Bloody Scotland Debut Novel Shortlist Announced

Panzer made a quick trip to the Bloody Scotland site. Bloody Scotland is Scotland's International Crime Writing Festival.
 According to the post on the Bloody Scotland blog, the shortlist of five books for the Bloody Scotland Debut Novel has been announced.The blog post lists the author, the book and a description of the plot.
 Panzer says, "Below the shortlist is a description of the launch event and how to get tickets."

37 Writing Contests in August 2024 - No entry fees - Publishing ... and Other Forms of Insanity

Take your pick. A contest for everyone.
Today, Panzer went to the Publishing ... and Other Forms of Insanity site. It's almost the beginning of August, so the monthly post about writing contests is there for August.
 Erica Verrillo's post lists 37 writing contests with submission deadlines in August. Several of the contests have August 1 or August 2 as the submission deadlines, so there's not much time to enter. The contests accept submissions in the fiction or nonfiction or poetry categories. None of them have an entry fee.
 Panzer says, "Be sure to read the submission rules because some of the contests have restrictions."
 Note: Since there are 37 contests listed this is a very long post. You'll need to decide what to bring to snack on while you read the contest rules.

Hugo awards organizers reveal thousands spent on fraudulent votes to help one writer win - The Guardian*

Panzer says, It is good the Hugo awards caught them. It's good the Hugo awards caught them.
Today, Panzer made a quick trip to The Guardian site. There he found a post about the Hugo awards.
 According to the post by Sian Cain, the Hugo awards has announced an investigation found hundreds of votes were paid for with thousands of dollars to try and determine the winner at the Hugo awards. There's no names in the post.

Panzer says, "This is very, very bad."
