New Release – Back to You by Raquel Lyon

Nessie thought she’d found the perfect man to heal her broken heart, but being the girlfriend of a band manager isn’t what she thought it would be. When the rock stars and parties disappear, reality hits. She wants out, but it’s not that easy. Her mother is getting married, and Nessie has promised to get through the week without causing trouble.
As the wedding approaches, the surprising reappearance of the boy she’s never forgotten threatens to upset her well-laid plans, especially now he’s all grown up and he’s asking her to trust him with her heart for a second time.
Matt knows he’s been stupid. Four years ago, he made a very bad decision and lost someone amazing. Since then, his life has changed beyond all recognition, but there’s one thing he needs to complete it, and this time, he’s not letting her go.
With just one week to convince Nessie he’s a changed man, it’s going to take all he’s got to get her to forgive him and win her back.

Matt scanned the almost empty beach. Where was she? Had she changed her mind and decided it was too early to catch the rays? He should have followed her, after all. He was sick of playing hide-and-seek.
Turning back towards the cliff, he noticed a pair of feet sticking out from behind a rock.
Gotcha.
Debating what to say, he stood over her, blocking out the sun, and waited to see how long it would take for her to realise he wasn’t a cloud. He hoped it would be a while. She was practically naked, and he was enjoying the view. Unfortunately, it was only a few seconds.
Nessie shielded her eyes and squinted up at him. “You again?”
Hmm, she was still angry. Matt chuckled. He’d missed her fiery temper, but he’d also missed her dimples and he was dying to see them again. “Can’t we get past the animosity and talk like two civilised people?”
“I’m not very good company, at the moment,” she said, sitting up and putting on a pair of sunglasses with flowers on the frame before hugging her knees to her chin.
Despite the towel being too small for two, Matt sat on the end and crossed his legs. “Why?”
“It’s complicated.”
Something was troubling her. Was it just his presence or something else? Matt was curious to know. “I’m a good listener.”
She turned to look out over the waves. “Maybe, but you make me uncomfortable.”
She wasn’t the only one feeling uncomfortable, Matt thought, drinking in her creamy skin with only the tiniest pieces of orange fabric covering the best bits. His shorts were tightening just looking at her arms squeezing her boobs together, creating curved mounds he itched to run his mouth over. She had more flesh on show than he’d ever seen while they were together. Even that one awkward time they’d had sex they’d been fully clothed, apart from strategically moved underwear, and he longed to see her naked, with her small but perfect breasts displayed just for him. Yes. He was definitely uncomfortable.
“Why?” he asked.
“Because it seems as though every time I turn around, recently, you’re there, and it’s weird. I haven’t seen you for four years, and now you’re everywhere, and I don’t know who you are anymore.” She turned to face him, and her eyes ran down his body. “I mean, look at you. You’re Matt but you’re not Matt. We were close, and now we’re strangers. I don’t spill my problems to strangers.”
“Problems?”
Nessie stared down at her toes, brushing sand from one foot with the other, the frown on her face revealing she thought she’d said too much.
Matt wanted Nessie to feel comfortable around him, and it saddened him to discover she wasn’t. Noticing the big, floppy hat lying on the towel, he had an idea. He picked it up to place it on his head, and then reached to take the sunglasses from her nose to put them on. If making a fool of himself was what it took to get her to relax, so be it. “Just pretend I’m one of your girlfriends,” he said, pouting.
Finally, her dimples appeared and she bit on her finger to suppress her laughter. “You’re crazy.”
“Who is, the old me or the new me?”
“I don’t know. Both?”
“I thought if we spent some time together, you could get to know the real me.”
She thought for a moment, and then looked up through her lashes. “I’d like that.”
“Great.” Matt beamed.
Nessie pulled the hat from his head. “But only if you promise never to wear this again. Or these.” She reached up to take the sunglasses too, and they snagged on his ear.
Matt’s hand shot out to help her, and for one brief moment, they were holding hands like they used to. He wanted to hang on to it, to pull her into his arms and make love to her right there and then on the beach, the way it should have been the first time, but he saw the nervousness in her eyes and let her hand fall. It wasn’t time.

