Book Description:
All former Navy SEAL Mason Lawson craves is solitude. Unfortunately, his new neighbor won’t allow him the peace he so desperately needs. Between the traffic and the music, Mason is constantly on edge—not exactly what the doctor ordered for someone recovering from a bullet to the leg. However, when he finally has enough and confronts his neighbor, nothing can prepare him for how hot he’d get for the teacher next door.
Piano teacher, Skylar Jernigan, loves everything about the town of Jessamine—from the quaint Main Street shops to the people who own them. Unfortunately, once she’s chewed up and spit out by her sexy neighbor, Skylar begins to question her decision to move to a new town. Until, that is, she learns he’s suffering from a war wound and refuses to have anything to do with his family.
Now, Skylar is determined to help Mason recover—mentally, physically and socially—until he turns the tables and sets out to seduce Skylar right out of her meddling ways. Only seduction turns into something more and soon, Mason can’t stop looking for excuses to be with her. But when the Navy wants Mason to reenlist for a dangerous mission, will Skylar be too irresistible for him to leave?Excerpt:
“I bought too many, so I thought I’d share the extras with you,” Skylar said. Her explanation sounded perfectly reasonable to her, even if her reason for being on Mason’s front porch was entirely unbelievable.
She had caved, faster than a sandcastle taking on high tide.
Mason stared at her as if he couldn’t quite comprehend what she was saying. “That’s a hell of a lot of crab for only being extra.”
“My eyes were bigger than my stomach.” She held out the large bag of crabs to him. “And I can’t resist a sale.”
He leaned against the doorframe, his light hair pulled back off his handsome face. She studied him for a minute, taking in his blue t-shirt and loose jeans. He was too skinny for the jeans, but the t-shirt stretched out rather nicely over his shoulders and the indentions on each side of his hips were not hard on the eyes at all.
“Anything else you can’t resist?” he asked and she jerked up her gaze, blushing hotly at being caught ogling him.
“Beer?” She held up the six-pack. “Fat Tire was on sale, too.”
He narrowed his sexy, blue eyes at her. “You’ve already eaten?”
She shook her head. “Not yet. I need to search for a recipe for the crabs I kept for myself. I’ve never cooked them before.” The crabs moved in the bag, and she almost dropped them. The cold had kept them immobile, but the longer she stood in the heat…the more awake they became.
Stepping to one side, he motioned for her to come inside. “Might as well eat with me. I already have a recipe,” he said as he closed the door behind her and started for the back of the house. Instead of using his cane, he limped as he walked and Bomber stayed at his side.
“I can just write it down,” she said, following him.
He tapped the side of his head. “Secret family recipe.”
She laughed. “But I’ll see what you use.”
“You won’t know the exact amounts and that’s important.”
Mason’s kitchen was huge, with stainless-steel appliances and more cabinets than anyone could ever need. In the center stood a large island with a prep sink and a butcher-block top.
“Really nice kitchen,” she said, admiring the wavy glass in the doors of the nearest cabinet.
“I like to cook.”
“You do?”
“I like to eat,” he said, as if that explained everything.
“Who doesn’t?” she replied.
“Lately, I haven’t.” He turned around and leaned against the counter. She set the bag of crabs in the sink and the beer on the island.
“Do your meds make your appetite go away?” They had for her dad, in those awful, final months. He’d practically wasted away to nothing. Maybe that was why she wanted to help Mason so badly. She didn’t want another person to just waste away, especially if she could help. Mason didn’t have cancer either.
He nodded stiffly. “You’re the first person to ask me that…besides my doctor.”
“The alcohol doesn’t help.” She wasn’t stupid. She’d seen the half-empty bottles and had smelled it on his breath. “It’s a good thing you exercise or you wouldn’t look like you do.”
She half expected him to take offense, but he only lifted a brow and said, “How do I look exactly?”
“Like a man who used to take care of his body.”
His lips thinned. “How is the air working in your house?”
“Like a freezer.”
“Good thing?”
“Very good thing. I actually wore pajamas to bed last night,” she said. “But I’m going to have to bring you a lot of noise-cancelling headphones in order to pay you back. They had to replace the entire thing.”
“What did you used to wear?” he asked with a grin that almost made her forget her own name.
He would focus on that. “Nothing. I mean…” She narrowed her eyes at him. “Don’t try to change the subject. I will pay you back.”
“Crab and beer are a good start.” He pushed away from the front of the island and opened a deep drawer, pulling out a large pot and handing it to her. “Fill this halfway up with water and put it on the stove to boil. Gas burners okay for you?”
“Yes. I have one, too.” She took the pot and filled it, then set it on the stove and turned on the gas while he poured in a dash of vinegar and sprinkled in some spices. “What’s next?”
“We fix the sides—I’m thinking fries and hushpuppies.”
She glanced at the crabs and shivered. They were moving more vigorously now. “What about them?” She whispered the last word.
“We’ll get to them in a minute.” He nodded to the right. “There’s a bag of potatoes in the pantry. Get those out and we’ll make fries.”
Thankful for something else to do besides worry about the stupid crabs, she hopped right to it. “I guess this is as good of time as any to confess that I’ve never cooked live seafood before.”
“Figured as much.”
She glanced up into his blue eyes. “I can do whatever I need to in order to cook them.”
“I’ll take care of the crab.”
How could something so simple, and about cooking of all things, make her want to swoon?
He touched her face, starting at her cheek and ending up at her lips. His thumb brushed her mouth. The smell of liquor wafted over her. “You’ve been drinking.” So that explained his easygoing mood. It wasn’t her presence. “Did you take your meds with it?”
“Always do before bed.”
She frowned. “That’s not safe, Mason.”
“You’re worried about me?”
Instead of answering, she nodded.
“Why?”
“Because we’re neigh—”
“Don’t.” His thumb made another pass, and she shivered again. This time in pleasure and not fear. His touch was making her weak in the knees. “The real reason, Skylar.”
“Because when I saw you on the ground, I thought that if anyone needed love, it was you.
“Not that I’m in love with you. I meant a neighborly type of love. Love for fellow man type of love,” she added. “What would Jesus do love.”

