Emotional Cognition Theory (pt 1) A New Psychoanalytic Therapy

Introduction:

To all concerned: The following Part 1 introduces a new psychoanalytic therapy which has been compiled by Robert N. Franz. The therapy is based on 'Emotional Cognition Theory' which is thoroughly described in the three mentioned books.

How do we relate our emotions to one another?:

You will find this therapy challenging because it makes participants have emotions that they must "work through" before taking any action. As an important note please understand that our definition of "emotion" is made up of many "feelings". In other words -- "feelings" are those constituents which are part of and make up any "emotion". To "live through" an emotion we may have to analyze the feelings which make all parts of it. The emotion of love can be made up of many feelings -- caring & comfort come to mind. Anger can be made up of possessiveness and jealousy. Pain itself can be from a multitude of negative feelings.

Therefore when we analyze emotions we see the feelings which make them up as well as how the emotions relate to each other. For some of us, It is like climbing a pine tree -- for others, we may be 'stuck' in a bush -- all in all we need to discover just how our feelings and emotions are arranged together! This is the quest for each individual -- to know how each of us are made.

How can this be said so it will get your attention?:

The trouble with mental health today is that people are classified into a 'strata' of groups. It is like having a meal for all with "You 'people of color' -- you 'darkies' sitting at the 'kid's' table -- while the rest of us sit at the 'adult' table". Yet in reality none of us need be in the 'dark'!!

What you don't know is that ALL people are susceptible to mental illness. Everyone can be addicted to something -- obsessions are common all throughout our culture. Aberrant thoughts can be off-center either from a breakdown in the brain functioning or just due to immaturity. Some form of violence is prevalent in us all -- not just a few. We all have a touch of mental illness which can magnify at different times in our lives -- and it does.

Therefore at some point we will all need treatment. Also, we cannot be certain of who will give the treatment to us when we need it.

What literature is used to make up this therapy, treatment or theory?:

What I have here is a new treatment -- a new psychoanalytic theory -- based on the work of three books:

(1) The Emotional Brain: The Mysterious Underpinnings of Emotional Life The Emotional Brain The Mysterious Underpinnings of Emotional Life by Joseph E. Ledoux This book describes the physiology of the brain and emotional pathways.

(2) The Stigma of the Mentally Ill: Bob Does Everything Backwards The Stigma of the Mentally Ill Bob Does Everything Backwards by Robert N. Franz This book describes an individual's struggle of mental illness in modern society -- which not only includes his individual struggle, but that of the external groups around him.

(3) Emotional Intelligence Works: Developing "People Smart" Strategies Emotional Intelligence Works Developing "People Smart" Strategies by S. Michael Kravitz This workbook aids therapists, patients, and all others how to go about "emoting with thought". We will need guidance as to how to go about knowing our feelings and then describing the resultant emotions to others. All of this while remaining 'logical' as well!!

By using these three books we can help many in society. Succinctly put, we can learn how to communicate -- with peace -- even when dealing with strong emotion in order to convey information which otherwise would be difficult to express. As some other animal species, we can also cooperate with each other to find just and peaceable goals. We must learn to work together -- for no one person has all of the answers!

What can be done and must NOT be done when practicing this therapy?:

Let it be known that I, as a participant, can work this therapy -- while still believing in 'Christian Existentialism' -- just as it is possible for you to work along side of me with your beliefs as well. In other words all of us together work as 'human helpers' in communicating with each other despite the fact that there are many different groups. The object is to recognize that we are all human and meant to help pass along the energies which come with that fact. We can be glad in variety and rejoice in diversity!

To be human in part means that with energy we pass information to each other which basically "calms us down" and aids us in sustaining the races. To paraphrase one of our founding psychologists -- Albert Ellis of the early 1900's -- "Humans have a tendency to 'disturb themselves' in their own brains when they really don't need to". So much for the 'Walking Well' -- what do the rest of us need? Most likely honest feedback and caring from others.

This has been Part 1 of this presentation of 'Emotional Cognition Theory & Treatment'. Part 2 will come at a later time.

Thank you very much;
Respectfully submitted,

Robert N. Franz

Bartering & the Use of Cash

Pirates bartered with South Sea Islanders using English trinkets for what they wanted. One lira in the Roman Empire meant so much more than the now aluminum minted coin of 50,000 lira -- you can see what inflation there has been in two millennium. Spanish doubloons meant something when the wooden ships sank -- now they are worth hundreds of millions. Cash represents one agreement in our money supply while interest rates are another way of controlling our supply of money.

