Good-Bye Quarters, Hellooo Pinball!
I'm not even kidding, a few weeks ago, this pool hall opened up across the street from CCS. Music Man aficionados know this could spell "Trouble with a capital 'T' And that rhymes with 'P' and that stands for pool." Right here in White River Junction!
Some of you might be asking yourself, "How is a pool hall going to survive in in such a small village?" (population 2,500) Well, I might not know the answer to that question, but I DO know that Jon Chad and I are sure doing our part!

The Cardboard Hatrack!
One night back in March, I built a hatrack out of cardboard. I was too busy to post about it then, but I took pictures while I was constructing it, so I've posted them up in a new Flickr set.
It's no Cardboard Man, or even a Cardboard Chair but it's dead useful and it was a lot of fun to build.
Sometimes I really miss being a carpenter. There is something so satisfying about working with your hands, taking measurements, thinking in three dimensions, trying to build something strong and having

A Splendid Summer
A few nights ago, I started reading through some of my old blog entries and realized something... Often at this time of year, I will write a post about how much I hate summer on the East coast. For example:
2005: Humidity = EVIL
2006: Summer's The Worst
2007: F THIS SUMMER. (This was arguably the worst summer of my life, so far - remember that apartment with no windows?!)
Well, this summer I'm still on the East coast, it's still wicked hot, there is still a ton of humidity in the air, AND YET,

New Comments RSS Feed! NATE BEATY!!!
I emailed Nate late last night asking if there was a simple way for him to set up an RSS Feed for comments on this site. Then I woke up this morning at 6am, and it was done!
For those of you accessing this site through some other means (LiveJournal, Google Reader, etc. etc.) I'll post the links here:
So hopefully that'll make it easier to keep up with responses to your comments, without having to come back here to check the site. Also people will be able to see the vario

Weezer Warning!!!
Last Thursday was a magical day. I got some exercise, I hung out with friends, I ate some good food, I drew a bunch of comics and I even checked a few chores off of my to-do list. Seriously, it was like a perfect summer day.
Then, for whatever reason, I woke up on Friday in a horrible mood. I was being a total grump all day, until finally in the afternoon, I sat down to draw. I was flipping through my music, trying to figure out what I wanted to listen to, and I thought, "WEEZER will cheer

My Europe Photos Are Finally Up!
Well, it took me SIX MONTHS, but I have finally uploaded all of my photos from my trip to Europe earlier this year.
Well, actually, I took about 600 photos on the trip and there are only 200 or so in that Flickr set, so it's about one THIRD of the photos... but it's definitely all the good ones! I'm not sure if they'll be interesting to anyone else besides myself, but I went through and annotated everything, so if you want to check them out, they're there. I guess it's kind of like the behind-

SPX is out, APE is IN!
Well, the last CCS Workshop wrapped up tonight, which means summer is almost through. Over the last few weeks I have been trying to solidify my plans for this Fall, and I guess I have some pretty weird news to announce...
I will not be going to SPX this year. But I WILL be going to APE. (????!)
This is probably bad news for some and good news for others, depending on where you live, which comic conventions you attend and whether or not you want to hang out with me. This was not an easy decis

Dogsitting and Snake Sighting!
I was dogsitting this past weekend for my friends Joe and Becca, which was pretty awesome. I'm pretty much going out of my mind, I want a dog so bad, so it was super fun hanging out with Mosley, tossing the ball for him, going for walks, etc. etc. He is a good dog!
Oh, by the way, Joe is one of the most RIDICULOUSLY TALENTED young cartoonists working today. It is well worth your time to check out some of his jaw-dropping sketchbook pages or to order some of his rad minicomics. He'll also ha

New Neighbors!
I know MOVING is supposed to be one of the most stressful events in a person's life, but if you are a cartoonist in White River Junction, it's not so bad!
When I arrived in White River Junction a year ago, I sent one text message to one person, and within 5 minutes there were a dozen fellow cartoonists helping me lug stuff up the stairs. The whole process took no more than 30 minutes. It was far and away the most painless move I have ever experienced.
There are only so many housing options i

The Basewood Beard: YEAR ONE
Yesterday was August 1st, which means that I have officially been growing my beard (and hair) for ONE ENTIRE YEAR.
As of this blog entry, Chapter 3 of Basewood is 75.96% done. I have penciled the entire issue and I have 23 pages inked, as well as all of the covers and endpapers. I finally finished inking the insane snow pages and so it's going a lot faster now. I'm still hoping to have this chapter finished up by the end of September, which I'm on track to accomplish, if I can maintain my cur
