Chicago Love

I just had a pretty epic long weekend in Chicago.

I actually stopped off in Boston on my way out of town, so I could hang out with Liz, Maris and Joe for a night, before heading over to the midwest. I got to see so many of my friends on this trip, which was really wonderful.

The wedding was super chill and relaxing. If you read my contribution to Papercutter #6 (or my French book!) you know that I worked very hard one summer with Dan (the groom). I also lived with his family, so it was r...

Jedi Knight!

Two thursdays ago, on the same day that I finished inking Chapter 3 of Basewood, I had my best game yet of Star Wars: Episode I pinball. I made it through EIGHT mini-games, spelling J-E-D-I TWICE and defeated Darth Maul both times (the second time in a new location; in the Naboo hangar bay) thus achieving Jedi Knight status. I also had a crazy awesome multi-ball round, which brought my score up to 99,200,000, points a mere 800k short of knocking out the robot 100,000,000 Grand Champion...

GAHHHH... Chicago Bound!

Holy crud, how did I get so BUSY??? I'm leaving tomorrow, to go see my old pal Dan get married in Chicago, and I feel like I'm only going to accomplish about 1% of the things I wanted to get done before I left.

I guess with the teaching, and the finishing of Phase 7 #007 (which I have been printing like MAD!) and the planning of cool things which are happening when I get back, I have been pretty swamped this week.

I'm gonna bring my laptop though (it's looking like another busman's holiday, ...

Monsters by Ken Dahl

Last Thursday, I ran into Gabby, standing in front of CCS, holding a bubble wrapped envelope, which contained his author's copy of Monsters, his first graphic novel.

It was a very strange, moving moment, watching him open this package and finally hold a book which took him three (or more?) years to produce.

I then told him that he HAD to loan it to me! I'm not going to SPX, where the book will debut, and Gabby (and MK and Liz) are going on a huge book tour after SPX, so Gabby won't actually ...

Basewood Chapter 3 = DONE!

Well, last night I finished inking Basewood Chapter 3. If you click this "home-stretch" image here, it'll take you to a really large image of my full progress chart, which is pretty humbling, to say the least.

I started working on Chapter 3 on June 25th, 2007, which means it took me 816 days to complete, which is about 2 years and three months. If I'm generous, and I include the covers and endpapers into my page count, that's a finished page every 16 days, which is pretty depressing...

If y...

Addicted to Productivity

Agggh, I feel like my blog has been so lame lately. My only excuse is that I'm a paltry FOUR PAGES away from finishing Basewood Chapter 3, which will be released SOON in the pages of Phase 7 #007.

As I get closer and closer to being done, I seem to have more and more trouble focusing on EVERYTHING ELSE that is going on in my life right now. I just want to stay chained to my drawing table and get this issue DONE. Luckily, I'm teaching my first class of the semester tomorrow, so I will be ...

Comics! Friends! School!

Holy smokes, a whole week without a post? Time seems to be flying faster and faster as the new school year gets closer and closer. I've been drawing like a maniac, trying to get Phase 7 #007 done before I get all swept up into my teaching duties this fall.

Luckily, my friends Maris and Joe rolled into town last weekend, which gave me an excuse to get out of the apartment for almost a whole day. Joe has been working SUPER hard on that crazy oversized DC Comics thing that's been going on...

(If You Are Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To

Well, the new weezer song was officially released today! As luck would have it, I've actually had a copy of the song for more than a WEEK, thanks to a quick tip off by blog commenter Tim and the ineptitude of Walmart.com. My iTunes play count says I've listened to it more than 50 times so far, so I THINK I'm ready to weigh in on my predictions for Weezer's upcoming 7th album, "RADITUDE" which is due out on October 27th...

This album is going to ROCK!!!

Sure, it is an upbeat pop song. And yeah

Jedi Youth!

Today while playing Star Wars: Episode I Pinball, I spelled out J-E-D-I and I BEAT DARTH MAUL, thus achieving the rank of Jedi Youth! I also set the new (human achieved) high score on the machine, with just over 63,500,000 points. (The game came with some pre-loaded high scores at 100,000,000 and 90,000,000 etc.)

More importantly, I feel like I had a real breakthrough with the game today. In the last few days Jon and I have figured out a bit more about how the game operates, including some bo

Whoops

Aw crud, so much for my blogging blitz! It didn't even last a WEEK. I've got other stuff lined up to post, but I guess it'll have to wait. My first priority these days is to try and get Phase 7 #007 done. I'm getting close... Only 14 pages left to ink!