If I could fish on my island and you could pick pineapples on yours we would trade 2 of my fish for 3 of your pineapples. Thus an economy begins with bartering.

Enter Joe who complicates our trading by offering coconuts from his island. With this new complexity to our economic system it would behoove us all to gain agreement by using a medium of exchange -- cash or money of some sort -- where we could keep track of our purchases. If we became lucky perhaps some pirate would come and offer trinkets so that we could use the trinkets as agreed upon cash. We need to make agreements -- not only for cash -- but for economic and banking reasons as well.

To gain the current true value of fish, pineapples, and coconuts, all those in the economic community must come to a valued conclusion. Should we have an auction to find out what we really value these goods at? Our cash could actually be the very trinkets which the visiting pirates have left to us. We use them to barter -- they are our so-called 'dollars.' In this way these economic values begin our "early" stock market. With daily values for these goods prices tend to "settle" and relative values become more consistent.

Things change. Not only do our mediums of cash change -- but the value of Spanish doubloons increase as the years go by. This could be a nightmare or a profit for an "e-bayer". [Just a note -- where but in America do people feel that others want to buy 'their' "junk"? So much for garage sales & flea markets.] Practically everything is for sale at some time.

Trading today is a collection of cash which becomes a computerized symbol or a mark on paper in an electronic account. Whatever happened to kidney pie, tripe, kippers, scrapple, or pork bellies? Who is being fed what?

The overwhelming key to America's economy is the ability to distribute food effectively and efficiently. Our economy is based on the distribution of food.

How is it that trucks and boxcars haul everything including vegetables, canned soups, boxed starches, and most meats to all corners of our nation? How is it that seafood from Maine, and fruit from Hawaii, as well as other delicacies, are flown and moved to every town in our country -- Fresh!!? All other goods are secondary to food. We need to use our cash for these benefits.

Let's look again at President Truman and Clyde, the village treasurer, when they stimulate the economy by 'magically' making 100 bucks serve as 108 bucks. Life need not heed the game of 'Monopoly'. Incremental addition to the money supply should increase so all may be fed in a continual way. Each individual, family, organization, and business is important in our scheme. Let's get back to healthy basics.

This 'supply of money' is based on the Federal Reserve Prime Rate as well as the amount of cash in the system. It shapes our policies. Slow increases in the Prime Rate need to match productivity. Even added counterfeit money -- when honored -- adds to the total amount of money in the system -- which in other words is the "money supply." All of the money together in the country's system is the "total money supply."

Think of the cash strewn in wallets & purses, the coins stashed in piggy banks, the money in banks, ATM's and businesses, and even bills stuffed in mattresses. Efficiency and effectiveness are keys in our economic system. We need to be accurate in making the total money supply grow to match an increasing productivity in goods and services. The growth of the amount of money we use must match the growth of the economy. That is the agreement -- that is what is meant as the growth of productivity !!

Remember -- the stimulus only remains constant and strong when the slow growth of the money supply matches our productivity. We need to grow -- not too slowly -- not too quickly. For the harvest of the world, our money comes from usable cash and the Prime Rate as it includes all countries.

For our one country -- we must pay attention to what is going on here. Our "dollar" border from other countries is just that -- a boundary. Economic policy should always be different country to country unlike what is going on within one country alone. We are a 'united states' -- we use the same currency throughout our nation.

We need to be fruitful ! We need to work with others on our planet. Let's get this right. Let's value people ! Let's do things to make productivity honestly grow !!

Thank you very much.

How Does It Work?

President Harry Truman was credited with the statement, "The buck stops here!" But is this really true? Let's look closer:

Let's take a simple village where citizens don't have much to do. Let's say that we give 100 bucks to Harold -- a treasurer -- who then loans out money to the businesses of the village.

Katrina owns a spinning wheel and weaves cloth. Keesha is a seamstress and makes clothes. Garry uses leather & urethane to make shoes. Felicidad makes great cornbread and Olga can supply paper such as napkins and plates. Bob can produce a crude manner of making light bulbs and needed wiring. In total these 6 individuals borrow 60 bucks from Harold. Each one gets 10 bucks to start their business.

The last 40 bucks go to 2 businesses. Abel & Butch need 20 bucks to make a windmill which grinds cornmeal and provides electricity for the light bulbs. Now children can learn how to read in their beds each evening in the village. Joining in this are Juan and Efrem who have a method of bringing potable water to the citizens. They receive the last 20 bucks. Since water is essential -- all are grateful. [In these last two business there are 2 co-owners.]

