Doctor Who: SLEEP NO MORE (Review)

Normally, I don't like posting spoilers - I try not to, mostly because I enjoy the challenge of writing about something with some constraints. However, much like Gene Siskel in his review of Friday the 13th, I'm going to spoil last night's episode of Doctor Who. Heavily.
Because it sucked. Possibly the worst episode of the entire season so far.
Much of the problem is that Mark Gatiss stuffs this episode with too many ideas that never seem to go anywhere.
If the only driving idea were "found foot...

Your Monthly Blogaround Moment of Zen

With all of my fiction writing efforts coming to light - and with freelance work providing me with income - I must admit that my online writing (except for this blog) has somewhat fallen to the wayside. I definitely have some posts that I'll need to craft for I Hear of Sherlock in December, when things have died down from Chicago TARDIS.
But until then....just a few highlights.....
Like the fact that I will be a panelist on Saturday morning of Chicago TARDIS, talking classic Doctor Who. If...

What I've Been Watching: DAREDEVIL on Netflix

I know, I'm very late to the party - with Jessica Jones and Series Two set to debut on Netflix in 2016, reviewing Daredevil now may seem a bit...well, awkward.
But quite honestly, this is some of the best television I have seen in awhile. And the fact that it's available via streaming makes it doubly effective.
If you're looking for the relatively high-stakes drama of Avengers, well...you won't find it. It's very much a smaller scale story, much like Ant Man, but with a decidedly...

I've Been Published: THE ADVENTURES OF MOOSE & SKWIRL

Please check out the latest Pro Se volume called The Adventures of Moose & Skwirl. Think of it as Sapphire & Steel meets Fight Club - a steampunk sorceress and alien fighter find themselves jaunting to a variety of times and places fighting evil, getting into trouble, and cracking wi...

Mondays with Columbo: HOW TO DIAL A MURDER

For me, it's counseling psychology - as both an undergrad and graduate student, I always loved mocking behaviorists. With their emphasis on pure stimulus/response - and refusal to consider internal motivation - they seemed easy pickings.
Which is probably why this latter-era Columbo hits several sweet spots.
Now first, you may not think it's one of the more memorable episodes (in an interview for The Columbo Ph...

Doctor Who: THE ZYGON INVERSION (Review)

Remember last week, when I compared The Zygon Invasion to the Letts/Dicks era of Doctor Who?
This week's follow up - The Zygon Inversion - completely nails it.
I'm not going to spoil the episode. (And for those who proclaim that they're OK with spoilers - I'm writing this blog. You're not. So I'm not going to put in spoilers) But there are so many great follow ups to plot threads from last week, spoiling them would ruin the overall effect of the episode.
And then, of course, there's Capaldi's sp...

What I'm Writing When I'm Not Blogging

Well, truth be told much of my current time is spent working on freelance work. (And don't worry - another monthly blogaround's coming soon). One of the advantages of being a pulp writer is that I get to write some cool stories that are entertaining. That I want to write, instead of feeling the desperate need to...