Release Date: April 7, 2015
Mass Market Paperback: 304 pages
ISBN-13: 978-0425274705
E-Book ASIN: B00LMGK5EM
It’s springtime in Savannah, Georgia, in the newest Consignment Shop Mystery from the national bestselling author of Pearls and Poison. The azaleas and magnolias are in bloom—and Walker Boone is on the run. . .
When Reagan Summerside turned the first floor of her old Victorian home into a consignment shop, she never imagined she’d be harboring a fugitive in her attic. But after a dead man is found in a bathtub and local lawyer Walker Boone is accused of doing the dirty deed, she suddenly has a new houseguest.
Having the lawyer who took her to the cleaners in her divorce settlement—and who has been getting under her skin ever since—in close proximity is enough to drive Reagan to distraction. For the sake of her sanity—and Walker’s freedom—they need to put their heads together to find out who is trying to get the lawyer out of the picture . . .
My thoughts:
I have not read any of this series until now with Demise in Denim. This book takes up right after Dead Man Walker. I did not read it before this one and didn’t feel too left out but it might be good to read Dead Man Walker first. One thing I loved, the book is set in Savannah Georgia. Living in the south it is always nice to read books from the south.
My goodness the laughs in this book and the action is remarkable you stay on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens. Once I thought I knew who the suspect was I changed my mind. There are more twists and turns than a roller coaster. You can’t miss the dog either and you will never believe his name…Bruce Willis. A wonderful story I will read again and grab the other books in this series.

