learned something when drunk, drinking, or in a hangover -- that the best time to regurgitate the information would also be when I was drunk, drinking or in a hangover. Although we could joke about this as college students the thought of this concept had me consider the use of medicine by psychiatrists.
What if the only way a problem could be addressed, or eventually solved, was by changing the behavior of a client through the use of medicine? Could time be saved and development towards preferred behavior be learned while on medicine? Once learning the new -- more adaptable -- behaviors would it be possible that the client could then slowly "get off" the medicine while still learning what was needed?
Practically speaking -- this could be a way of teaching a client new, more appropriate, and adaptable behaviors. By using 'state dependent learning' a psychiatrist would be able to teach patients new ways of how to act in situations.
Concurrently, a client could also learn just by noting the emotions he was having as he tries to learn. Using 'state dependent learning' he may be able to reproduce feelings at these times and find a new ways of learning. The use of medicine does not always have to be used -- sometimes an emotion or grouping of feelings could suffice.
In these instances I may or may not use medication. In my case I continue to want to stop all medication. The use of 'higher' amounts of drugs in my system are gone. I now believe that I can learn without drugs and use 'state dependent learning' while using no meds. Can't I be respected for this?
The second concept to be considered is -- "Social Learning". Ideally we want to be at the point where we have no shame in learning new behaviors in front of others. Examples from mine and Leslie's middle schools show that as we learned in front of our peers -- that we seemed to perceive attention and shame thrown onto us. Therefore it became essential to stop being so very self-centered and embarrassed especially while others were present. We had to know that we were not as unique as we previously thought.
Once we accept the fact that everyone at certain points has to learn in front of others, then it isn't so bad. One of the most feared behaviors one may undertake is to speak up in front of an audience. Fear and shame sometimes are doubled and tripled. When we talk in front of others there is a tendency to fear judgements from others. Yet, in the end -- if we can accept ourselves onstage, then this stage of life is not so difficult to take.
In fact, growing up with 'supervising peers' does not necessarily have to be painful. Time and trials can prove that sometimes it can be exhilarating as well. Look at the life of Shirley Temple Black, who had grown up as a child in films and without embarrassment later in life served her country as a Representative to U.S. Congress. There was no self-consciousness -- no embarrassment -- as at all times her life was well-meaning and enlightening.
Finally I have to mention the one behavior which we must risk for ourselves. This is 'courage':
At some point to be successful we all must "take a leap of faith"! We need to cross the threshold of actually 'wanting to try' and then moving to an 'action-endeavor' mode which heads towards a new state of mind. We cannot be afraid of the trying.
Some still mistakenly feel that they have to "alter their state of mind" to take the first step to action -- but we know deep inside that no "'swig' of whiskey" or pill of "xanax" or "valium" will do it for us. We can only prevail with positive steps when we have the courage to act soberly and sanely as we approach actualization.
There has to be a point in time where we need to 'place our boots on the ground' and move. Ready or not we will have to try.
Only by trials will we find the behaviors we need. By ourselves, or in front of others, [in the end it doesn't really matter -- for] we will need to start a new life. Choices will have to be made!!
As Yogi Berra once said, "If you see a fork in the road -- take it"!! With that I now offer you the best of 'Emotional Cognition Therapy' -- both a theory and a treatment which will change your life!!

Emotional Cognition Theory (pt 9B) A New Psychoanalytic Therapy
I had to learn how to 'dial down' and do what I could -- not expecting too much -- but to do my part without feelings of exception.
(9B): More by S. Michael Kravitz and Susan D. Schubert on Emotional Intelligence Works: Developing "People Smart" Strategies
Internal problems may manifest themselves as 'spiritual' as well. We are not always in the physical, mental, and emotional world. There are times we may have to "pray" [or in other words use 'self-hypnosis'] to help change our perception about our dilemmas.
Please know that I differ with Dr. Kravitz in that I feel that emotions should be channeled instead of controlled. Specifically, when one attempts to control an emotion it is like putting a stopper on a closed system -- like closing up a steaming kettle. Eventually the closed system will build up pressure and explode. That is why in my view emotions should always be expressed if even just a little. Channeling allows for calm expression.
Let's now look at some adult problems. For a long while my wife, Leslie, had lived with a resentment which would not go away. She continued to relive the betrayal of classmates in the lunchroom of her middle school. Leslie perceived past ostracism, ridicule, and rejection from girls at her school and felt that it had bearing on how she felt about herself as an adult. Her experiences in 7th, 8th, and 9th grades quietly made her bitter as an adult.
