In a Writing Rut [1]
I seem to be in a writing rut.
I suppose that some writers would welcome being in a writing rut. That rut being writing every day. Posting every week. Having a bunch of unfinished projects. I suppose that is not such a bad rut to be in. But it is still a rut.
The worst thing about being in a rut is that the sides of the rut seem so steep. No matter how hard you turn the steering wheel, the tires do not turn. They are stuck in the rut. They just keep going forward. But going forward in ...

State Track and Field Meet 2022
Ah. It is a great feeling going back to the State Track and Field Meet.
There is nothing like a championship Track and Field (T&F) meet. Especially, the one for your own state. We are headed back to the state T&F meet after two years of not having one. Two years ago, we had two weeks of practice before being shut down. Last year, we had a shortened season with no championship or invitational meets. So going back to the state meet is like a breath of fresh air. Rare air at that.

I am like Stephen King.
It is not really true, but I will still say it. I am a bit like Stephen King. That is, I write every day. Or at least I write six days a week. Which to me is every day. No. I can count. I just make sure that I take a day off from writing. I rest one day a week. Which is good for me.
But back to my thesis statement.
I am really only like Stephen King in that I write every day. Or what...

Still Writing
I apologize if it seems that the quality of my blog posts is going down. (As if it could sink any lower.) I have been busy working on other writing projects.
I wonder how I used to do it. It being blogging every week just writing one day a week. I suppose that I did not do it very well. Of course, I would not know since I rarely go back and read my old stuff. What is the point? It is already out there on the internet. Forever. Sure, I could fix things up after the fact, but it does not...

Ideas Are Fleeting
I am sure I have written about it before, but I must say again that ideas are fleeting.
No matter what kind of creative person you are, ideas are fleeting. They are like fast butterflies. You need to have the net or the camera ready to capture them before they flit away at the speed of sound. Or maybe the speed of light. At any rate, ideas are certainly fleeting.
Many creative people carry notebooks or sketchbooks with them wherever they go. It is smart. Capture those ideas before they fl...

Somebody’s Sixtieth Birthday
If somebody you know is having a sixtieth birthday, make sure that you say HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
Some people downplay the fact that they are turning a certain age. Fifty. Sixty. Seventy. One-Hundred. Okay. Maybe people do not downplay 100, but they often do downplay other milestone years. Those decade years seem to be the ones. So when somebody turns thirty or fifty or sixty, make sure to commemorate those years. At least make sure that you let those people know you are thinking about them o...

Write Something Profound
I would like to write something profound. Just once.
I am not sure that writers really set out to write things that are profound, but then again, maybe they do. Some surely succeed. Some surely do not. Or maybe that is just perception. Perhaps writers who seem profound never really did set out to write anything profound. Perhaps they just set out to write. Perhaps they felt compelled to write. And in all the writing that they did, somebody found something profound. Whether it was meant...

In Threes
Bad things do not always come in threes. Neener neener.
I am writing this anticipating that bad things do not really come in threes. Thumbing my nose at fate so to speak. As if I believed in fate anyway. But anyway.
Heat and water. And heated water. Creature comforts. Once we are clothed, housed, and fed (maybe in that order), we like our creature comforts. We like to be warm. We like to have hot water. We like to bathe. We like our creature comforts, because we like to be comfortabl...

More Musings on Masks
Masks are interesting. We wear them for Halloween. We wear them for the pandemic. We wear them to hide. And sometimes the masks are not even physical.
I thought the first days without the mask mandates in our state were rather interesting. When I was at the local coffee shop all the employees were wearing masks and over half of the customers were as well. And when I went to school, it seemed that a bit over fifty percent of the students and staff were wearing masks too. I was actually a ...