Dead Girl Blues by Joyce and Jim Lavene review and guest post.
Dead Girl Blues
by Joyce and Jim Lavene
Dead Girl Blues
By Joyce and Jim Lavene
• Genre – Cozy Mystery (PARANORMAL)
When Nashville cop Skye Mertz and her husband, Jacob, are killed in a wreck, Skye is given the opportunity to come back for twenty years to raise her five-year-old daughter, Kate. With her ghostly mother-in-law’s help, Skye hopes to be there until Kate is old enough to take care of herself.
But three years into her twenty-year service to Abraham Lincoln Jones, the man who gave her the extra time, Skye is beginning to think life might have been easier before she died.
Abe asks her to investigate the murder of his sorcerer, Harold the Great, a man who was a victim of too many snakes. And the Life Extended People (LEPs – a nice term for zombies) who work for Abe have begun turning into ghosts and disappearing. Only Lucas, the possibly evil, amnesiac sorcerer who lives with Skye and her family, can save her from being the next victim of the deadly curse.
To make matters more complicated, Skye has found a lead in solving the riddle of her husband’s death. She has never believed Jacob died as a result of the crash, but hasn’t been able to prove it. Many other people have lost their lives in the same lonely stretch of highway that he did three years before. Skye goes against Abe’s express wishes to discover the truth with a crazy man bent on vengeance.

Guest Post
Dead Girl Blues
By Joyce and Jim Lavene
Why write mystery with paranormal?
We don’t know – why not? We think the two go hand-in-hand. We like romance and mystery too. Maybe we’re like those fruity flavors – all mixed up!
We’ve always been interested in the supernatural/paranormal. Why does science refuse to see ghosts as a real thing?
There have been ghost stories for as long as there have been people. They say it was easy to understand a thousand years ago when people were trying to explain why storms happened and why there were earthquakes.
But what about today?
We’ve gone out with ghost hunters, and they are amazing. They’re braver than we are and well prepared for the things that happen. And don’t kid yourself – things happen that can’t be explained with science.
Jim and I have both seen ghostly members of our families when we were children, and as adults. We know witches and paranormal investigators who are always trying to find ways to explain how and why these things happen.
We recently read that more than half the people in the world have experienced some type of paranormal/supernatural phenomenon. Yet most are afraid to talk about what they’ve seen or heard. They’re afraid people will look down on them.
And yet, the supernatural continues – even though we know what causes earthquakes and that thunder is more than angels bowling.
We want to ask the questions about what happens to ordinary people who get involved in supernatural events. That’s how we started writing the Taxi for the Dead Mysteries. Our heroine is a cop who dies and is brought back for another twenty years to stay with her daughter while she’s growing up.
It’s not easy accepting what she knows about herself – or that her mother-in-law is a ghost. Skye isn’t the kind of person who can let go of who she was or not ask the tough questions about how this is possible. The world expands after her death to include things like werewolves and sorcerers that she wouldn’t have believed when she was still alive.
Is it possible there is something more out there than just what we can see and touch?
What about black holes? What about gravity? What about solar flares?
Two hundred years ago, people would have called that witchcraft.
Today, we call it science.

My thoughts:
This is the first book I have read by Joyce and Jim Lavene. This is a paranormal cozy and these are not what a normally read but the blurb peaked my interest. I was pleasantly surprised how well the books was.
Skye is an LEP -Life Extended Person. Skye and her husband were killed in an accident and she use to be a police office. She got a 20 year extension to raise her daughter. When there 20 years are up they have to move but of course some do not want to move on. Skye comes in and takes them to their destination. She is also trying to solve what happened when her husband and her were killed.
There are so many Ghosts, Zombies, Werewolves and more. There is something for everyone in this book. I liked this author team and will be watching for more books.

My thoughts:
Chef Maurice and a Spot of Truffle by J.A. Lang is a humorous cozy featuring Chef Maurice and his friend and restaurant critic, Arthur Wordington-Smythe. This is the first book in this series and I LOVE IT! The chef’s mushroom dealer is dead and he can’t believe it. He wants those mushroom he was supposed to get but he has a hard time making Lucy see reason. Chef decides that he and Arthur must investigate the death of Ollie. The best part is when they gain a pig.
I loved the way the author wrote the story. Everything comes together and the Chef ‘s mind at work is remarkable. This is a keeper and I will be looking for the next book.

