My Wall o'Charlotte

CharlotteProphesyOne of the perks of having a supportive partner in your writing endeavors is that you can do things such as taking over a part of your house. Such as a wall. See, I realized after finishing the first draft of Charlotte Gnoll that there are a lot of moving parts to the story, which you can read more about in Editing Charlotte. And I couldn’t track of all of those parts in my head alone.

There’s the gang of baddies, gang of goodies, story of the gods, Charlotte’s family back on earth, a system...

Editing Charlotte

ColourfulEditsEditing is a tortuous process for some people, reading word after word of your own script…letters bleeding of the page in favor of ice cream and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Me, I find writing more difficult. Editing is the fun part, where I get to mix and match, take a little from here and a lot from there to create a much better whole than when I started.

Not that it’s all sunshine and roses. I stillget to see how awful my words are. But such is the function of the writer: confronting your per...

Mind Mapping Charlotte

One of the most difficult things about creating any long narrative with lots of characters and several plots is keeping it all straight. And not just in your head. Doesn’t quite work if the narrative’s cleaner in your head that it is on paper.

The most frustrating thing for me when reading a book or watching a movie/TV show is when logic gets thrown out the window. A character makes a choice inconsistent with their persona. Or a group of characters magically appear; somehow defeating the cons...

Charlotte Gnoll: The Cover

Pietari Posti

Pietari Posti Untitled

Alongside editing, finding a cover for your book is one of those things you just have to admit that you can’t do for yourself. Unless, of course, you’ve become adept at drawing and Photoshop. My drawing is limited to stick figures and my Photoshopping ain’t what you call grand. And I don’t particularly want to learn.

Well, that’s not true. I do very much want to learn. But I also have so much to write that I don’t want anything else taking up my time beyond Belle and my...

Poetry: L&P #11 - Blind Faith

There’s a dizzying blizzard
without snow
A blinding thunderstorm
with no rain
The infusion of the past
The confusion of the present
All laid before future’s trepidation
It’s scary
Never knowing
Never seeing
But be at peace
There’s no cliff, no precipice
You’ll not topple
only stumble,
which still propels you
forward.
And that,
is all you can ask for

Poetry: L&P #10 - Percussion

The beat pops,
pressing you forward.
A cadence,
or progression,
never calls you back.
All you have
is a constant march.
Maybe you’ve a hazy memory
teasing you
to look back too fondly.
Failures and victories,
happenstance and plans
are just mists of the mind.
The influence is only
internal.
The beat does not change.

Poetry: L&P #9 - Cardinality.

You head left
You turn right
You even walk backward
Again and again
Incomprehensible circles
You say to just follow the path
Why?
The path is a distraction
The destination is straight ahead

Flash Fiction: Happenstance is the Best Kind of Stance

Once upon a time there was a quiet young girl who liked a young boy. The young boy was quite strange which was quite appealing to the young girl. One cold winter day she summoned the courage to ask the boy out.

Out to where, she didn’t know and couldn’t say when the young boy asked. The young girl hadn’t thought that far ahead. He stammered, reaching out to her with an absurd suggestion when she turned bright red from embarrassment. He was a strange boy but even he knew not to turn down a cou...
