The Unsinkable Walker Bean!!!
BY FAR, the most exciting thing that happened during my month-long blogging hiatus, was the arrival of an advanced copy of Aaron's next book, The Unsinkable Walker Bean!
I guess FirstSecond got a stack of advanced copies back from the printer, so they overnighted copies to Aaron and myself. I'm pretty sure the book won't be out until October, but the amazon page says August 31st? Well, anyway, some time this FALL, this book will hit the streets and let me tell you, it's WELL worth the...

www.isleofelsi.com
One of the links that I'm really excited about on the new miscellaneous page, is for a site that I built a few months ago: www.isleofelsi.com
"The Isle of Elsi" will be my next big comics project after Basewood. Remember that 8-page story I did for Dark Horse Presents last May? Well, those are the main characters from this world. I'm scripting out a much longer story with them, but I will also be using them for other short anthology pieces and illustration work. So for now,

a-l.com v5.0!
HOLY SMOKES, has it really been a WHOLE MONTH since I last posted a real blog entry??? Well Dear Readers, rest assured that I have been putting this time to good use! During the hiatus I transferred alec-longstreth.com to a new, more reliable (and cheaper) server AND redesigned a few sections of the site!
"But Alec!" you say, "That sounds SUPER complicated! How did YOU know how to transfer the database for this site and set it up again on a new server?" And the truth is I DON'T. As luck ...

Switching Servers
Hi everyone, this week I'm going to be changing the hosting service for this website, and I expect the site might go down for a bit, while I am getting everything switched over. I'll try to have everything back up by the end of the week!
Also, my email address for this site MIGHT be dead for a few days, so if you need to get in touch with me, use p7comics (at) gmail
I've got a BUNCH of blog entries stockpiled, so I will have a big blogging blitz once everything is back in place. In the...

Twice Published!
There was a giant pile of mail waiting for me, when I returned from winter break. I had a lot of really cool holiday cards from my many artistic friends, a few nice letters, (a bunch of junk mail) and TWO PADDED ENVELOPES. Each contained contributor copies of some new books that I am in!
The first was It All Changed In An Instant which is the third six-word memoir book put out by Smith Magazine. As I mentioned last year, when the second book came out, Rachel does a TON of work on these...

The Golden Age Project
Yikes, this has not been the best year of blogging for me, so far... I actually have a lot of stuff to post, I've just been so busy lately I haven't had the chance!
The main thing that has been keeping me occupied over the past few weeks was the CCS Golden Age Project. Each year, the first year students are given two weeks to create a 32 page comic book, written, drawn and colored in the style of the "Golden Age" of comics (this year we tried to stay as close to 1952 as possible). There...

The Best Pinball Movie EVER MADE.
There is more pinball in the OPENING CREDITS of TILT than in the entire 111 minute running time of Tommy.
TILT is the the story of a 14 year-old girl (played by a 13 year-old Brook Shields) who is REALLY, REALLY good at Pinball. Without giving too much of the plot away, she hits the road with an aspiring rock and roll musician and they hustle people of their hard earned dollars... PLAYING PINBALL. Eventually (of course) she has to face the world's BEST pinball player... "THE WHALE."
Not...

Oakland "Winter Term"
Every year at Oberlin, they gave us the entire month of January to work on whatever project we were interested in, whether it was related to our studies or not. Or at least they did when I went there, and I hope they still do, because it was one of my favorite things about that school. This free month was called "Winter Term" and I used it to draw comics, build furniture, make music and do all sorts of other things that I loved to do, things that made me a better person, but that I just...

2010!!!
INTERNET! I am still alive, and the year is 2010!!!
I apologize for my dearth of blog posts. I have been in Oakland for the past few weeks, and I felt more like spending my time there with Claire than typing out blog posts on the computer. But fear not! I took lots of photos and will be posting a recap of our many adventures soon.
I returned to White River Junction today, feeling very refreshed and well rested and ready for a new semester and a new year! 2010 has loomed large in my...

PDX Pinball!!!
Though I'm writing this in 2010, I am sending this blog entry back in time, to 2009, since it covers events that happened in the last days of that year...
Portland is well known as a bike-friendly city, which is inhabited by many a cartoonist. Well, it's not only a great place for biking and making comics, it's also chock-full of pinball machines! I was only in Portland for about 30 hours and during that time, I played pinball in three different venues, and I can't help but thinking I only ...