One might say that the buck stops at 100 bucks because that is what was allocated to the bank. But does it?

Since the bank has to make money as well; by decree, Harry Truman has the bank charge 5% interest on the original 100 bucks. Each business of the village must pay back to the bank 5% more than it borrowed from it.

Do you see what happens?

The supply of money has increased in this village system by a little more than 5%. There is a limit -- a finite number -- which now makes the total supply of money more than 100 bucks. In fact -- in estimation by using calculus -- the total money supply is closer to 108 bucks. Almost magically the money supply is greater; but now, if you will, consider the benefits:

There is more commerce and positive activity in the village. Even though more money has come into the system, there is still a 'stimulus' which has added more business activity. "Harry, the treasurer, has done good!" so they say! People seem happier -- others have sustenance!

The problems which come to our village are 'cautionary' problems:

(a) If the money supply goes up too quickly over the pace of productivity, then there will be inordinate inflation.
(b) If work slows down, then there will be reasons leading to deflation.

But these problems can be dealt with using a slow growth maintenance of the economy. Interest rates must match the productivity of our village. In some cases we also have to consider nearby villages and how they affect our village's economy.

Other problems surface when the banks make and keep too much money. Because of certain considerations banks are able to make even more money by either:

(1) Swallowing the money supply and making scads of bucks.
(2) Without regulation -- by offering different loan rates to different individuals or businesses, and finally by
(3) Adding on fees and/or penalties for other services.

Although banks need to make money, they also should know that as part of the system they also need to be regulated -- just as we regulate the power company and potable water businesses in our village. For the good of each village and our total society, we must have the major conglomerates be able to serve each individual part of the system. Banks are just as socially important as power and water systems !! All of us must be considered.

With discernment, should you now be willing to cast a 'Write-in' vote for me for U.S.House from Delaware then click on this link: electionsncc.delaware.gov/use_vm/writ...

I end this essay with the knowledge that there will be more. Next I will write a shorter second piece which stresses other considerations in our 'global' village. I also have to listen to others' input as well. We all do!
Thank you for your patience.

"The buck stops" when we all get at least a morsel to eat -- if you think this way -- then you are not in a self-centered way of thinking! Should you believe this way then Godspeed to you! If you do not believe in the gods then just say a 'human' "grace!" We'll talk later!
Thank you!

The Shooting Problem: Solutions!

What would progressive Bernie Sanders and conservative Bill O'Reilly agree on?

If they would at least discuss these lawful points then I would ask you to vote for me -- Robert N. Franz -- for the U.S. House seat from the state of Delaware in 2016. Here is my link for a 'Write-in' vote: electionsncc.delaware.gov/use_vm/writ...

(Written right after the "Pulse" nightclub tragedy):

Out of necessity and certain decency I now call myself a 'gay & lesbian sympathizer'. The citizens of the United States need to care for and protect all the people. Throughout my years I have seen vulnerable of all types, and although being gay & lesbian does not necessarily beget vulnerability, it does when one is at the mercy of a homophobic gunman.

Forty-nine innocents killed -- fifty-three injured -- many of them needing life saving operations. A dead shooter -- a deeply troubled individual with no mercy and compunction. I wonder if anyone ever prayed for him. I wonder if he ever prayed for himself. I wonder if he saw "cattle in the marketplace" or ever teared up listening to "A Bridge Over Troubled Water".

In his primary and middle school years he most likely learned what he thought was 'citizenship' -- whatever that meant to him. His high school and later years brought academic specialization and I suppose a vocational interest in armaments.

Without getting into his head I can only say that his automatic weapons only magnified his temperamental, affective disorder. From rapid firing weapons to the individual's emotional state the answers must come from all sides of the issue.

After watching 'The Late Show' -- (On CBS, Monday, 6/13/2016) -- with Steven Colbert interviewing Bill O'Reilly -- plus adding some ideas of my own -- solutions need to be considered:

(*1*) We need to identify volatile, isolated, individuals and keep track of them much like neighbors keep track of the elderly and homeless on unbearably hot or frigid days. A neighborly visit can go far. The medical profession needs to be ready to be alerted for necessary treatment and medical response. Legal officials may need to be contacted as well. There needs to be more house calls from social workers.

(*2*) The U.S. Congress needs to make mandatory sentencing for crimes committed with guns. This should occur as federal law in conjunction with (or above) state law. Penalties and prison should come Federally 'and' from the State. Federal prison sentences have been known to stop the use of guns and armaments by criminals.

