30 Day, 1989 Challenge Update #3: Back to Twitter – with restrictions

I’m using my modern computers as if I were using them in 1989.  (It’s a weird idea.  See this episode, and the first update, also the second, for more details.)  I am now 2 weeks in.  And, in order to better understand which change is making the positive impact on my life, I’m adding Social Media back into the mix.  With some heavy restrictions.

State of the Lunduke Show – March, 2018

It’s the State of the Show! This was one of the biggest few months so far for the Lunduke Show. And April looks even bigger. Jazzed. To the extreme.

Linux Thursday – Mar 29, 2018 – “Lonely Lunduke Edition”

It’s Thursday!  And that can mean only one thing… Linux Day on the Lunduke Show!  Where you decide what we talk about… as long as it’s at least a little Linux-y!  This week we took a boat-load of questions — sent in via email — about Linux and Free Software.

The time of the Internet giants is coming to an end

The time of the Internet giants… is coming to an end.  Google.  Facebook.  Twitter.  The whole lot of ’em.  Their time has passed.  Some will disappear.  Some will be broken up.  Others will dwindle into obscurity.  Either way, it’s happening.

EU listens to Lunduke: considers breaking up Google

The EU is considering doing something I’ve talked about for quite a long time: Breaking up Google.  Does this mean the European Union listens to what I say?  … Probably not.  But I’d like to believe it does!

30 Day, 1989 Challenge Update #2: Hand-held DOS is rad

I’m using my modern computers as if I were using them in 1989.  (It’s a weird idea.  See this episode, and the first update, for more details.)  I am now 1 week in.  And, turns out, I’m *way* less stressed.  And more productive.  And obsessing over DOS hand-held devices.

Facebook and Cambridge Analytica: Just the tip of the iceberg

Concerned about the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica data issues?  Worried about how these companies are handling your private information?  Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  This issue, as concerning as it is, is peanuts compared to other ways your personal information is being compromised on a daily basis.

30 Day Challenge: Use computers like it’s 1989 – Update #1

I’m using my modern computers as if I were using them in 1989.  (It’s a weird idea.  See this episode for more details.)  This is how the experience has been roughly 36 hours in.  Overall… it’s kinda awesome.  No Social Media.  No push notifications.  I could really get used to this.

30 Day Challenge: Use modern computers like it’s 1989

The way we interacted with our computers in 1989 was, in so many respects, fundamentally different than how we compute today.  Always connected to the Internet.  Push notifications.  Social Media.  These things simply weren’t around (not really and not for most of us) back in the late 80’s and early 90’s.  What would it be like to utilize my modern computing equipment with a set of restrictions designed to recreate that 1980’s experience?  Is thinking that it would be better simply viewing the past through rose-colored glasses?  Or would my productivity, an happiness, change as a result?  I’m going to find out.  For the next 30 days.