Question:
Is there are Genre the author has not written in but would like to try and why and if not why
Paranormal.
I think it takes a truly creative mind to write Paranormal. When you pick up that book you are taken on a journey. The colors of the walls are described; everything around you is in detail. You feel like you are in the story along with the characters. You have to create a world describe every possible scene. I think about JK Rowling, and how she created Harry Potter, she didn’t tell a story she created a Hogwarts.
Excerpt:
I opened the bathroom door. Peyton was approaching, fire burning in his eyes. I stopped short, but he wasn’t slowing down. He reached for my hand, taking me with him as he continued to walk. I didn’t protest or object; my body willingly obeyed his request. He continued to move, taking long strides down the hallway as I jogged behind him in my four-inch heels.
“Where are you taking me?” I questioned.
He stopped walking and punched in a few numbers on a keypad lock, then opened a door to a small conference room. The lights immediately turned on as we entered. As the door closed behind us, Peyton pulled me to him.
He brought my body against his, and his hard erection pressed against my abdomen. “I don’t like being teased.” He brought his hand to my chin, pulling my face up to meet his eyes. “I don’t like sharing. I don’t like half-ass answers. But God knows I need to be buried deep inside of you.” My lace thong moistened with arousal as he continued. “Making you squirm … making your body convulse.” He lowered his lips to my neck, kissing it softly. “I want you, Braelynn. Let me have you. Let me take you.”
My conversations with Kennedy and Gus flashed through my head, but I couldn’t deny my hunger. My career didn’t matter. The case didn’t matter. All I cared about was how he would make me feel. I nodded. “Take me, Haas.” My body was aching for his touch. “Please.” I heard him growl, firmly biting on my neck, and the pain only intensified my desire for him.
He guided me to the table and grasped my chin, moving my face to the side and exposing my neck. His breath caused goose bumps to rise, and my breath caught in my lungs. Peyton’s hand was on my backside, cupping my butt firmly, and his lips softly grazed my neck before his tongue left a wet trail. Unable to control my breathing, I gasped for oxygen, which had apparently left the room the moment we’d entered. Moving his hands up my spine, he bit down on my collarbone, causing me to whimper under his touch.
Peyton’s hand played with my zipper before he slowly lowered it, and my skin ignited as the draft hit my exposed back. I met his gaze and his lips found mine, caressing my tongue with his as my dress fell to the floor. The thought of my expensive dress getting ruined was no longer a concern.
He pulled away to look at me. “Fuck … You’re fucking gorgeous.” I thanked Victoria’s Secret for the black lace strapless push-up bra and matching lace thong.
“Are you just going to stare?” I questioned, smiling at him.

Excerpt:
Jordan gulped in the cool night air. Her limbs went weak and shaky. She didn’t trust herself to speak, and when she did, her voice shivered. “He threatened me. Us. Did he mean it?” She looked into Eddie’s eyes and saw the truth. “He’ll come after us if we don’t back off, won’t he?”
Eddie put his arms around her and pulled her against him. He was solid and comforting, and ever so warm.
A shiver of fear ran through her. Eddie cupped her hand in his and took her car keys. He tossed his own keys to Tank then led her back to her car and guided her into the passenger seat before he got in behind the wheel.
She turned to him, scared to death and not ashamed to admit it. “My God. What have I gotten us into?”

About the authors:
Sally J. Smith and Jean Steffens are the authors of The Jordan Welsh & Eddie Marino Novels from Camel Press. The two Arizona writers began working together when they figured out two heads are better (and faster) than one.
“We work together side-by-side, word-by-word, literally finishing each others’ sentences. Laughter and sarcasm abound during writing sessions, with occasional disagreements, sometimes involving right crosses or karate/ninja moves. Partners in crime have never had it so good.”
Their hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona, home of the rich and famous as well as the calculating and criminal, is the perfect setting for this series. The detective team in their novels, Jordan Welsh, maverick heiress, and Eddie Marino, a graduate from the school of hard knocks, are ideally suited to the Scottsdale lifestyle and to each other.
Look for Stealing the Golden Dream, Book 2 in the Jordan Welsh & Eddie Marino series coming May 15, 2015. Also in 2015, Mystic Mayhem, A Mystic Isle Mystery from Gemma Halliday Publishing. And Kangaroo Dreaming, A Digby Sloan Novel.