(*3*) The U.S. Congress needs to state specifically what types of guns need to be banned. A law such as this was passed in 1996 as a trial and was deemed successful. Unfortunately the law became obsolete and no longer covers the banning of certain guns and weapons. We need to pass a similar law now.

(*4*) The U.S. Congress needs to declare war on groups -- NOT necessarily countries -- which push and inordinately promote Islamic jihadism. There are five to six of these groups in the world now and once morphed there may be more. We have to delineate between Islamic religions, Islamic countries, and Islamic jihadist groups. If this were done then N.A.T.O. could get involved in relevant world affairs, and the F.B.I., A.T.F., and other organizations could at the least detain individuals who become radicalized within the U.S. borders. The actual bickering of words must stop and our leaders must stop obfuscating as to what is meant by the word 'jihad.' 'Jihad' must be seen as an issue !

(*5*) I've spoken with Superior Court Judge Charles Toliver in Delaware who stated that "if you don't want to get into trouble, then don't put yourself in trouble's way." This statement not only applies to perpetrators, but victims and cops as well. Take care of yourself and look for good friends. If you don't drink then it is difficult to obtain a 'Driving Under the Influence' summons. Consequences result from the circumstances which you allow yourself to get into, as well as, your basic attitude about where you are in life.

Basic 'posturing' by elected officials must stop and the willingness to be open-minded and honest needs to prevail. Elected officials need to also become public servants.

My God!! -- I have to cheer up and that fact is difficult! Something tells me that whoever draws the 'short-straw' becomes President of these United States. It used to be in the late 20th century all the wars we became involved in were initiated and sustained by our President. [Unlike WWI, WWII, and other wars which had been waged with legislative body approval.] Now Congress can begin a war with an unprepared Commander-in-Chief. Man, I do not want to go there! I do not want to be a President who is forced into war!!

I may seek to be a member of the U.S.House of Representatives, but I abhor the thought of ever becoming President of these United States!

In the end though we have to stop the violence. At the least, make sure that you vote!! Still, I seek the Delaware seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. It may be possible to help in this way. Thank you.

Sincerely written, and
Respectfully submitted,

Please -- I Ask For Your Help -- Robert N. Franz

Please know that to have my name on the Delaware ballot to seek the seat of U.S. Representative to Congress for 2016 I need your help in getting signatures to the Office of the State Election Commissioner by July 15, 2016. I now ask for your help.

You may have gotten to know me as Robert Franz from Wilmington, Delaware on Facebook.com. You may also know me as the author of The Stigma of the Mentally Ill: Bob Does Everything Backwards The Stigma of the Mentally Ill Bob Does Everything Backwards by Robert N. Franz You may also know me from my blog linkage: amazon.com/author/rf3rd. In all cases I want you to know that I want to represent you -- Delawareans -- in Congress. Please -- I ask for your assistance in obtaining signatures to be on the state's November ballot. This year I will run as "Unaffiliated" from any other political party. Thank you!

(1) Please download this petition and have other Delaware registered voters sign the forms. The voters can be of any political party. They even may have signed forms for other candidates to be on the ballot. The purpose here is to have Robert N. Franz III on the ballot in November 2016. It is not mandatory to give Social Security or voter registration numbers.

Petition linkage (please copy):

Petition to Secure Ballot Status

(2) At the top of each page of the petition please print my name as such -- "Franz III, Robert N." -- the position I am seeking: "U.S. House Representative from Delaware" -- and my party which is "Unaffiliated".

The petition may be copied as many times as needed.

(3) Each page of the petition can at the most take 10 signatures. In the left hand boxes please sign your name and then print your name legibly in the space (box) beneath. In the middle space (boxes) please print your voting address including Zip Code. Then please designate the county and date signed. ["N.C.C." stands for New Castle County] Again, one does 'Not' have to write their Social Security number or voter registration number -- that would be optional.

(4) Once the signatures are on the page please have the collector sign the petition and date with their address in the presence of a Notary Public or authorized lawyer from the state of Delaware. You may find these Notaries at many banks or lawyers wherever lawyers congregate. They do not need to see each individual sign the form -- just the person collecting the signatures. Please remember that a Notary or Lawyer has to sign in their designated spot on each page as well.

