All of us,
through crust
or eyes hungry for the day,
prepare with ritual and
style
for what lies ahead.
Centuries past piled like bricks, mothers and
fathers
did the same,
with plated armor
or binding corset,
with shelf-like bodices
or a blade.
We have the same battles
to fight
for fragile dreams,
against self, and
in spite of
history.