Blog Takeover – Sarah Hegger (Author of Sweet Bea)
Today I’m delighted to introduce a fellow author and good friend of mine, Sarah Hegger. The author of The Bride Gift , she is here to tell us about her latest release, Sweet Bea .
So without further ado, let me hand over to Sarah…
Tripping with my Gals.
Hi Carrie, thanks for letting me come over and share the release of my new medieval, Sweet Bea , with you.
The pairing of a good girl with a wicked boy is nothing new in the romance genre and Sweet Bea is my version of that. Beatrice, aka Sweet Bea , is huge hearted, impulsive, a touch feisty and at times, totally clueless.
It got me thinking about what I like in a heroine. Here are some of my favorites, and I don’t want to number them because I honestly can’t decide who I liked best.
Venetia, from the novel of the same name, by Georgette Heyer. Sweet, innocent Venetia stumbles across the rake next door and sends him into a conflict of conscience.
Erin Coffey from After Hours by Cara Mckenna. A ‘scrappy’ chic with a steel spine and an overdeveloped sense of responsibility who takes on the big, bad, mean and moody, Kelly.
Although she’s not the heroine, I just love Nix, or ‘Nucking Futs Nix’, the soothsayer and Valkyrie oracle from Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series. Nix is vague, totally mysterious and somewhat certifiable, she arrives in the ‘nix’ of time and puts the world to rights.
Image from Shadow-Awakened
I would read Kristan Higgans’ shopping list and enjoy it, but her stand out heroine for me is Maggie from Catch of the Day. Maggie is warm, giving, loving and clueless when it comes to men. She tumbles across the hero, the taciturn Malone, whilst secretly pining for her Catholic priest.
Not a romantic heroine, but Mara of the Acoma from the Empire Trilogy by Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurts is tiny, tough, smart as a whip and relentless.
Reading through these women, it made me realize that these are all women I’d want to be friends with, woman I identify with and want to take with me through a book journey – sort of LITERARY GIRL’S ROAD TRIP.
So, let me tell you about my girl, Sweet Bea.
Is anything sweeter than revenge?
In a family of remarkable people, ordinary Beatrice strives to prove herself worthy. When her family is threatened with losing everything, she rushes to London to save them. Unfortunately, she chooses as her savior the very man who will see her family brought low.
Garrett has sworn vengeance on Sir Arthur of Anglesea for destroying his life when he was a boy and forcing his mother into prostitution for them to survive. He has chosen as his instrument Sir Arthur’s youngest daughter, Beatrice.
Can Beatrice’s goodness teach Garrett that love, not vengeance, is the greatest reward of all?
There’s a longer excerpt on my Website .
If this sounds like your thing, you can pick up a copy at AMAZON or BARNES & NOBLE or pop along to KENSINGTON PUBLISHING for your favorite format.
And as we’re going on a road trip, I should tell you a bit about me.
Born British and raised in South Africa, Sarah Hegger suffers from an incurable case of wanderlust. Her match? A hot Canadian engineer, whose marriage proposal she accepted six short weeks after they first met. Together they’ve made homes in seven different cities across three different continents (and back again once or twice). If only it made her multilingual, but the best she can manage is idiosyncratic English, fluent Afrikaans, conversant Russian, pigeon Portuguese, even worse Zulu and enough French to get herself into trouble.
Mimicking her globe trotting adventures, Sarah’s career path began as a gainfully employed actress, drifted into public relations, settled a moment in advertising, and eventually took root in the fertile soil of her first love, writing. She also moonlights as a wife and mother.
She currently lives in Draper, Utah, with her teenage daughters, two Golden Retrievers and aforementioned husband. Part footloose buccaneer, part quixotic observer of life, Sarah’s restless heart is most content when reading or writing books.
She loves to hear from readers and you can find her at any of the places below.

Tell me about some of your favorite book heroines, I’d love to hear who you would take on your road trip.

Romance Weekly #LoveChatWrite #LoveWriteChat – 9th September
Do you like to read romance novels? Wouldn’t you like to know more about your favorite authors? Well you came to the right place! Join the writers of Romance Weekly as we go behind the scenes of our books and tell all….. About our writing of course! Every week we’ll answer questions and after you’ve enjoyed the blog on this site we’ll direct you to another. So come back often for a thrilling ride! Tell your friends and feel free to ask us questions in the comment box.
If you’ve arrived from Sarah Hegger’s blog, hi and thanks for clicking! This week’s questions are brought to you by Beth Carter, whose amazing new book Thursdays At Coconuts is currently selling up a storm!
1. What’s your favorite aspect of novel writing? Dialogue? Setting? Conflict?Narration? Explain?
It’s really hard to break down the writing process enough to single out what I enjoy the most. I know what I enjoy the least (editing, anybody?), but as for what I really like doing–well I’d say everything. I enjoy the process of getting down on paper (or on a laptop) the visions and stories I have in my head. I’ve always lived a secret life in my mind, making up tales and daydreaming, and being able to share this with others is amazing.
2. How do you choose the setting for your plot? Are they always similar settings or does it vary? (i.e., small town, big city, castle, etc.)?
My settings always come from my characters. London features in a lot of my stories because it’s where I grew up. I also try to add in some of the US, as I also lived there for a few years. I tend to gravitate toward cities rather than the countryside for my settings, although I think this will change in the future. The book I’m planning to write some time next year will be set by the sea, in a small village where emotions bubble deep under the surface.
3. I’m a big six-word memoir fan. (Hemingway even wrote one.) Describe your writing day using just six words.?

