I'm Not Sure What's Sadder

The fact that this was once sold to kids and adolescents everywhere....

...or the fact that I would have worn something like this in high school.

Seriously.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Comics I've Read: Dynamite's MASKS 2

You know, it seems like only yesterday I was declaring Dynamite's first Masks series"a near-perfect pulp comic." Of course, as it progressed Masks became rather disappointing, moving from strength to weakness. So I was prepared to see Cullen Bunn's work on Masks 2 in a similar light - a great start followed by a decline into weakness. But Bunn's work on Masks 2 pleasantly surprised me....

....as I have never been as immediately dissatisfied with a comic as Dynamite's Masks 2.

I am grateful tha...

Mondays with Columbo: THE CONSPIRATORS

"This far....and no farther"

The Conspirators was the final episode of Columbo's seventh - and final - season on NBC. It's also a real gem of an episode in as much as Columbo faces off against someone very much like himself.

In other words, it's Sexy Dad against Sexy Dad, as one of the co-hosts of a popular Columbo-themed podcast would say.

Clive Revill plays Joe Devlin, an Irish poet/writer/singer whose work funds....well, the subtext is the "troubles in Ireland".  He meets with an a...

Comics I'm Reading: SQUADRON SUPREME # 1

Quite honestly, it's been awhile since I've allowed myself the pleasure of reading comics on the regular basis. (Mostly, budgetary - if I have to choose between comics and Ramen noodles, well...)

But I've been drawing increasingly more towards Marvel's output than DC's. Part of it is that Marvel seems to be doing a better job of DC-style comics than their competitor; much of it though is that there's a stronger sense of diversity....not just in their characters, but in their storytelling appro...

Kicking Off 2016 With Online Shenanigans

Despite being busy the past few months (with both family illness and my aunt's sudden death), I have managed to maintain some creative momentum. Once again, in an effort to both maintain my blog and keep my efforts search optimized, here's the monthly summary of my various comings, goings, and writings online.

First, you've all been reading about various stories that have come out, including Airship 27's benefit anthology Legends of New Pulp Fiction . I'm happy to say that you can find a n...

David Bowie - A Tribute

Upon reading news of David Bowie's passing, I'll have to admit that I was a bit in disbelief.

First, he has a new album & video out....but of course, he had been ill for awhile.

My introduction with Bowie didn't come during one of his better-known albums (like Ziggy Stardust or Heroes) - it actually came with Let's Dance, aka "Bowie's commercial period). Granted, it may sound rather lame (nobody's going to claim that "China Girl" or "Jazzing for Blue Jean" are cutting edge), but it did...

Think Anaxar's Got It Rough? A Review of CHAOS ON THE BRIDGE

With all the brouhaha around Paramount suing producers of the Star Trek fan film Axanar (and you betcha I'm going to be writing about that), it's easy to forget that Star Trek - like any other television show - has an ardent group of people that can be difficult to please. It's also, like many other shows, been "rebooted" in the past, and Star Trek is not without its controversies.

Available on DVD and Google Play, William Shatner Presents: Chaos On The Bridge  is a documentary t...