(5) Finally send or bring all notarized petitions -- whether they have 10 signatures or not -- to the following office by 4:30pm on Friday, July 15, 2016:

State of Delaware
Office of the State Election Commissioner
905 South Governors Avenue Suite 170
Dover, Delaware 19904

It is imperative that all signed petitions be at the Office of the Delaware State Election Commissioner by July 15, 2016. All signatures count! Any taken to them later than that time will not be counted. Transport can be from any means possible -- on foot, by car or bus, 'Fed-Ex', 'UPS', U.S.Post, taxi, or even 'Star Trek transporter' -- if that were possible. The signatures must get there on time!

I will not know the exact amount of signatures provided until the Office of the State Election Commissioner informs me. Most likely, it would be after they all had been submitted and collected.

In some ways this could be considered a massive task. Yet getting the signatures by Friday, July 15, 2016 is possible. By doing so it will get me on the ballot!

One per cent of the electorate is what I need. For this I am looking to obtain 7,100 signatures. That works out to about 200 people getting 35 signatures apiece -- or 100 persons getting 70 signatures apiece -- or as yet 70 persons obtaining 100 signatures apiece. Any other combination would do as well. Just a few signatures from you would be welcomed. With some effort it can be accomplished. I believe!!

Even just a little would be well worth it. "For those who do not try will nothing happen for them. For those who say -- 'I will' -- will the benefits abound!" It was either Alexander the Great, Bobby Kennedy, or a Christian Existentialist who said this.

I thank you so very much for any effort you take on our behalf. Personally, I feel that it could be a benefit for all of us. But you be the judge. I modestly ask for your help. I cannot do this alone. Thank you!

Sincerely written, and
Respectfully submitted,

Robert N. Franz

Beliefs; Robert N. Franz (part 2)

Two issues which still have to be faced and solved in the early 21st century by the U.S. of A. are health and education: Briefly speaking, it must be said that as education goes -- it certainly influences the outcome of our healthcare. To take them on now carries as much weight on our GDP as our defense expenditures.

We do not have to have healthcare as Sweden or Denmark but we do have to have healthcare for our people. The private method of the late 20th century failed a majority of us and President Obama's health insurance, which covers 90% of the population, would run up more expenses.

I recommend that we look more to what the British are doing with their system. Costs are less per capita. In this case their Parliament decides how much expenditures cost for care and research. In this way there would not be 'middlemen' jacking up the cost of care every year. The major problem would be the supply of health care specialists and 'waiting times'. Another concern is what it would do to the 'Hippocratic Oath'. Perhaps we should then consider the training in which professionals would obtain responsibility, noting, of course, that values have to be upheld -- not only for the direct healthcare but for healthcare suppliers as well. Why should meds be "jacked-up" as well?

To look for the upholding of values please now see how one may offer a 'Write-in' vote for Robert N. Franz for U.S. Congress from the state of Delaware. Click on this link: electionsncc.delaware.gov/use_vm/writ... Thank you !

Education is essential for the care of a country as well. For socialization and early learning I recommend universal pre-K. Let the youngsters learn how to get along with each other well before the actions and drudgery of primary and middle school. This could just prevent a later 'gun war' in some student's lives !

Remember that primary and middle schools build a foundation of how to work in later life. What we learn there determines how we find habits, values, and the need for patience, tolerance and fortitude. All school is important -- these grades determine what kind of citizens we will be.

High school and early college form times when interests pique and 'apprenticeships' are formed. I know one doctor who learned how to paint artistically, and a chemical engineer who learned the skills of woodworking. Both upon their retirement learned more and worked further at these occupations of opportunity.

M.A.'s, M.S.'s, legal degree seekers and holders, Ph.D.'s and M.D.'s work with specialized training. These very responsible individuals become professionals much as other students gain trades. All of these 'specialists' use learning by academics and "hands on" work. Since they learn - 'in the field' - not always do great costs have to be incurred. Essentially they learn 'en vivo'!

We look for less expensive ways to get an education. Learning should not be an exercise which is purely academic -- instead the "hands on" approach means that it will be more realistic and less expensive. People need to be rewarded for what they can do and not necessarily because of the 'letters' after their names.

There is a right and a wrong. We need to be able to learn 'en vitro' as well as 'en vivo'!! Yet, we need to get back to the colleges which Senator Bernie Sanders and so many others attended in New York City years ago. Many people became very successful using community colleges almost specifically because of other responsibilities they held along with their studies. Neighborhood work and children are very important !