Review – Jealousy by S.L. Scott

We shared a love that regulated every heartbeat and every breath we took. It was all encompassing. I thought our love could withstand time and anything thrown our way.
I was wrong. So wrong.
I used to be happy. I used to be Juliette Weston when Dylan Somers filled my life with promises of love and a happy ever after. But when he took my heart and broke it into a million pieces, I became someone else entirely. In one afternoon, I lost my soul mate. I lost everything I knew myself to be.
Three years later, the man who destroyed me is back.
To assuage his guilt? To finish the job? It doesn’t matter… I won’t let him this time. I’m stronger. I’ve moved on. He won’t affect me.
This is a story of love and betrayal. Pain and loss. Happiness and fate. It’s about finding your true destiny.
This is our story.

Jealousy tells the story of Jules, a girl who’s been mourning the end of a relationship with the love of her life for the past three years. The second in the ‘From the Inside Out’ series (the first, Scorned, was fabulous), Jealousy documents her deepening relationship with Austin, the sexy businessman who makes a play for Jules. At the same time though, the reappearance of Dylan (the lost love of her life) causes Jules to second guess herself. And she finds herself trying to work out what it is she really wants from these men.
It’s an angsty ride, but told with all the wit and sophistication I’ve come to expect from S.L. Scott. And though Jules is vulnerable, she’s also strong and feisty, a girl who has had to work hard to pull herself out of the pit of her misery and carve out a place in life. As for the two heroes – Dylan and Austin–I have to say I love them both. While some readers are ‘Team Austin’ or ‘Team Dylan’ I kind of want her to be with both of them. Hint – S.L. Scott, feel free to use that idea for a fifth book in the series ;)
The next two parts in the series – Dylan and Austin are due to be released on September 29th, and allow you to opt for a Dylan or Austin ending. I absolutely love the concept of this story. It’s like a Choose Your Own Adventure for adults, with the opportunity to decide which way the heroine should turn. I’m still not sure which man I want her to stick with, so I’ll be buying both of them and see which ending makes me the happiest.
The writing’s great, the story is excellent and most of all it’s a killer concept. Now I’m counting down the days until the next books are released!
1 Woman 2 Endings – You Choose – Team Dylan or Team Austin.
Sept 29 read one or both to see how it all plays out.

Book Tour – Branded, A Bad Boy’s Anthology
Branded
A Bad Boys Anthology
By
B.L.Wilde
Jeanne McDonald
Jo Matthews
Mary Elizabeth
Sarah Elizabeth

Cover Design: Cover It
Designs
Genre:
Romance/Suspense

Branded is a collection of 5 stories, by authors who are already making a splash in the publishing world. Each story is centered around a boy who walks on the wrong side of the law, for reasons that we discover in the body of the text. Robberies, car jacking, kidnapping and stealing, all these things and more. Yet in spite of their crimes, we learn that these are boys with heart, boys who love hard and protect what’s theirs, even if doing so endangers their own lives.
A word of warning, not all of these stories end happily, or at least not in the conventional / romantic sense of the word. Emotionally stirring, I found myself wiping a tear or two away in places, and with my heart in my mouth during moments of suspense.
In spite of each story being a stand alone novella, the plots and characters were complex and rounded, enough to hold my attention and keep me turning the pages. I became invested in their stories, finding myself rooting for them in spite of their felonies, and keeping my fingers crossed that everything turned out well in the end.
I enjoyed this anthology very much. Thanks to the authors for letting me have an advanced copy for review.
Summary:
B.L. Wilde, Jeanne McDonald, Jo Matthews, Mary Elizabeth, and Sarah Elizabeth give us five good reasons why good girls love bad boys. The men of Branded are sexy, adventurous, and troubled deep into their souls. There may be no redeeming them, but at the risk of losing everything, these good girls must decide if loving their bad boy is indeed worth the cost.