Since these thoughts affected her spirit and would not go away they needed to be purged from her mind. Clearly it was needed for her to go forward with a more optimistic view of life. What did she do?
As an adult Leslie contacted a therapist and then a member of the clergy where she discussed her feelings and began to pray not only for the "kids" in her old middle school, but that her resentments would be lifted as well. By discussion, prayer -- and some 'self-hypnosis' the remembrances vanished. She could honestly feel the truth that we are all crazy in middle school and these things really did not matter. We could then go into a society of caring where each of us looked after each other.
At this point I need to make some disclosures about myself which I normally would not make. To unlock the past means that I have to use a certain amount of understanding. I have to describe some occurrences and situations.
Despite the fact that I had been raped, I still graduated in chemistry from Occidental College in Los Angeles in 1976. Those two facts alone do not preclude that they could never exist together. [It IS possible to graduate from college as well as be raped -- it just takes a certain amount of 'chutzpah' whether one is Jewish or not. In my case -- since I had to return to the scene of the crime to graduate -- it either took bravery or blind denial to do so.] Succinctly put, I faced emotions I could have avoided -- yet in the end -- the experiences led me to a specific acceptance of my Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Eventually, though, through years of work I was able to recover and face what I am today -- a continuously recovering man.
I also did not perform as I was expected to at Occidental. I was told by another more exceptional student (who had been chosen to study performance by admissions standards) that I was never expected to do as well as I did. Graduating with a 3.45 GPA I also was honored with the status of Cum Laude. This was a surprise even to me! It was difficult to understand that I could do as well as I did considering that when I was accepted to the school my background did not have the depth of other students. Many felt that if they worked they could achieve Summa Cum Laude -- I on the other hand only did the best I could. My limit "had been reached" -- in the school's 'admission's eyes.
All of this was corroborated when later in life I enrolled in a Human Services curriculum at a community college in Wilmington, Delaware. I was receiving average "C's" in work in a typing course. I did not have the brain-finger coordination which I wanted. At one point I had expected to be a straight "A" student -- now I was something less. I had never understood the 'exceptional' students at Occidental -- "Was it all in their heads?" Why could I never be what I wanted to be? Was I in the wrong "Divergence Battalion"?
As a result I had always felt 'different' from my classmates and peers. For this I have learned the value of having someone to 'confide in'. In 'Emotional Cognition Treatment' the therapist engages in 'active listening' with the client. Sincerely speaking -- only one person in my life has truly listened to me more than anyone else -- that is my Dad. At this writing, he is 94 years old and resting in a home in Fallbrook, California and I am in Wilmington, Delaware. Although our meaningful talks are over; the regard and love is still there and when we talk the old smiles and familiarity are still present. I will never forget the attention he gave me at a younger age!! And the only thing I can do? Pass it forward!
We learn how to listen -- not to 'reply' -- but to 'understand' !!:
Specifically what Dad did for me was just as good or better than what any therapist could have done. In an acceptable way -- mostly non-judgemental -- he encouraged me to accept myself. If I wasn't as good as the other students I should try my best anyways. If I couldn't type properly then I should find a way around it. If I didn't fit into society, then I needed to develop patience. "There's a place for us -- a time and place for us!" he would imply with an encouraging word. If there were something different about a person then the difference was there for a certain reason. Dad told me that he loved me and that if my God wasn't big enough than I could borrow his!!
As a result my expectations dissolved. As a result I can honestly say that I may have some genes in me that are 'autistic' in nature. As a result I changed my life -- stopped drinking -- reduced any medication I've been on -- made a priority of helping others -- had the humility to look for honest work -- became a lifeguard and taught kids how to swim for ten years. After that? Who knows where I'll go? It's no longer just up to me! I do not necessarily have to have my own path or have to set firm goals. To be flexible means to be ready for anything -- I need to be ready for you. We need to do this together -- we need to love others and help each other as well.
Concluding Remarks:
I want to practice my listening skills fairly, with respect, trust, honest energy, and caring. I want to feel for others and make our relationships be of value. Other than listening to you there may be no other way of serving you. Besides, how else would I ever know how to serve you if I did not listen first?
To build a team we must consider others as well as express ourselves. We have to do things for each other. Common goals come by listening, accepting, and caring.
In review, it is our intent to use emotions in positive and constructive ways. We must solve problems using both logic and feelings, have all people express their needs, and have calm, thoughtful and optimistic responses.
Working as a team we can 'play off each other', learn from each other -- and have all of us become better together.
Sincerely yours;
Respectfully submitted;
Robert N. Franz

Sincerely yours;
Respectfully submitted;
Robert N. Franz