As far as the rest of us are concerned there should be some form of debt forgiveness. If not that then listen to President Bill Clinton who recently said that the entire package of each student's debt should be consolidated and treated as a "mortgage with no increasing debt." President Clinton then said, "In that way the students would not have to live in their parent's house when they would be 35 to 40 years old!" [Like he has that problem] Although he comes from a different world than most of us -- he seems to value education for all of us.

In these ways we know that there is nothing wrong with going to any community college -- for our training for the future not only comes with academics, but practical experience too!

So therefore in this case, my issue with conservative thought is that we have to help instead of hinder. 'If you are frustrated with the game -- then we have to change the rules'! Education must be more of a right than a privilege in modern America. When all of us know how to read, perhaps we can all be fed as well !

Finally, I have to say that all of these issues need not be put together awkwardly -- or eclectically -- but more so that each individual can grow to be a healthy, responsible citizen in the society of our country.

There will of course be more later -- there always is -- but in these ways we can have a framework of how to 'work' in America ! Efficient, 'and' effective methods need to be applied.

May God bless you if you desire it. May peace be yours!

Sincerely written, and
Respectfully submitted,

Beliefs; Robert N. Franz (part 1)

To vote for and support Robert N. Franz for Delaware's U.S. House of Representative seat in Congress you should know what he believes. Here, very succinctly, are his thoughts on major issues:

First please know that this list of political beliefs is just that: a list. Fine nuanced writing is saved for another time. Second -- should you be interested -- here included is a link in which you may receive directions on how to place a "Write-in" vote for Robert N. Franz. Please use this link accordingly: electionsncc.delaware.gov/use_vm/writ... Thank you !

Now for Robert N. Franz's political beliefs:

We should only become aggressive as a country if duly provoked. This means that we should not use aggressive missions unless U.S. lives are at stake. We should not go to war unless threatened with no other recourse by another force or forces. Only true provocation should lead us to the beginnings of war.

Guns too are an issue. Certainly if a certain people such as the Chinese invade the U.S. of A., it may be prudent to have guns in the hands of our people. But honestly -- I really do not know now what the National Rifle Association wants to do with guns in our society. Is the N.R.A. in the pocket of gun dealers? Why is it so difficult to limit the possession of guns with criminals and the insane? We need to do more with this. We need to see results !

There needs to be a truce -- or moratorium so to speak -- between authorities such as the police -- and those who feel threatened by the outcomes of certain current tragedies. For some time the discussion needs to be made a discussion (and kept as one) so that people can learn how to live safely. We must remain open to hear all sides which foment social unrest.

Our classes of society are suffering from more than physical aggression -- it seems like the problem is one of uncaring financial aggression by the institutions which have the money. In fact, we all need to be taught that we are inexplicably connected to each other. People need to see their own responsible role in society no matter what institution teaches them about these roles.

I am all for the maligned and the vulnerable having protection. From the mentally ill being led to become suicide bombers, to the hermaphrodite not being able to use a bathroom, to students crushed by debt, and individuals not being able to work for a living wage -- people are being used in our world. There is too much hunger in the United States as well. The vulnerable have to be able to live in peace and work for a true living -- we all need to be free enough to pursue positive outcomes in our lives. Values for all must be promoted.

Certainly the middle class needs help -- for after all it is disappearing. I am for strong taxation of the highest 1% of incomes in the U.S. and stringent taxation of the highest 1/10th of 1% of the highest incomes. What most people don't know is that even with taxation such as this, the wealthy will still stay rich and the ranking of society's wealthy will not change.

I also want to help small independent businesses. Most people do not consider that many doctors and lawyers are small businesspersons as well. From local diners to ice cream stands and auto repair shops all the way to professionals in business -- small enterprise is getting crushed. We need to tax large corporations and not treat those corporations as individuals. Again, let individuals only contribute to political campaigns and keep the large corporate donations to virtually nil. Corporate taxation must again resurface as we need to have individuals -- not corporations -- donate politically.

I studied chemistry in college. My first published paper was co-authored with Dr. Frank Lambert and Mr. Bruce Hasslinger of Occidental College as we studied models of what was happening in the smog of our atmosphere. Dr. Lambert initiated the study of the reduction of carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur compounds (carbon tetrachloride, nitriles, thiosulfates) in our atmosphere by using a model method at the glassy carbon electrode. Now in our world we have massive carbon dioxide heat domes which move and effect our weather. Creation or not -- we need to tend to environmental issues.

