Getting Home (Flash)
Summer was just on the edge of that last cold breath gifted to us by a winter desperate not to leave and a spring utterly confused as to where its loyalties belonged. I didn’t understand what was happening.
I’m not an idiot. I knew what just not why. The rush of wind. The absolute silence apart from the torrential rush that made me feel like I was helmetless on a motorcycle. The unmistakable cloud rising up from the city.
But why?
There were rumors of the march to war. Yet we’d heard the same...

Bone are
these arms & legs
toes
and even fingertips
stretching across time and
geography
- a body.
You feel it,
know it,
because you’re still there
among the ideals or because
the negative space
of where you once
clustered
haunts.
Don’t fear the loss;
the farther you fall
the closer you come to
a waiting fertility made
rich
by the hustle
of fighting gravity

L&P #26
I am constant
when all else is a
whirlpool of hope’s defamation and
the lonely’s desperation.
At least,
this is the lie I tell
myself
in moments lost in the crowd
when individuality is wrung dry
and I know myself
nothing more than another
water lily
floating
in Monet’s pond.

Getting Tail (Flash Fiction)
Managing a whorehouse is a lot like playing house with 20 hormonally charged teenagers. Except that’s only part of the promise of exhaustion the current Madame is dangling over my head. Then there’s the parade of john’s and jane’s, the hygiene, and staying ahead of the law.
Not that the law is overly concerned about the sexual proclivities of the staff or clientele of Heaven’s Rest, paid or otherwise. Life has become more civilized since the days of street walking. Assassination is still frow...

L&P #25
All of us,
through crust
or eyes hungry for the day,
prepare with ritual and
style
for what lies ahead.
Centuries past piled like bricks, mothers and
fathers
did the same,
with plated armor
or binding corset,
with shelf-like bodices
or a blade.
We have the same battles
to fight
for fragile dreams,
against self, and
in spite of
history.

L&P #24
Insanity;
you’ve defined it as a doing
the same thing over
and over
expecting a different result.
Then I am nothing
more than
the star inmate snug
in a stark white
jacket.
I wake with an
expectation
to walk the same
path
with no more than hope to
walk a little truer,
hold a little
tighter
with each step
to the path my dreams
demand