Low By Mary Elizabeth

A Little Taste of Coming Down…

Coming: September 24, 2014

Twenty-eight-year-old Beth Lawrence finally has her life back on track. A job she loves, a wealthy husband and a beautiful home are a far cry from the tragedy that struck when she was nineteen. But now that her past seems firmly behind her, an old flame walks back into her life. Bringing back painful memories of a time she’s worked hard to forget, reviving a passion she tried to bury years before.
Niall Joseph is an up-and-coming artist, recently returned from success in America. Volunteering to teach in an inner-city drug clinic, the last person he expects to see is the girl who broke his heart nine years earlier. Working closely together allows their old wounds to heal, forging a deeper connection between them. One that slowly starts to burn.
As she becomes tangled up with a neglected child and her drug-addict mother, Beth finds herself drawn to Niall. But neither of them can anticipate how hard it is to tread the thin line between friendship and desire.

“What’s your name?”
“Beth.”
“Are you a student here?”
His question makes me roll my eyes. I’ve been following him and his friends around like a devoted puppy for the best part of my first year. Not that he’s ever noticed. He’s always too busy. Painting. Smoking. Looking beautiful. He’s good at all these things. I know, I’ve studied him like he’s my favourite subject.
“Art History,” I say.
“One of the thinkers.” He gives me a smile. It’s wicked and dirty and makes me want to lick his lips. “Do you paint?”
“No.”
“Shame. Do you model?”
I blush at this one. “No.”
“You should. Come and model for me. I want to paint you.” His words slur but his voice is still seductive and lyrical. Somewhere, far beneath my high, I know he’s spinning me a line.
I bite, nonetheless.
“I’m not pretty enough.”
“Yes you are.”
“Or interesting enough.”
He pulls me closer, his erection digging into my hip. “Yes you are.”
My heart starts to hammer against my chest. This is Niall Joseph holding me. I made Niall Joseph get hard. I don’t think about the drugs or the rain or the fact he’s ignored me all year. I’m too worked up for that.
“I want to kiss you.” He murmurs it softly. Then he presses his lips to my forehead. My skin feels like it’s burning. Hot and fevered. This time, the rain does nothing to cool it down.
“Okay.” I’m almost breathless. He drags his mouth down to my jaw, peppering my skin with kisses.
“You fucking taste like rain, too.”

Romance Weekly #LoveChatWrite #LoveWriteChat – 2nd September
Do you like to read romance novels? Wouldn’t you like to know more about your favorite authors? Well you came to the right place! Join the writers of Romance Weekly as we go behind the scenes of our books and tell all….. About our writing of course! Every week we’ll answer questions and after you’ve enjoyed the blog on this site we’ll direct you to another. So come back often for a thrilling ride! Tell your friends and feel free to ask us questions in the comment box.
If you’ve arrived from Mischka Jenkins’ blog, hi and thanks for clicking! This week’s questions are brought to you by Ronnie Allen.
1. When do you decide that you’ve done enough editing and changes would now be making it different, not better?
This is a tricky one. Whenever I read something I’ve written, it’s always with a critical eye. I’m never truly happy with the outcome, there’s always something I think I could improve on. But I also believe that over editing can kill the heart of a story–there has to be a happy medium. So nowadays I do three main edits, followed by two proofs. After that, I leave it for the readers to decide if I’ve done enough.
2. When and how do you accept advice by rejection letters and critique partners?
Honest answer? All the time. I’m so aware how little distance I have from my own writing, so I rely on my critique partners and beta readers to give me an honest run down of how they see the story. I’ve made a lot of changes based on feedback from both them and editors, and I truly believe it makes for a better story. I love my cps and beta readers so much, and I owe them a lot. I want to take them all away to a desert island and pamper them in thanks!
3. When you’re not writing how do you spend your day?
If I’m not writing, I’m either editing, marketing, or doing something completely unrelated. I do have a job, plus a family that keeps me busy. I’m all too aware I neglect the house and the laundry in favour of my fictional characters, but I try not to neglect my kids! So if I’m not writing you might find me neck-deep in homework assignments, or driving them to soccer practice or scout meetings. And very, very occasionally, I also fit in a date night with my gorgeous husband.
Thank you to Ronnie for these questions, they were a lot of fun to answer. And now to read more Romance Weekly Blog Hop go to http://jrrichardsonfics.wordpress.com/ and read the fabulous Jo Richardson’s answers.