Our land and water supplies are also affected by fracking and coal burning. Even now because of drilling and recent fracking, the Midwest is having earthquakes like they have never seen before. Heat movement causes stronger tornadoes and now larger hurricanes in warmer waters. The Midwest, along with the bulk of the United States is being hit with increasingly stronger weather events. We 'must' know that our world is changing -- adjustments 'must' be made.

I can talk 'science' to those who speak the language. Whereas my chemistry degree does not make me a specific expert -- I am able manage concepts and can discuss issues with Ph.D.'s and other experts. With true science I can lead others to more satisfactory adjustments. My knowledge leads to managerial over experiential science.

Society too is changing. To state the truth, I feel uncomfortable with abortion but do not care if decent adoptive parents are gay. From "Annie" to "Oliver Twist" many orphans have done well in life -- why can't more? As long as there is value and respect for the living -- answers can be found.

It is how a society treats it's young which determines it's future. We must raise and teach our young with the benefits that will help them to function well in their future. That is our history -- that will be our legacy.

For those who haven't had helpful or adequate chances we need to offer remedial tutoring -- certain others -- such as current leaders may do well to take 'finishing school' courses! We will need to tailor our help!

This ends Part 1 of my political beliefs. Part 2 will come shortly and primarily will cover the issues of health and education. May a higher power bring you Godspeed!

Sincerely written, and
Respectfully submitted,

Robert N. Franz

Robert N. Franz: An Introduction

As I distribute my business cards you will find the amazon.com/author/rf3rd link. Please save this linkage and including this post use the link to view the next three postings.

First I want you to be able to read all ten current essays at my author site. Then, please know, that by clicking onto the next title at the top of the page -- or also the previous title -- you will be able to navigate to all of my essays. There are over 76 postings and you will be able to see my thoughts on topics and issues as well as my background.

Periodically -- perhaps a couple of times a week -- new essays are added to this blog and you will be able to see what I believe. Some will be rewritten for easier understanding and I thank you for your attention to these matters.

I stand for social, environmental, scientific, economic, religious, and political solutions. I believe that with a combined effort using patience, tolerance, and grit we can find solutions and cures to our country's problems. With a calm demeanor we all should be able to find workable answers to the questions at hand. All of us need to work towards the "survival of the species" and instead of 'pointing the finger' we need to see our part of each issue.

Robert N. Franz's -- my book -- The Stigma of the Mentally Ill: Bob Does Everything Backwards The Stigma of the Mentally Ill Bob Does Everything Backwards by Robert N. Franz states how some vulnerable people have been treated in our society. The object now is to 'save' people and remedy the social and financial abyss's in which so many find themselves falling into. To guide all of us into treating each other in a right way I have included a 13 blog post essay posting entitled "Emotional Cognition Therapy". (This will soon be posted again on the blog.) Many psychologists have described their theories in the 20th century -- this theory is mine. We need decent ways of treating and trusting each other and must also see where the middle class can be helped.

All of us need to socially, spiritually, mentally, physically, and even financially treat each other well so that we all may survive. It takes effort to begin to change -- we look for motives to do just that.

Since I desire to be Delaware's U.S. House Representative, I need to state my background:

For my first 12 years of school I attended the public school system in the East Bay of Northern California -- The Mt. Diablo Unified School District. Then I went to the private Occidental College in Los Angeles and graduated Cum Laude in chemistry. Some years before U.S. Representative and Vice President candidate Jack Kemp had also graduated from Occidental. President Barack Obama had attended Occidental for two years before transferring to Columbia University. The students at Occidental have prided themselves as being a microcosm of diverse society -- we certainly have had differences of opinion.

In Delaware's higher education system -- at three different colleges in the state -- I had studied social work for one year, and taken other courses in human services, psychology, marketing, and economics as well as had completed 3 statistics courses.

For my part I have worked in hospitals and nursing homes, at construction, in small business, as well as worked with two major multi-national corporations. I have also worked teaching swimming, as a lifeguard, in retail, as an addictions counselor, and as a co-director to a mental health service provider. In certain other ways I appreciate community activism.

With much effort put into my studies, along with the experience of being a victim of crime, I appreciate the situations of the vulnerable and their needs in society.

Please know that I am here to help. My next essay will show where I stand on issues facing Delawareans and the nation. Thank you.

Sincerely written, and
Respectfully submitted,

A Letter About My Intentions For Candidacy

To:
Administrators
Delaware Department of Health & Social Services

Cabinet Secretary
Medical Director
Director -- Division of Substance Abuse & Mental Health

Dear Honorable Madame & Distinguished Sirs:

As you say, I do care about helping others but I want you to know that I care about 'my' business as well.

