Workshop One Is Done

I took a look at my blog tonight and was surprised to see that more than a week had passed since my last entry. I guess I have been in some sort of a summer time warp this past week! With all the drawing I've been doing, and the swimming and barbecues and hikes and four-square and frisbee and parties I haven't had much time for the internet. ALSO, I totally forgot to post anything about the first workshop which wrapped up last week.

It was awesome! We had a fantastic bunch of students who re

GLASSes!!?!

Saturday marked the end of an era for me. After 16 years of wearing glasses with no lenses in them, I finally donned my first real pair of prescription glasses. (!!?!)

While I was back home in Seattle, I went to an optometrist to get my eyes checked out for the first time in about ten years. Recently I have had little hints here and there that my eyesight had diminished, so I thought I should get my eyes checked out. The main thing I was interested in finding out, was whether an eye test c

Accio HP6!!!

Well, I finally went to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince last night, and as I predicted, seeing that movie was like the most awesome bummer ever. It is a pretty dark chapter in the HP saga, and even though I knew everything that was going to happen, I still cried through the entire second half of the movie.

I made my peace long ago with the fact that the filmmakers have to cut out about half of the books out to make a watchable movie. Initially this really bothered me, but now I'm sort o

What Would Dumbledore Do?

Pretty much the only thing I flat out DON'T LIKE about White River Junction is the fact that there is no movie theater here. I don't have a car, and the closest theater, while only a short bike ride away, is pretty much a pile of garbage (small dirty screens, rotting chairs, bad sound, rude staff, etc. etc.) It's not the kind of place where you would want to see an important movie... Like, hmmm... I don't know....

HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE.

This is all to say that HP6 comes out

Married!

I woke up this morning in Portland, Oregon and I just now stepped in the door, back here in Vermont. The CCS Summer Workshops start TOMORROW, so I don't have time to write a "full-length" blog recap (I know, I know, lucky you!) Here instead, are the highlights from my week away:

An impromptu 4th of July lunch with Liz Prince and her boyfriend Justin, during a lengthy layover in Boston on my way home to Seattle Seeing the fireworks bursting all over the various neighborhoods of Seattle while dr

One Last Summer Trip

It's been a pretty quiet week here in "The Junc." I've been trying to log as many hours behind the drawing table as I can, before heading out of town (YET AGAIN) tomorrow morning.

It'll be my last trip of the summer, home to Seattle for a few days and then a short jaunt down to Portland for my sister Galen's wedding! She is marrying Nathan, a fellow Powell's employee, who will soon be my new brother-in-law (?!)

My sister Courtney is also freshly home from Eritrea, not just for the summer thi

Feng Shui... finally!

The first night I arrived in Vermont, Rachel and I spent a good two hours just trying to figure out how to arrange all of my furniture/equipment. My apartment has three windows, which are all on one wall, and none of them are in a corner, so there is no real logical place to put the drawing board. Also, to prevent glare on my computer monitor, it has to be against the same wall as the windows... Anyway, it was complicated, but we came up with a pretty good solution, which I have been using si

Heroes Con 2009!!!

Holy crap, I had an awesome time at this year's Heroes Con. If you were to ask me what my favorite part of the convention was, I'd be hard pressed to pick just one! Here would be the top contenders:

1) My Panel with Jeff Smith on Friday, moderated by good ol' Dustin Harbin. I have been lucky enough to interview Jeff before on Indie Spinner Rack, so I didn't have to ask him the same interview questions that he always has to answer about Bone and stuff. We talked more about RASL and his new bo

Headed to Heroes!

Whoa, wasn't I supposed to be blitzing my blog?! Instead, I'll blog the blitz I've been leading against Basewood!

Using a weakness in the logic of my Basewood percentage calculations, (in which the front "intro page" of an issue is given equal penciling and inking status) I have completed four "units" in the last two days, bringing my current progress total up to 61.54%! I'm choosing to cash in this easy boost now, to cover the time I will be away for Heroes Con, which is this weekend in Char

Monotasking

It seems like people are always talking about the importance of "multitasking." I remember when I was in my last semester at Pratt, a bunch of the teachers were warning us that once we were out in the "real world" we'd have to be able to work on multiple projects at the same time, probably while holding down a day job, and taking care of ourselves, etc. etc.

They were right, and I've experienced that hectic feeling of trying to keep a lot of balls in the air at once (though I don't think it's