Please consider these golfing analogies as they apply to my life:

(+) Grand Slam winner Jack Nicklaus -- when asked which shot was most important to his game replied, "The most important shot I ever have is the very next one!"

(+) Champion Gary Player -- while practicing shots in a sand trap was told by another golfer that "only the lucky shot would put the ball into or near the cup." Mr. Player's response was, "Yes, and the more I practice -- the luckier I become!"

(+) Like the winning golfers I must finish out and complete each game by "playing 'my' game" and not fall prey to the treacheries of trying to follow someone else. I must know myself, my abilities, and do things on 'my' terms.

Please know as my administrative acquaintances that:

(1) Robert Franz needs to be useful.
(2) Robert Franz can do more than just write and counsel the needy.
(3) And finally that Robert Franz will seek valued employment which could lead to a career in government work.

To do the next right thing in front of me is the important thing to do. At this time there is no need for haste. I will continue my daily disciplines, be active in my church and community, volunteer in the prisons, and continue to aid in the maintenance and promotion of self-help groups. I look for some 'write-in' votes to be collected in my name in the fall for the U.S. House of Representatives seat from Delaware.

Thank you for your consideration to this email. Included are links to my work.

Sincerely written, and
Respectfully submitted,

Robert N. Franz

Seeking a Thriving World (Part B)

Survival is essential to cultures and religions. In some sense each can be compared to a successful business although in many ways this is not a fair statement. It is fair, however, to say that people make up a religion and that each of them gives a portion of their lives honoring their faith.

Economically speaking all products and businesses have a lifespan. This means that Wonder Bread and Rice Chex both have a birth going to a final ending. Dr. Pepper may have a more colorful life (since at one time it was an elixir) -- but all in all, the lifespan of products also defines the lifespan of many a business.

So too -- I believe that religions have lifespans and 'births' so to speak. Please see The Stigma of the Mentally Ill: Bob Does Everything Backwards The Stigma of the Mentally Ill Bob Does Everything Backwards by Robert N. Franz The purpose of religion for this consideration is to give man a sense of emotional security based on a belief in a 'higher power'. When we feel part of a religion we therefore feel more complete. It can even be said that the birth of atheism has come just in the last couple of centuries. Others in religious thought began much earlier.

Hinduism, Taoism and Buddhism go back to the ancients. The Jewish faith can be traced back to 4,000 years BC while Christianity began in the last 2,000 years. Islam began in religiosity about 700 to 800 years ago.

I maintain that there are similarities in the growth of religions. Each one had a 'birth' to work through. For example, Christianity had to compete with Greek and Roman gods as well as the Judeo traditions. As Christianity grew it went through an aggressive adolescent stage whereby the religionists faced the Inquisition and the Crusades. This is one way the religion spread.

Now I feel that Islam is going through much the same thing. As a religion its members are trying to "spread the word" among the people of the world and they do this at a great cost. Right now the attitude of the Islamic leaders does not have the maturity that other more ancient religions have. This is not to say that they will never have the maturity. Given time the religion will mature and most likely will be a great force in the history of global society. It needs to find its place. Please do not denigrate a religion that at this particular time is sensitive to "growing pains" Truly they must know as well -- respect for all is needed.

Religions can give uncommon strength to individuals, yet religions compete -- just like people. It is shameful when they compete with guns, knives, bombs and swords -- instead of by words and writings. Remember, the conception of 'Logic' began adjacent to varied religions when people of different faiths had to communicate with different values. 'Logic' therefore became a value for agreements. With today's religious -- we need a new 'Logic' more than ever. Who will start the dialogue?

In a similar way we need to celebrate our uniqueness while at the same time respect a "melting pot". How do we look at brown, black, yellow, red and white people? We know that similarities attract in this sea of individuals, yet we have to -- at the same time -- accept 'multiracial' babies. With this in mind it is best for everyone that caring and love always be shown.

What happens when racial, economic, or other bias is not confronted fairly by the religions? What safeguards do families and individuals have when injustice or prejudice is perpetrated onto them?

It is the religions who must come up with the words of 'Logic' and learn to communicate with each other so that humankind does not have to suffer from any form of treachery which could cause inequality and strife. In the end, we all must trust to learn how to communicate in ways that all nations and cultures will understand. For this we will need universal willingness and the ability to understand all presented terms. With concentrated work and unhindered communication the world may find a new language.

"Why won't you try this?" -- it could help us all!!

Respectfully submitted,
